The Lakers waived Wood (knee) on Tuesday, NBA reporter Chris Haynes reports. The big man was waived in order to make room for veteran center Alex Len, who signed with the club on Tuesday. Wood didn't appear in a single game for the Lakers during the 2024-25 campaign while recovering from left knee surgery that he underwent in September. The 29-year-old could latch on with a club looking for depth in the frontcourt, though his health is a glaring issue that could seemingly hold him back.... See More ... See Less

Lakers' Christian Wood: Remains out Thursday
Wood (knee) is listed as out for Thursday's game against the Warriors. Wood has yet to play this season while recovering from the left knee surgery he underwent in September. On Wednesday, head coach JJ Redick told Daniel Starkand of LakersNation.com that he had no formal update on the status of Wood, who appears safe to rule out through the All-Star break. With the Lakers adding Mark Williams at the trade deadline to supplement a frontcourt mix that already includes Jarred Vanderbilt, Jaxson Hayes and Dorian Finney-Smith, Wood will likely find himself out of the rotation once he returns to full health.... Lakers' Christian Wood: Out again, return date uncertain
Wood (knee) will not play Tuesday against the 76ers, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports. Wood has yet to play this season, and the Lakers haven't provided many updates on his status lately. Head coach JJ Redick said Dec. 30 that Wood had been cleared to participate in individual work, but just over two weeks later, Redick told Daniel Starkand of LakersNation.com that he had no updates on the status of Wood. The veteran big man might have suffered a setback, but in any case, he looks to be week-to-week more so than day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Won't make season debut Monday
Wood (knee) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Hornets, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports. Wood has yet to make his season debut while recovering from an offseason surgery on his left knee. There is no clear timetable for his return, though his next chance to debut will come Tuesday against Philadelphia.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Return not imminent
Lakers head coach JJ Redick said Monday that he had no update on the status of Wood, who has been sidelined all season while recovering from the left knee surgery he underwent in September, Daniel Starkand of LakersNation.com reports. Back on Dec. 30, Redick told Starkand that Wood was able to take part in some individual work following the Lakers' practice session, but the lack of a concrete update on the big man's status in the two weeks since then suggest that Wood has either plateaued in his recovery or suffered a setback. Whatever the case, Wood seems further from a return than fellow big man Jarred Vanderbilt (foot), whom Redick said Monday is "close" to playing, but won't be an option for any of the team's games this week, per Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet. Assuming Vanderbilt ends up beating him back to the court for his season debut, Wood may not be a serious candidate to enter the rotation even once he's made a full recovery from knee surgery.... Lakers' Christian Wood: Out again Monday
Wood (knee) is out for Monday's game against the Spurs, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. Wood is yet to make his season debut due to left knee surgery he underwent over the offseason. His next chance to suit up comes Wednesday against the Heat.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Another absence coming
Wood (knee) is out for Saturday's game against the Spurs, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports. Wood has yet to suit up for the Lakers this season. His next chance to feature will come in the rematch against the Spurs on Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Remains on the shelf
Wood (knee) won't play in Thursday's game against the Hornets, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports. Wood is still in recovery mode following offseason surgery on his left knee, and it remains unclear how far along he is in his rehab at this point. The veteran big man can be tentatively deemed doubtful for game action until the Lakers provide another update on Wood's health, so he would appear unlikely to return for Saturday's tilt with the Spurs. Jaxson Hayes remains Los Angeles' top backup at center behind Anthony Davis going forward.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Still not ready to play
Wood (knee) remains out for Tuesday's game versus the Mavericks, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports. Wood is still not ready to make his regular-season debut following offseason knee surgery. The veteran big man is inching closer to returning, but he can be labeled doubtful for game action, including for Thursday's game against the Hornets, until Los Angeles provides another update on Wood's status.... Lakers' Christian Wood: Remains out Sunday
Wood (knee) is out for Sunday's game versus Houston, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports. Wood is still working his way back from knee surgery, but he remains without a firm target date for his return. His next chance to play is Tuesday versus Dallas.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Ruled out Friday
