Loperfido went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run scored and an RBI in Friday's win over the Giants. The 26-year-old outfielder was out of the starting lineup for the last three games before the All-Star break due to an illness, but Loperfido looked 100 percent healthy when the Jays resumed their schedule. He's made a big impact since joining the big-league roster in early July, going 7-for-17 (.412) with a homer, two runs and six RBI in six contests.... See More ... See Less

Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Over illness, but out of lineup
Loperfido (illness) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. The left-handed-hitting Loperfido will miss out on a third straight start, but his absence likely has more to do with the Athletics sending a second consecutive lefty starter (Jeffrey Springs) to the bump rather than any concern about his health. Loperfido was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's game due to an illness, but he was deployed as a pinch hitter in Saturday's 4-3 loss, drawing a walk in his lone plate appearance.... Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Scratched with illness
Loperfido was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Athletics due to an illness, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. Loperfido has been hot since arriving in Toronto on Sunday, going 5-for-14 with a homer and five RBI in four games. However, he'll take a day off Friday to recover from his illness, which will allow Myles Straw to enter the starting nine as the Jays' center fielder.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Drives in run in 2025 debut
Loperfido went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Sunday's win over the Angels. Getting the start in right field and batting eighth in his season debut for the Blue Jays, Loperfido made an instant impact when he brought Myles Straw home with a fourth-inning single, although he got caught in a rundown and tagged out trying to advance to second base. Loperfido had been on a roll at Triple-A Buffalo, slashing .303/.343/.455 with seven doubles and a homer over his last 15 games prior to his promotion Sunday, but it's not clear how much playing time he'll see during his current stint in the majors as Toronto has plenty of options for the corner outfield spots.... Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Called up Sunday
The Blue Jays recalled Loperfido from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday. He'll start in right field and bat eighth in the Blue Jays' series finale versus the Angels. The 26-year-old has spent the first few months of the season at the Triple-A level, and he'll receive his first look in the majors of 2025 with Andres Gimenez (ankle) hitting the injured list in a corresponding move. Loperfido has a .278/.354/.422 slash line with six home runs and 10 steals in 76 games with Buffalo this season.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Could return to games by Friday
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Wednesday that Loperfido (neck/back) will go through a full workout Thursday and could return to Grapefruit League play as soon as Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Loperfido suffered a neck/upper-back injury Tuesday when he collided with the outfield wall, but he emerged without any serious injuries and is not expected to miss much time. The 25-year-old is competing for a starting job in Toronto's outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Gets start in center field Saturday
Loperfido went 1-for-2 with a double in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees. More importantly, the 25-year-old got the start in center field, a spot the Blue Jays will likely need to fill for the first week or two of the season while Daulton Varsho completes his recovery from shoulder surgery. Loperfido, acquired from the Astros last year in the Yusei Kikuchi trade, slashed just .197/.236/.343 over 144 plate appearances for Toronto in 2024, but his defensive versatility in the outfield and 20-20 upside if he puts everything together appear to make him the early favorite to be Varsho's understudy. Jonatan Clase, Nathan Lukes and Myles Straw also figure to get looks in center field during spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: On bench Friday
Loperfido is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins. Loperfido is idle for the third time in seven games, giving way to Jonatan Clase in center field Friday. While Loperfido's playing time in center has been slipping, he's gotten a couple of looks in left field over the last four games.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Back in action Wednesday
Loperfido (hip) is starting in center field and batting eighth Wednesday against the Rangers. The 25-year-old suffered an adductor injury during Saturday's matchup with the Cardinals and is rejoining the lineup Wednesday after a couple days off. Loperfido should continue seeing regular action in Toronto's outfield down the stretch, and he'll likely see more starts in center field since Daulton Varsho (shoulder) will miss the rest of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Departs with injury
