  • Cardinals' Michael Siani: Idle against southpaw

Siani isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Left-hander Andrew Abbott will take the mound Thursday for the Reds, so the lefty-hitting Siani will retreat to St. Louis' bench. Dylan Carlson will get the nod to start in center field instead, batting seventh.

  • Cardinals' Michael Siani: Back in lineup

Siani (ribs) will start in center field and bat ninth in Monday's game versus Atlanta. Siani left Saturday's 9-4 win over the Giants with sore ribs and didn't play in Sunday's 5-3 win in the series finale, but the day off was all he needed to shake off the injury. The 24-year-old outfielder and his teammates will match up against Atlanta right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach on Monday.

  • Cardinals' Michael Siani: X-rays return negative

X-rays on Siani's ribs came back clean after he was removed from Saturday's game against San Francisco, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Siani was lifted from Saturday's contest with bruised ribs after making a diving catch in the third inning. While it seems as though Siani has avoided significant injury, his availability for Sunday's series finale remains up in the air.

  • Cardinals' Michael Siani: Exits game after diving catch

Siani was removed from Saturday's game against the Cubs due to bruised ribs. Siani made a spectacular diving catch in the top of the third inning, but he came up in discomfort and left the game shortly thereafter. Dylan Carlson has taken over for Siani in center field.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Two thefts in loss

Siani went 0-for-2 with two stolen bases in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins. Siani twice got aboard on fielder's choices, and he was able to notch a steal each time. He's picked up three thefts over his last six games and now has nine steals on 12 attempts this year. The outfielder is slashing a middling .214/.258/.290 with two home runs, 11 RBI, 18 runs scored, three doubles and one triple over 164 plate appearances. Siani has maintained his place in the Cardinals' lineup primarily for his defense, and his speed is a positive even though he doesn't get on base frequently.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Goes deep in win

Siani went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Marlins. Siani opened the scoring with a fifth-inning homer off Miami starter Braxton Garrett. Siani has hit safely in eight of his 15 games in June, but he hasn't posted a multi-hit effort since May 20. The outfielder is up to two homers, 10 RBI, 17 runs scored, seven stolen bases and a .210/.257/.283 slash line through 157 plate appearances. Siani sat out against the last two southpaws the Cardinals have faced, so he appears to be slipping into a strong-side platoon role in center field, with Dylan Carlson picking up at-bats versus lefties.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Out again versus lefty

Siani is not in the lineup for Saturday's game versus the Cubs. It's the second straight day he'll begin the game on the bench against a lefty, although Siani did enter Friday's contest as a defensive replacement. Dylan Carlson will patrol center field again for the Cardinals on Saturday.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Taking seat Friday

Siani is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Sian started the previous four games and will receive Friday off after going 3-for-13 with four strikeouts and a stolen base during that stretch. Dylan Carlson will start in center field and bat seventh for the series opener in Chicago.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Grabs steal in win

Siani went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Pirates. Siani is batting just .207 (6-for-29) over 12 games in June, which is right in line with his .206 average for the season. He's added seven steals, one home run, nine RBI and 16 runs scored over 148 plate appearances. Siani has become the Cardinals' primary center fielder over Dylan Carlson, and he should remain in that role with Lars Nootbaar (oblique) likely to be out for at least another week.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Idle Saturday

Siani isn't in the Cardinals' lineup Saturday versus the Rockies. Siani will take a seat Saturday despite the Rockies sending out right-hander Ryan Feltner. Brendan Donovan, Dylan Carlson and Alec Burleson will start across the outfield for St. Louis.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Powers offense in win

Siani went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and one stolen base in Monday's 6-3 win over the Orioles. Siani hit an RBI single in the second inning and then hit his first big-league homer in the fourth, a three-run blast off Dean Kremer. The long ball was Siani's first extra-base hit since a double May 12 versus the Brewers. The outfielder is batting .341 (14-for-41) over 16 contests in May, though he's still at a mediocre .238 average and .611 OPS through 93 plate appearances on the year. He's added six RBI, 13 runs scored and five steals.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Posts fourth steal

