  • Marlins' Shaun Anderson: Optioned to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Anderson to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday. Anderson was called upon to start in place of Jesus Luzardo (back) on Saturday, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits over just 3.1 innings in a loss to the Mariners. He'll now head back to Jacksonville following his rough outing, though it's possible the 29-year-old righty makes another start in the near future with the Miami rotation having been hit hard by injuries.

  • Marlins' Shaun Anderson: Roughed up by Mariners

Anderson (0-2) took the loss against Seattle on Saturday, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits and no walks while striking out three batters over 3.1 innings. Anderson fell behind 2-0 after one inning but was able to bounce back with a pair of scoreless frames. Things really fell apart for him in the fourth, as the Mariners opened the inning with four straight hits and chased Anderson with one out in the frame. The right-hander got the start Saturday due to Jesus Luzardo landing on the injured list with a back injury, but it's uncertain whether he'll be called upon to be Luzardo's replacement for additional turns through the rotation. Anderson hasn't really earned that role given his 11.42 ERA and 2.77 WHIP through 8.2 innings on the season.

  • Marlins' Shaun Anderson: Called up ahead of Saturday's start

The Marlins recalled Anderson from Triple-A Jacksonville ahead of his start Saturday against the Mariners. He'll be joining the rotation as a replacement for Jesus Luzardo (back), who was initially slated to start Saturday before being scratched and placed on the 15-day injured list. Luzardo is set to miss at least two turns through the rotation, but Anderson may need to pitch effectively Saturday to earn himself any starts beyond that. Since being acquired from the Rangers on May 30, the 29-year-old righty has previously made one spot start for Miami, giving up seven runs (four earned) on nine hits in two innings in a June 14 loss to the Nationals.

  • Marlins' Shaun Anderson: Set to start Saturday

Anderson will be called up from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Saturday's game against the Mariners, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Anderson made his first big-league start of the season June 14 and gave up four earned runs across only two innings. The 29-year-old righty has a 2.51 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 31:4 K:BB through 28.2 Triple-A innings over six starts this season, but he hasn't worked more than four innings in an outing at any level since joining the Marlins' organization at the end of May. He'll fill the rotation spot of Jesus Luzardo (back).

  • Marlins' Shaun Anderson: Sent back to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Anderson to Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday. Miami sent Anderson back to Triple-A just one day after he was called up from Jacksonville to make a spot start in the series opener versus the Nationals. The 29-year-old lasted just two innings in the Marlins' 8-1 loss, giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits. The Marlins will still need to fill the vacant No. 5 spot in their rotation Wednesday versus the Cardinals, but the team called up Kent Emanuel from Triple-A to provide a fresh arm out of the bullpen in the meantime.

  • Marlins' Shaun Anderson: Roughed up in team debut

Anderson (0-1) took the loss Friday against the Nationals, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in two innings. He struck out one. Anderson held the Nats scoreless through his first two innings before unraveling in the third, where he allowed seven straight hits without recording an out. While it certainly wasn't an inspiring Miami debut for Anderson, the 29-year-old right-hander could get another shot in the rotation with Edward Cabrera (shoulder), Ryan Weathers (finger) and Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) all on the IL.

  • Marlins' Shaun Anderson: Recalled to start Friday

The Marlins recalled Anderson from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday. Anderson will start Friday's game against the Nationals. The Blue Jays optioned Anderson to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday. • Blue Jays' Shaun Anderson: Sent packing from big-league camp

The Blue Jays reassigned Anderson to minor-league camp Tuesday, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports. Anderson had been attending camp as a non-roster invitee, after the Blue Jays claimed him off waivers in November before outrighting him off the 40-man roster less than two weeks later. The 27-year-old righty had been building up his pitch count during spring training, as he made two of his four Grapefruit League appearances as a starter before being cut. Anderson's usage could signal that Toronto envisions him filling a spot in the rotation at Triple-A Buffalo.

  • Blue Jays' Shaun Anderson: Impressing at minor-league camp

Anderson has been impressing at minor-league camp early in spring training, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Anderson made appearances with the Padres, Twins and Orioles in 2021 and posted an 8.49 ERA and 2.06 WHIP in 23.1 innings across 16 relief appearances. He was claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays in mid-November before being outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo later in the month. Even if the right-hander joins the Blue Jays' major-league bullpen at some point this year, he's unlikely to pitch in many high-leverage situations.
