Player Outlook
Bo Bichette has been a model of consistency since debuting for the Blue Jays in 2019, and his .306/.339/.475 slash line in 2023 closely resembles his career line. His counting stats (20 homers, 73 RBI and five steals) took a bit of a hit as he spent time on the injured list with knee and quadriceps issues during the second half, though he still played in 135 games overall. Bichette's barrel rate remained stable at 9.6 percent, though he boosted his line-drive rate seven points to 27.4 percent to help maintain a .355 BABIP, which should be sustainable since it's only slightly higher than his career average. He recorded 38 steals over the 2021-22 campaigns, so it's surprising he stayed in single digits in 2023 given the rule changes that boosted totals league-wide. The two leg injuries likely played a role in the production drop, but he still had just three steals in 90 games heading into the All-Star break. Regardless of the stolen base total, Bichette has established a strong fantasy floor with a high average and reliable run production heading into his age-26 campaign.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Back from IL, as expected

The Blue Jays activated Bichette (calf) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Bichette will skip a rehab assignment and rejoin the floundering Blue Jays following a minimum 10-day stay on the IL. He'll bat leadoff Tuesday against the Red Sox. Isiah Kiner-Falefa had been handling shortstop while Bichette was on the shelf but now will slide back to third base.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Remains on track to return Tuesday

Bichette (calf) went through a full workout Monday and remains on track for activation from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. Bichette's placement on the IL earlier this month with a right calf strain seemed to be precautionary more than anything else and he's slated for a minimum absence. He will resume everyday shortstop duties upon activation, pushing Isiah Kiner-Falefa back to third base.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Resumes baseball activities

Bichette (calf) took ground balls, ran the bases and hit in the batting cage Friday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. He looks to be on track to return from the injured list once eligible Tuesday and should ramp up his workload over the weekend. While Bichette has been sidelined, Isiah Kiner-Falefa has drawn most of the starts at shortstop.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Lands on injured list

The Blue Jays placed Bichette on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to June 15, with a right calf strain. The 26-year-old hasn't seen the field since Friday due to the calf issue and will be sidelined for at least another week after being diagnosed with a strain. According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca, manager John Schneider expects Bichette to return from the injured list when first eligible June 25. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting at shortstop Tuesday and could operate as Toronto's primary option there for the immediate future, and Orelvis Martinez was called up and should also see infield action while Bichette is sidelined.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Could be available off bench Monday

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Bichette (calf) could be available off the bench for Monday's game against the Red Sox, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Bichette is out of the lineup for the third consecutive game while he works his way back from a right calf injury, but Schneider suggested that the shortstop is trending in the right direction and is scheduled to do "more hitting, baserunning, agility stuff" during a pregame workout. If Bichette responds well to those activities, the Blue Jays could call on him to make a pinch-hitting appearance in Monday's contest. Even if the Blue Jays opt to stay away from Bichette for another day, he would still seem likely to avoid a trip to the injured list and could be back in the lineup as soon as Tuesday.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Held out again Monday

Bichette (calf) remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox. Bichette will miss out on a third straight start as he battles a right calf injury. He had reported improvement with his condition Sunday, so Bichette should have a good chance at avoiding a stint on the injured list. In Bichette's continued absence Monday, Isiah Kiner-Falefa will start at shortstop again.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Improving, but iffy for Monday

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Bichette is improving in his recovery from a right calf injury, but the skipper declined to reveal whether the shortstop was available off the bench for Sunday's 7-6 win over the Guardians, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. "Hopefully it's not too much longer," Schneider said. Bichette missed out on a second consecutive start Sunday due to the injury, and Schneider's comments offered no assurance that the 26-year-old will be back in the lineup Monday versus the Red Sox. Isiah Kiner-Falefa has manned shortstop for the past two games in Bichette's absence, opening up one start apiece for Ernie Clement and Addison Barger at third base.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Remains out of lineup Sunday

Bichette (calf) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians. He was able to play through it for a few days, but this is now a second straight absence for Bichette due to right calf soreness. It's uncertain whether he's available off the bench. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will draw a start at shortstop with Ernie Clement at third base.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Day off Saturday

Bichette is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Guardians, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Bichette will get a rare breather Saturday, taking a seat after he went 3-for-18 with an RBI and a run scored over the last five games. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will slide over to shortstop while Addison Barger enters the lineup at third base and bats seventh versus Cleveland.

