Player Outlook
There were a lot of other factors at play, many of them more attention-grabbing, but Dean Kremer's second-half surge last year certainly aided the Orioles in their surprise push to the American League East title. He had a 5.04 ERA as of the end of June, but went on to register a 3.09 ERA with 75 strikeouts over his final 81.2 regular-season innings, and the O's went 13-2 across his final 15 starts. Kremer began utilizing his cutter more often, and in doing so saw a spike in groundballs along with less and less hard contact from opposing hitters. The overall numbers don't jump off the page -- Kremer owns a career 4.35 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 7.6 K/9 in 370.1 major-league innings -- but that should only serve to make him a value pick in fantasy drafts this spring. Just keep those cutters coming.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Struggles again in rehab start

Kremer (triceps) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in his third rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. He struck out five batters. Kremer got his pitch count up to 75 and looks ready to return from the 15-day injured list from a workload standpoint, but it's unclear if Baltimore is keen on slotting him back into the rotation while he's largely struggled during the minor-league assignment. The right-hander has posted an 11.42 ERA and 9:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings across his three starts. He's been out since late May with a right triceps strain.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Another rehab start Thursday

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that Kremer (tricep) will make another rehab start Thursday at Triple-A Norfolk, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Kremer struggled in his second rehab outing this past Saturday with Norfolk, allowing five runs while recording just two outs. He got his pitch count to 59 in his first rehab start but was pulled from the second outing after throwing just 39 pitches due to a stressful first inning. It's possible Kremer will be ready to return from the 15-day injured list next week, though that decision depends on how he looks Thursday and how much he can get stretched out. The righty has been out since late May with a right triceps strain.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Unlikely to be activated this week

Kremer (triceps) may need to make another rehab start this week before being reinstated from the 15-day injured list, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Kremer logged 3.2 innings in his first rehab start June 16 while building up to 59 pitches. He made his second start Saturday with Norfolk but needed 39 pitches to record two outs and was charged with five earned runs on five hits and one walk. Baltimore can go with a five-man rotation this week even without Kremer, and if he is able to go deeper into his third rehab start, he could return from the IL as early as July 2 in Seattle.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Making another rehab start

Kremer (triceps) will make his next rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. The right-hander began the rehab assignment Sunday and threw 59 pitches across 3.2 innings with Norfolk, and he'll continue building up his workload Saturday. Kremer will then be evaluated for next steps, and if all goes well, he could return from the 15-day injured list and rejoin Baltimore's rotation sometime next week.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Goes 3.2 innings in rehab start

Kremer (tricep) struck out three and allowed five runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk over 3.2 innings in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Norfolk. Kremer spotted 37 of his 59 pitches in the rehab outing, his first since he was placed on the 15-day injured list May 21 with a right tricep strain. The Orioles haven't decided on Kremer's next step, but since teams typically want rehabbing starters to hit the 70-to-75-pitch mark prior to being activated, the right-hander could be in line for one more start with Norfolk or another affiliate during the upcoming week.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Starting rehab assignment Sunday

Kremer (triceps) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Kremer is slated to throw around four innings in what will be his first outing since he landed on the 15-day injured list three weeks ago with a right triceps strain. It could be the only rehab start he needs before rejoining the Orioles' rotation. If that's the case, he would be set up to start next weekend in Houston.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Throws bullpen session

Kremer (triceps) threw a light bullpen session Monday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. It's the first time Kremer has thrown a bullpen since being placed on the injured list May 21 due to a right triceps strain. The 28-year-old right-hander is eligible to return from the IL on June 5, though general manager Mike Elias noted Monday that Kremer will need a rehab assignment before returning to the majors. Before his injury, Kremer posted a 3-4 record over nine starts with a 4.32 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across 50 innings.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Out with triceps strain

The Orioles placed Kremer on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to May 21, with a right triceps strain. The right-hander was scheduled to start Saturday against the White Sox but will now be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks. It's yet another blow to Baltimore's rotation, which also lost John Means to a forearm strain earlier this week. Kremer will be eligible to return in early June, though it's unclear when he's expected to be healthy.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Hit hard in loss

Kremer (3-4) allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two over four innings to take the loss Monday versus the Cardinals. Mike Siani was responsible for plating four of the runs on Kremer's line with an RBI single and a three-run home run. This was a second straight subpar start for Kremer, who has allowed 11 runs (eight earned) over his last 9.2 innings. The right-hander is at a 4.32 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 49:18 K:BB through 50 innings over nine starts this season. The Orioles have a busy schedule through the end of June, so Kremer is unlikely to lose his place in the rotation in the near future, but he'll need to be sharper than he has been lately to maintain his spot in the second half of the season. He is projected to make his next start on the road versus the White Sox.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Punches out 10

Kremer (3-3) took the loss Sunday against Arizona, allowing six runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out 10. Kremer notched double-digit strikeouts for the second time this season, tying his career high in the category. He fell off after retiring the first nine batters he faced, allowing at least two baserunners in each of the following innings before getting the yank in the sixth. He was pulled after allowing a two-run homer to Jake McCarthy and walking Kevin Newman consecutively. Despite having allowed nine homers in 46.0 innings this season, Kremer owns a solid 3.72 ERA and a 47:15 K:BB. Kremer's next start is scheduled to come Saturday against Seattle.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Hit with second loss

