Player Outlook
If you're looking for an early-season DST to stream, consider the Seahawks. Their first game of the year is home against the Broncos and rookie QB Bo Nix. Then their second game is against the Patriots, an offense that shouldn't scare too many people. That should set up nicely for the defense to have a feisty start. After that they take on the Dolphins and Lions, two offenses that can put up points, so you might be done with the Seahawks by then. But it's worth noting that this unit made two key additions: rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy and head coach/defensive guru Mike Macdonald. The latter could have a sizable impact on how the Seahawks operate since he comes from the Harbaugh coaching tree and may run more man coverage than the Hawks have had in the past.

  • Ro Torrence: Time up in Seattle

The Seahawks waived Torrence on Monday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports. Torrence signed with the Seahawks shortly after going unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he'll now need to search for an opportunity elsewhere in the league. The 6-foot-3 corner spent OTAs and mandatory minicamp in Seattle.

  • Seahawks' Mike Morris: Past shoulder injury

Morris (shoulder) was spotted working out during Wednesday's mandatory minicamp session, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. Morris sustained a season-ending shoulder injury early in Seattle's 2023 campaign, but with his participation in the Seahawks' minicamp, it seems he's past the issue. The 2023 fifth-round pick out of Michigan tallied three total tackles in his one appearance last season, and he's expected to compete for another depth role on the Seahawks' defensive line as the offseason progresses.

  • Seahawks' Jarran Reed: Past knee issue

Reed (knee) was spotted working out during Wednesday's mandatory minicamp session, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. The eight-year veteran missed the Seahawks' 2023 season finale due to a knee issue, but it now seems as if he's moved past his injury. Reed produced at a high level in the 16 games he appeared in last season, recording 54 total tackles, including 7.0 sacks, while also defending two passes. Now that Reed is back at full health, he's expected to remain one of Seattle's top interior defensive linemen in 2024.

  • Seahawks' Buddha Jones: Back on IR

Jones (undisclosed) reverted to Seattle's injured reserve list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. After being waived by the Seahawks with an injury designation just two days ago, Jones will stick around in the organization. The nature and severity of Jones' injury are still unknown, but the undrafted rookie out of Troy will need to reach an injury settlement with Seattle in order to have a chance to suit up this season.

  • Buddha Jones: Waived by Seattle

Jones (undisclosed) was waived as injured by the Seahawks on Monday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. In a corresponding move, Seattle signed quarterback PJ Walker. Jones, a defensive tackle, signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in May. He played his college ball at Troy and recorded 29 tackles in 14 games in 2023.

  • Seahawks' Jerome Baker: Will miss rest of OTAs

Coach Mike Macdonald said Thursday that Baker (wrist) won't be back as a full participant during practice until training camp, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports. Baker is apparently still dealing with the wrist injury he picked up in Week 18 last season. When he's healthy, he profiles as a near every-down starter at linebacker, but in the meantime, rookie fourth-rounder Tyrice Knight could get some reps with the first team.

  • Seahawks' Uchenna Nwosu: Taking part in OTAs

Nwosu (pectoral) participated in OTAs Wednesday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. Nwosu suffered a torn pec in Week 7 and missed the remainder of the season. He's already stated he expects to be a full participant for the start of training camp, and the veteran appears to be on track in his recovery. Nwosu tallied a career-best 9.5 sacks in 2022 and inked a three-year, $45 million extension last summer. He'll be counted on to help key Seattle's pass rush in his third season with the team in 2024.

  • Seahawks' Mike Jackson: Agrees to contract restructure

Jackson restructured his contract with the Seahawks on Monday to clear roughly $1.89 million in cap space, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. Jackson signed a restricted free agent tender with Seattle to re-up with the team in early April, but he now has a league-minimum base salary of $1.055 million in exchange for a new signing bonus of $167,500. A 2019 fifth-rounder, Jackson played a depth role at cornerback and contributed regularly on special teams across 17 games last season. He lacks a clear path to fantasy relevance in IDP formats, barring a player ahead of him on the depth chart missing time.

  • Seahawks' D.J. James: Seattle ends tumble in Round 6

The Seahawks selected James in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 192nd overall. By selecting James, the Seahawks reunite him with fellow corner and former Auburn teammate Nehemiah Pritchett, whom Seattle selected in the fifth round. Whereas Pritchett is a typical Seattle-style boundary corner (taller, longer arms, fast), James is very much not a typical Seattle corner. That's because James is rail-thin by cornerback standards (6-feet, 175 pounds) and has short arms (31 inches), two details that make James a poor fit for the press coverage Seattle is known for. James was an effective starter for Auburn and has plenty of speed to work with (4.42-second 40-yard dash), and apparently that was enough for Seattle, especially so late in the draft.