Wood (knee) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Hawks. Wood's season debut won't happen Friday against the visiting Hawks. The veteran big man continues to work his way back from knee surgery, and in the meantime, the Lakers will continue to lean on Cam Reddish, Dorian Finney-Smith and Rui Hachimura behind LeBron James in the frontcourt.... Lakers' Christian Wood: Resuming on-court workouts
Lakers head coach JJ Redick said Tuesday that Wood (knee) has been cleared to resume on-court workouts, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports. After getting re-evaluated at some point last week, Wood received the green light to start ramping back up again, but his season debut doesn't look to be imminent just yet. Wood will spend the next few days working out with staff members in Los Angeles while the Lakers play in Sacramento on Thursday and Saturday, and he could then become integrated in practices once the team returns home. The journeyman center is working his way back from arthroscopic left knee surgery, which he underwent in early September.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Out at least four more weeks
Lakers head coach JJ Redick said Tuesday that Wood (knee) has experienced soreness in his surgically repaired left knee and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports. Wood was nearing his re-evaluation date following an arthroscopic procedure in early September, but the big man isn't close to returning to game action. Even when healthy, Wood will have an uphill battle for playing time in the Lakers' crowded frontcourt, but he brings a unique skill set to the table.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Undergoes knee procedure
Wood underwent a successful arthroscopic surgical procedure on his left knee Monday, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports. The forward will be re-evaluated in eight weeks, meaning he will miss the start of the 2024-25 season. This is a tough blow for Wood, as it will set him back with his offseason training. Wood exercised his $3.04 million player option in May and was already facing an uphill battle for playing time in the Lakers' crowded frontcourt, and this certainly won't help.... See More ... Lakers' Christian Wood: Exercises player option
Wood exercised his $3 million player option for the 2024-25 season Tuesday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports. Wood was a sporadic part of the rotation in Los Angeles this season, appearing in 50 games with averages of 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 17.4 minutes. There could potentially be a lot of changes for the Lakers this offseason depending on whether or not LeBron James picks up his player option, so it's difficult to project Wood's role for next season at the moment.... Lakers' Christian Wood: Will play Saturday
Wood (knee) will be available for Game 4 against the Nuggets on Saturday, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. Wood will finally return after a prolonged absence, as he hasn't stepped on the court since Feb. 14. He's expected to have a role off the bench and will compete for frontcourt minutes with Jaxson Hayes, though by all accounts, his role will be minimal Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Upgraded to questionable
Wood (knee) has been upgraded to questionable for Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs against Denver, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports. Wood has been sidelined since Feb. 14, but he's been trending towards a return for a while. It sounds like if he makes it through the shootaround without any setbacks, he could get the green light to return with Los Angeles' season on the line.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Ruled out for Game 3
Wood (knee) has been ruled out for Game 3 against the Nuggets on Thursday, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports. Wood has been ramping up his workload and was hopeful that he would be able to get back to the court for Game 3, but the medical staff will hold him out for at least one more game. His next chance to play will come Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Eyeing Game 3 return
Wood (knee) is hopeful to be cleared to play for the Lakers' Game 3 matchup with the Nuggets on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Wood hasn't played since Feb. 14 while rehabbing from an arthroscopic knee procedure, so even if he's available for Game 3, the reserve big man may be limited to a minor role or kept out of the rotation entirely. Across 50 regular-season appearances (one start), Wood averaged 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game.... See More ... See Less -
Lakers' Christian Wood: Sidelined for Game 1
Wood (knee) won't play in Saturday's Game 1 against the Nuggets, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. Wood hasn't taken the court since an arthroscopic knee procedure in mid-March, so his absence shouldn't impact Los Angeles' rotation. It remains unclear if he'll get the green light to return at some point during the postseason.... See More ... See Less