The shortstop is heating up again, collecting four doubles among his seven hits over the last six games. Bichette's sluggish start to the season is fading in the rearview mirror -- over his last 24 contests, he's batting .302 (29-for-96) with two homers, eight doubles, eight runs and 14 RBI.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Stays hot in Thursday's win

Bichette went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI in Thursday's win over the Tigers. All three knocks were singles, but they continued a hot streak for Bichette that has seen him reel off multiple hits in three of the last four games and five of the last nine. Since May 8, the All-Star shortstop is slashing .380/.426/.580 with four doubles, two homers, one steal, six runs and nine RBI in 13 contests.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Homers in win

Bichette went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 9-2 win over the White Sox. Bichette's power has been largely absent this season -- this was just his third homer of the season through 45 contests. Two of them have come over the last 10 games, a span in which he's hitting .351 (13-for-37) with seven RBI and four doubles. The shortstop is slashing a middling .233/.289/.349 with 19 RBI, 15 runs scored, four stolen bases, nine doubles and a triple through 187 plate appearances, though he's starting to turn things around.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Hammers out four hits Monday

Bichette went 4-for-4 with three doubles, a run scored and an RBI in Monday's win over the White Sox. Batting cleanup against righty Erick Fedde, Bichette scorched the ball all afternoon, and his final two doubles left his bat with exit velocities of 110.4 mph and 105.8 mph. After a tough start to 2024, the shortstop is catching fire at the plate, recording three multi-hit performances in his last six games and slashing .368/.429/.553 over his last 10 contests.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Moved down to sixth spot

Bichette will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Wednesday's contest in Philadelphia. Bichette had already been dropped down in the Blue Jays' batting order in recent days, and the No. 6 spot is the lowest he has hit since August 2022. The 26-year-old is just 3-for-40 over his last 11 games to drag his season batting line down to an ugly .189/.246/.268.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Steps out of starting nine

Bichette is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals. The Blue Jays haven't indicated that Bichette is nursing an injury or dealing with an illness, so his absence from the lineup for Monday's series opener likely amounts to a maintenance day. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will slide over from third base to man shortstop in place of Bichette, who had started in every game dating back to April 2. Bichette's day off comes while he's managed just one hit in 18 at-bats over his last five games, dropping his batting average to .210 for the season.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Drives in three in win

Bichette went 1-for-4 with a triple and three RBI in Monday's win over the Royals. He opened the scoring on the night with a bases-loaded three-bagger in the third inning. Bichette only has one homer on the season so far, but he's finding ways to stay productive. Over the last 10 games, the 26-year-old shortstop is batting .282 (11-for-39) with three steals, five RBI and five runs.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Launches first homer

Bichette went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Mariners. The shortstop finally connected for his first long ball of the season, driving a George Kirby slider into the second deck in left field at the Rogers Centre in the third inning. Bichette was just 3-for-25 to begin the season, but he has an extra-base hit in four straight games, going 5-for-14 with three doubles plus Tuesday's homer, as well as a 3:4 BB:K.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Bichette (neck) will be back in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Houston, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Bichette sat out the previous two contests with neck tightness, which he said made it difficult to turn and face the pitcher. However, the shortstop is feeling much better and is ready to give it a go Tuesday. Bichette is 2-for-12 with two RBI in his first three contests this season.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Remains out Monday

Bichette (neck) is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Houston. Bichette will be on the bench for a second straight game after he was scratched ahead of Sunday's 9-2 win over the Rays. The Blue Jays haven't indicated that Bichette's neck issue is anything more than a day-to-day concern, but Ernie Clement will spell him at shortstop Monday.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Scratched with neck spasms

Bichette was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay due to neck spasms. Bichette was penciled in for his fourth straight start at shortstop to begin the season but will instead hit the bench with neck spasms. The severity of the injury is unclear, so the 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day until more information is available. Ernie Clement will take over at shortstop for Toronto.