Kremer (0-2) took the loss Friday against Kansas City, allowing three earned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three batters across 5.2 frames. Kremer held Baltimore off the scoreboard until Vinnie Pasquantino took him deep during the fourth inning. The score was still 1-0 when Kremer left the game in the sixth with two runners on base - both of whom came around to score - and a failed late rally by the Orioles' offense forced the right-hander to take his second loss of the young season. His performance Friday was certainly better than his previous outing against Milwaukee, and he's lined up for another chance to pick up his first win Wednesday against the Angels.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Punches out five in no-decision

Kremer did not factor into the decision Monday against the Royals, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out five. Kremer showed in spring training that he might have more strikeout upside as he enters his fifth season with his 16 punchouts in 16 innings. That possibility came to fruition Monday as the 28-year-old collected five strikeouts despite his average fastball velocity being down 1.1-mph compared to last season (it averaged 93.5-mph against the Royals). Kremer allowed his three runs Monday via homers to Salvador Perez and Bobby Witt but otherwise held the Kansas City lineup in check. He is currently scheduled to pitch against the Pirates on the road in his next start.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: In line to start Monday

Kremer is listed as the Orioles' probable starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Royals in Baltimore. Kremer headed into spring training with an inside track to a spot in the Orioles' Opening Day rotation, and he was able to secure a starting role without much stress after both Kyle Bradish (elbow) and John Means (forearm) were placed on the injured list. The 28-year-old right-hander's early-season form will likely determine whether he sticks as a member of the rotation once both Bradish and Means are ready to make their respective debuts. Kremer finished Grapefruit League play with a 3.94 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB over 16 innings.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Early exit against Guardians

Kremer escaped with a no-decision Friday during the Orioles' 9-8 loss to the Guardians, surrendering six runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three. Fourth-inning errors by Anthony Santander and Gunnar Henderson softened the blow to Kremer's ERA, but the right-hander was far from sharp, managing only eight swinging strikes over his 91 pitches in his shortest outing since June 30. The 27-year-old has faded down the stretch -- Kremer hasn't lasted longer than five innings in any of his four September starts, posting a 4.67 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB through 17.1 innings as he adds to his career-high innings total (167.1). Kremer will look to get back in the win column for the first time since Aug. 23 in his final start of the regular season, likely to come at home next week against the Red Sox.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Allows one run in no-decision

Kremer did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over five innings against the Rays. He struck out five. After surrendering a solo home run to Brandon Lowe in the first inning, Kremer settled down and held the Rays off the board for his final four frames, ultimately winding up with a no-decision in the Orioles' extra-innings win. It was a strong bounce-back effort from Kremer after he gave up five runs in 4.1 innings in his previous outing against St. Louis. Overall, the 27-year-old right-hander is 12-5 with a 4.17 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 146:52 K:BB in 30 starts (164 innings) this season. Kremer's currently stated to face the Guardians on the road in his next outing.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Solid in no-decision

Kremer did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four hits and three walks over 4.2 scoreless innings against the Angels. He struck out five. Kremer held the Angels scoreless but was unable to get through five innings, as he was pulled at 92 pitches in his shortest start since July 30. However, the outing marked his eighth consecutive appearance allowing three runs or fewer, a stretch in which Kremer boasts a 2.35 ERA and 38:15 K:BB across 46 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to take on the Cardinals at Camden Yards his next time out.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Grounds Blue Jays for 12th win

Kremer (12-5) earned the victory over Toronto on Wednesday, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out five batters over six scoreless innings. Kremer had originally been scheduled to start Thursday, but he was moved up a day as a result of Jack Flaherty (general soreness) being scratched. The adjustment didn't faze Kremer, who picked up his third straight quality start and his first scoreless outing since May 10. The right-hander has been pitching well since ending June with a three-inning, seven-run blow-up, posting a 3.06 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB over his subsequent nine starts covering 63 frames.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Earns quality start in loss

Kremer dropped to 11-5 after allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over six innings in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Padres. Kremer turned in a baseline quality start, with just a rough third inning tarnishing his line. He's allowed no more than three runs in any of his last five starts, giving up 11 runs over 29.1 innings in that span. For the season, he's posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 124:43 K:BB through 138 innings over 25 starts. The right-hander should get a little extra time to shake off this loss with Baltimore recently transitioning to a six-man rotation. He's lined up for a home start versus the Blue Jays next week.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Collects 11th win

Kremer (11-4) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings against the Astros while striking out five. Kremer managed to limit a dangerous Houston offense to just two runs over seven innings, with both of those runs coming off solo homers. The right-hander allowed at least one hit in five of those innings, but he did a good job of pitching his way out of jams for most of the afternoon. Kremer has now allowed three or fewer runs in four consecutive starts and two runs or fewer in five of his last seven. However, he's also issued at least two walks in six straight, registering a 28:16 K:BB over that stretch.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Falls short of quality start

Kremer wound up with a no-decision in the Orioles' 10-3 win over the Mets on Friday, giving up two runs on two hits and four walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four. The right-hander was handed an early 2-0 lead, but after five scoreless frames New York was able to get to Kremer in the sixth and he missed a chance to collect his 11th win or 11th quality start of the year. The four free passes also tied his season high, and he's walked multiple batters in five straight outings, posting a 4.00 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 23:14 K:BB through 27 innings over that stretch. He'll try to get back in the win column in his next start, likely to come at home next week against the Astros.