Siani went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Angels. Siani continues to hit well in May -- he's 11-for-27 (.407) over 11 contests this month. The center fielder has added two of his four steals, but he hasn't done much in the way of power with just one extra-base hit during the month. Overall, Siani is slashing .242/.306/.288 with two RBI, 12 runs scored and no home runs through 77 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Swipes bag in win

Siani went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Brewers. Siani has slipped into a part-time role since Dylan Carlson returned from a shoulder injury. It appears to have lit a spark in Siani's game -- he's 10-for-21 (.476) over nine games in May. The outfielder is at a .250/.318/.300 slash line with three steals, two RBI, 12 runs scored, one double and one triple through 71 plate appearances this season. The 24-year-old's defense is his best attribute, but none of the Cardinals' outfielders have hit particularly well, so he could gain more playing time if his bat stays warm.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Moves into reserve role

Siani is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Dating back to April 20, Siani had started in all but one of the Cardinals' last 13 games, but his run as an everyday player has likely come to an end with Dylan Carlson (shoulder) returning from the 10-day injured list Sunday. Carlson will start in center field in his first game back from the shelf and should immediately settle into a full-time role.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Notches second steal

Siani went 0-for-3 with one RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 4-2 extra-innings loss to the Mets. Siani is hitless over his last six games (0-for-17) while drawing two walks and striking out six times in that span. For now, he's the Cardinals' starting center fielder, but he's in the lineup mostly for his defense while Dylan Carlson (shoulder) and Tommy Edman (wrist) are on the mend. Siani is slashing just .108/.233/.162 with no home runs, one RBI, nine runs scored and two stolen bases this season.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Opening season in MLB

Siani will be on the Cardinals' Opening Day roster, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Siani put together a solid spring, slashing .306/.432/.389 with nine runs scored across 44 plate appearances, and injuries to Lars Nootbaar (ribs) and Tommy Edman (wrist) likely played a factor when deciding to keep Siani on the roster for Opening Day. Siani will most likely come off the bench while he's with St. Louis, and he will likely head to Triple-A Memphis once Nootbaar or Edman return from the IL.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: In line for more looks

Siani could get a longer look as a depth outfielder with Tommy Edman (wrist) and Lars Nootbaar (ribs) questionable for Opening Day, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Siani is unlikely to win a starting job, but he could make his way onto the roster as a fourth or fifth outfielder if both of Edman and Nootbaar required injured list stints. Over his first 10 Grapefruit League games, Siani has gone 2-for-12 with five walks, one stolen base, two runs scored and two strikeouts. He has gone 4-for-29 over 17 career major-league games between the Cardinals and the Reds the last two seasons.

  • Cardinals' Mike Siani: Claimed by Cards

The Cardinals claimed Siani off waivers from the Reds on Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Memphis, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Siani was DFA'd by Cincinnati on Thursday in order to make room on the roster for Hunter Renfroe and Harrison Bader, and he'll now join a division rival in St. Louis. The 24-year-old outfielder is slashing .228/.344/.354 across 454 plate appearances in Triple-A this season.

  • Reds' Mike Siani: Dropped from 40-man roster

Siani was designated for assignment by the Reds on Thursday. Siani has posted an underwhelming .698 OPS in 108 games this season with Triple-A Louisville and holds a career .167/.200/.167 batting line in 25 major-league plate appearances. The 24-year-old outfielder was a fourth-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft out of a Philadelphia high school, but he is now off the 40-man roster in Cincinnati as the Reds welcome in waiver claims Harrison Bader and Hunter Renfroe.

  • Reds' Mike Siani: Optioned to Louisville

Cincinnati optioned Siani to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Siani went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored during his six-day stay on the Reds' major-league roster. Alejo Lopez has been selected from Louisville ahead of Tuesday's game against the Giants.