  • Seahawks' Tyrice Knight: Catches on with Seattle

The Seahawks selected Knight in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 118th overall. Knight is known for his motor and drive, which is illustrated by his rise from beginning his collegiate career at a community college to becoming one of the most prolific tacklers in the FBS. Over his final three years at UTEP, he posted 337 total tackles -- 31 of which went for a loss. Knight is limited mostly to a run-stuffing role, but he could find his way to the field quickly on early downs and special teams.

  • Seahawks' Uchenna Nwosu: Expects to be ready for camp

Nwosu (pectoral) indicated Wednesday that he "absolutely" expects to be ready for the start of training camp, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. Nwosu is coming off a season-ending torn pectoral that he suffered this past October, but the edge rusher appears to be progressing well -- barring any setbacks, the 27-year-old is poised to reclaim his key role in the Seahawks defense this coming season. Prior to his injury, Nwosu -- who racked up a career high 9.5 sacks in 2022 -- recorded 16 tackles and 2.0 sacks in six regular-season games last year.

  • LaTrell Bumphus: Let go by Seattle

Bumphus (undisclosed) was waived without an injury designation by the Seahawks on Monday. Bumphus was waived with an undisclosed injury by Seattle last June before reverting to the team's injured reserve. The 24-year-old then spent the entirety of the 2023 campaign on IR. While the nature of his injury was never disclosed, Bumphus will now be free to sign elsewhere ahead of the 2024 season.

  • Seahawks' Joshua Onujiogu: Returning to Seattle

The Seahawks re-signed Onujiogu (elbow) to an exclusive rights contract Monday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports. Onujiogu missed the entire 2023 campaign due to a tendon issue in his elbow. He suited up for one game as an undrafted rookie in 2022. Now presumably back to full health, Onujiogu gets a chance to further his development with Seattle over the offseason, and to hopefully compete for a depth roster spot.

  • Seahawks' Mike Jackson: Inks RFA tender

Jackson signed his contract with the Seahawks as a restricted free agent Monday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports. Jackson started all 17 regular-season games for Seattle in 2022, though he logged just four starts in 2023 (while recording 34 tackles) despite the same amount of appearances. The 2019 fifth-rounder figures to reprise a key defensive role at cornerback with the Seahawks during the 2024 campaign.

  • Seahawks' Jerrick Reed: Uncertain for Week 1

Reed (knee) has made progress in his rehab from a torn ACL but isn't a sure thing for Week 1 of the 2024 season, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. Reed tore his ACL after suiting up for 10 games last season, tallying 11 total tackles. The 2023 sixth-round pick played almost entirely on special teams as a rookie, and he will fill a similar role when healthy. It sounds like Reed's recovery could linger into the 2024 regular season.

  • Seahawks' Uchenna Nwosu: On track for Week 1

Nwosu (pectoral) is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. Nwosu missed all but the first six games of the 2023 campaign due to a torn pectoral, and while it's unclear whether he'll be ready for the start of training camp, there seem to be no concerns about his Week 1 availability. When healthy, Nwosu's presence should provide Seattle's pass rush with a boost it sorely missed last year, as the 27-year-old recorded 9.5 sacks over 17 games in 2022.

  • Texans' Mario Edwards: Signing with Houston

Edwards is in line to sign a one-year contract with the Texans, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. In 15 regular-season games with the Seahawks in 2023, Edwards recorded 21 tackles and two sacks. Per Wilson, the 30-year-old is viewed as a strong fit in the Texans' 4-3 defensive scheme, with Edwards' ability to play all over the defensive line an asset to a unit that also currently includes Danielle Hunter, Will Anderson, Denico Autry, Khalil Davis, Tim Settle and Folorunso Fatukasi.

  • Mario Edwards: Visits Houston

Edwards (knee) had a visit with the Texans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Edwards missed the final game of the 2023 season due to a knee injury. His visit in Houston indicates he has put that injury behind him. The journeyman recorded 21 tackles (15 solo), one pass defensed and one forced fumble across 15 games for Seattle last season. He is now looking for a new opportunity.

  • Seahawks' Tyrel Dodson: Finds new home in Seattle

The Seahawks agreed to terms on a contract with Dodson on Thursday, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports. Dodson will turn 26 years old in June and is coming off the best season of his four-year career last season in Buffalo, finishing with 74 tackles (57 solo), 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery across 17 regular-season games, including 10 starts. Dodson took on a bigger role following Matt Milano's season-ending leg injury and will now go to Seattle to help offset the departures of Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks.

  • Browns' Devin Bush: Coming to Cleveland

The Browns signed Bush to a one-year deal Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The 2019 first-round pick spent the first four years of his career with the Steelers and will be coming back to the AFC North after signing with Cleveland on Thursday. Bush played 10 or fewer defensive snaps in seven of his 13 games last season for the Seahawks, but he still recorded 37 total tackles, including five tackles for loss. The Michigan product will likely have the chance to compete for a starting spot in the Browns' linebacker corps this offseason.