Loperfido was removed from Saturday's game against St. Louis with left adductor discomfort, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports. Loperfido appeared to be grabbing at his hip after hitting a double in the third inning of Saturday's contest, though he managed to stay in the game until the fifth frame. If his injury proves to be severe enough to prevent him from playing Sunday, Nathan Lukes would likely be the next man in line to start in left field.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Dropped from lineup Monday
Loperfido is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets. Loperfido will hit the bench after he started the final two games of the Blue Jays' weekend series with Atlanta, going 3-for-7 with a double and a walk between those contests. Since joining the Blue Jays at the trade deadline, Loperfido has put together a .222/.260/.394 slash line with a 32.7 percent strikeout rate over 29 games. Loperfido's lack of productivity has prevented him from fully taking control of an everyday spot in the Toronto outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Sitting again Saturday
Loperfido isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup Saturday against the Twins. Loperfido will sit for the second game in a row Saturday as Nathan Lukes picks up another start in left field while batting eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Sitting out series finale
Loperfido is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. Cincinnati has a right-hander on the bump in Nick Martinez, but the left-handed-hitting Loperfido will nonetheless begin the contest on the bench. Davis Schneider will receive the starting nod in left field in place of Loperfido.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Taking seat against southpaw
Loperfido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. After beginning his Blue Jays tenure with five consecutive starts, the lefty-hitting Loperfido will hit the bench while the Orioles send southpaw Trevor Rogers to the bump. Davis Schneider will spell Loperfido in left field Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Sent to Toronto
The Blue Jays acquired Loperfido, right-hander Jake Bloss and infielder Will Wagner from the Astros on Monday in exchange for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. After posting monstrous numbers at Triple-A Sugar Land, Loperfido had two separate stints in the majors with the Astros this season, batting .236 with two home runs, 16 RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases over 118 plate appearances. The 25-year-old had begun to see his playing time slip a bit in Houston, but Loperfido's role could grow more stable as he joins a non-contending Blue Jays squad. He'll provide Toronto with a versatile asset, as he saw action at all three outfield spots as well as first base during his time in Houston.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Joey Loperfido: Hitting bench Monday
Loperfido is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates. Loperfido will take a seat in the series opener with Pittsburgh, paving the way for Trey Cabbage to pick up a start in right field against Pirates righty Paul Skenes. Since being recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on June 21, Loperfido has mustered a lowly .179/.253/.313 slash line over 23 games.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Joey Loperfido: Not in lineup Tuesday
Loperfido is absent from the starting nine for Tuesday's game against Miami, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Loperfido is on the bench for a second consecutive contest, giving way to Chas McCormick in right field Tuesday. Loperfido is 5-for-33 (.152) with 12 strikeouts over his last 11 games.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Joey Loperfido: Back on bench Sunday
Loperfido is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. After hitting the bench for a three-game stretch from last Saturday through Monday, Loperfido had started in four of the Astros' previous five contests while going 2-for-16 with a double and two RBI. He'll cede his spot in the lineup to Chas McCormick in Sunday's series finale, and both Loperfido and McCormick will likely see their playing time trend downward once Kyle Tucker (shin) is able to return from the 10-day injured list after the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Joey Loperfido: Out of Sunday's lineup
Loperfido is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Loperfido started six straight games before taking a seat for Saturday's contest, and he finds himself on the bench again Sunday. He collected three hits in his first game back from the injured list June 21 but has gone 1-for-15 in the ensuing five contests. Mauricio Dubon will take over in left field as Jon Singleton receives a start at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Joey Loperfido: Getting fifth straight start
Loperfido will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Rockies. Loperfido will stick in the starting nine for a fifth straight game after going 4-for-13 with two doubles, one walk, two RBI, one stolen base and one run through his first four games since receiving a call-up from Triple-A Sugar Land. Houston has room in its everyday outfield for both Loperfido and Chas McCormick for the moment, but one of the two will likely lose out on playing time once Kyle Tucker (shin) makes his return from the 10-day injured list, perhaps as soon as next week....
