  • Broncos' Michael Burton: Re-ups with Denver

The Broncos re-signed Burton on Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.

Burton suited up for all 17 regular-season games with Denver in 2024, mostly working in a special-teams role while contributing occasionally as a blocker on offense. He totaled seven carries for eight yards and a touchdown on the year, while also securing all 10 of his targets for 65 yards and an additional score. He'll spend the offseason competing to again secure the team's top fullback spot.

  • Broncos' Michael Burton: Career-high 10 catches in 2024

Burton played in all 17 regular-season games in 2024 and finished with seven carries for eight yards and a touchdown while catching 10 passes on as many targets for 65 yards and a score.

Burton didn't make the Broncos' 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but he eventually was signed to the active roster in mid-September after initially staying on the practice squad. He mostly served in a special-teams role and didn't play more than 13 offensive snaps in all but one regular-season game (Week 18 against the Chiefs; 24 snaps on offense). On offense, he mostly was used as an extra blocker in the running game, though he did manage to register a career-high 10 catches, three of which came Week 16 against the Chargers when he also caught a one-yard touchdown pass from Bo Nix. Burton will explore his options during the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

  • Broncos' Michael Burton: Finds end zone in loss

Burton caught all three of his targets for 19 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 34-27 loss to the Chargers.

Burton's touchdown was his first score through the air this season and second trip to the end zone overall in 2024. The veteran fullback played just 10 of the Broncos' 64 offensive snaps Thursday, playing in his usual part-time role in Denver's offense. Despite the score in Week 16, Burton remains far off the fantasy radar due to his extremely limited usage. Next up for the Broncos is a matchup against the Bengals in Week 17.

Burton was released by the Broncos on Friday.

Burton had appeared in all eight of the Broncos' games in 2024, catching all five of his targets for 40 yards. The fullback has also played 68 percent of the team's special-teams snaps this season. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Burton return to Denver in the near future.

  • Michael Burton: Back with Broncos

Burton signed with the Broncos' practice squad Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.

Burton appeared in all 17 regular-season games for Denver last season, operating as the team's fullback and a regular on special teams. However, he wasn't able to make the final cut this year, his 10th in the NFL. The Rutgers product likely has a good chance of ultimately finding his way to the 53-man roster this season.

  • Broncos' Michael Burton: Gets two touches in Week 14

Burton played 14 of the Broncos' 67 snaps on offense and carried once for two yards and hauled in his lone target for a one-yard gain in Sunday's 24-7 win over the Chargers.

Burton has been active for all 13 of the Broncos' games to date, but Sunday's contest marked just the second time that he's logged more than one touch on offense. The 14 snaps were also one shy of a season high, and Burton will likely continue to have a limited role in a Denver offense that doesn't make frequent use of a fullback.

  • Broncos' Michael Burton: Stuck in blocking role

Burton went without a carry or target while logging 12 of the Broncos' 75 snaps on offense in Monday's 24-22 win over the Bills.

Like most fullbacks around the league, Burton rarely contributes as a ball carrier or pass catcher and primarily operates as a lead blocker when he's on the field. Despite being active for all nine of the Broncos' contests to date, Burton has just four carries (for three yards) and one reception (for three yards) to his name.

  • Broncos' Michael Burton: Lands in Denver

Burton is set to sign a one-year deal with the Broncos, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Burton will reunite with head coach Sean Payton, whom he played for in New Orleans in 2020. As a member of the Chiefs during the 2022 campaign, the veteran fullback handled five carries for seven yards and caught two of three targets for 11 yards. Burton likely won't see enough touches on offense to be a viable fantasy option in 2023.
