• Astros' Brice Matthews: Returns with two-homer day

  Matthews (back) returned from High-A Asheville's 7-day injured list Saturday and went 2-for-3 with two home runs and one walk. Matthews, the No. 28 overall pick in last year's draft, missed about a month with lower-back discomfort. As a college draftee in his age-22 season at High-A, the expectation should be that Matthews puts up huge numbers in the extremely hitter-friendly park in Asheville. Indeed, he has a 1.476 OPS at home and a .602 OPS on the road, albeit in a tiny sample.

• Astros' Brice Matthews: Managing back issue

  Matthews was placed on the 7-day injured list at High-A Asheville with low-back discomfort Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. The 22-year-old hasn't seen game action since late April due to the injury and will be out for at least another week. Matthews was drafted 28th overall in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft and has a .650 OPS this season in his first taste of the High-A level.
