The Reds re-signed Wynns (shoulder) to a minor-league contract Jan. 13. Wynns, 34, spent most of the 2024 season at Triple-A Louisville and suffered a season-ending teres major tear in his right shoulder in late July during one of his seven games with the Reds. It's not clear whether he'll be healthy for the start of spring training, but either way he's slated to begin 2025 at Louisville.... See More ... See Less

Austin Wynns: Elects free agency
Wynns (shoulder) declined his outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday and elected free agency. Wynns spent the majority of last season in Triple-A, where he slashed .250/.309/.410 across 110 plate appearances. However, a teres major tear in his right shoulder cut his season short toward the end of July. It's unknown if he'll be ready for the start of spring training, but the 33-year-old backstop should be able to at least net a minor-league deal in free agency.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Austin Wynns: Outrighted to Triple-A
The Reds outrighted Wynns to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Wynns is not on the 40-man roster but will remain in the organization for now. The veteran catcher suffered a right teres major tear in his right shoulder in late July and it's not clear whether he will be healthy for the start of spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Austin Wynns: Rehab assignment scheduled
Wynns (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Sept. 17, MLB.com reports. Wynns suffered a right teres major tear but was recently cleared to throw to bases. He is on the 60-day injured list and not eligible to return until Sept. 27, two days before the end of the season. While it's possible he could make a late-season return, it wouldn't seem to be a given that he's added to the Reds' roster.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Austin Wynns: Moved to 60-day IL
The Reds transferred Wynns (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Friday. The move doesn't officially end Wynns' season, though the catcher won't be eligible for reinstatement until Sept. 27 -- two days before the Reds' regular-season finale. Wynns sustained a right teres major strain in late July and has been on the shelf since. Luke Maile should continue to work behind Tyler Stephenson at catcher for Cincinnati.... See More ... Reds' Austin Wynns: Suffers torn shoulder
The Reds placed Wynns on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right teres major tear. Per Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer, Wynns sustained the injury at some point in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Rays, which may explain in part why Tampa Bay went 4-for-4 on stolen-base attempts while the catcher was behind the dish. Even if Wynns doesn't require surgery to address the injury, he'll likely be sidelined for beyond the minimum 10 days, and he could even be at risk of missing the rest of the season. The Reds called up Eric Yang from Triple-A Louisville to replace Wynns on the active roster as the backup to No. 1 catcher Tyler Stephenson.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Austin Wynns: Outrighted to Louisville
Wynns cleared waivers Thursday and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. The 33-year-old backstop was dropped from the 40-man roster Tuesday following the return of Tyler Stephenson but will remain in the Reds' farm system instead of testing his luck in the open market. Wynns has slashed .250/.309/.410 in 110 plate appearances with the Bats, and he would be the first choice to return to Cincinnati should Stephenson or Luke Maile need to miss an extended period of time.... Reds' Austin Wynns: Cut from 40-man roster
The Reds designated Wynns for assignment Tuesday. Wynns was up as protection at catcher for a few days while Tyler Stephenson was away but is no longer needed with the latter back in the fold. He cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville last month, and he seems likely to do so again.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Austin Wynns: Rejoining Cincinnati
The Reds selected Wynns' contract from Triple-A Louisville on Friday. The 33-year-old will rejoin the Reds with starting catcher Tyler Stephenson being placed on the paternity list. Wynns is slashing .250/.309/.410 with 16 RBI this season in Louisville.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Austin Wynns: Remains in organization
Wynns cleared waivers and accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirerreports. Wynns was designated for assignment by the Reds over the weekend but will stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 33-year-old spent just two days on the big-league roster and didn't see game action. He has a .253/.312/.414 slash line with four homers in 29 contests for Louisville this year.... See More ... Reds' Austin Wynns: Pushed off 40-man
The Reds designated Wynns for assignment Sunday. Just two days after having his contract selected from Louisville, Wynns will once again lose his spot on the 40-man roster without appearing in a game for the Reds. With a .726 OPS in the minors, it's possible he receives some attention on the waiver wire, but his .597 career OPS in the majors makes it likely he gets sent outright to Louisville. Livan Soto was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Austin Wynns: Dealing with sore shoulder
Wynns is battling shoulder soreness, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Wynns is still able to hit, but the shoulder injury has impacted his ability to play behind the dish. At the moment there is no telling how long Wynns will be out, but his injury could significantly harm his chances at making the Reds' Opening Day roster.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Austin Wynns: Clears waivers, will be NRI
Wynns cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Wynns is no longer on the Reds' 40-man roster but will be in major-league camp as a non-roster invitee. The veteran catcher is likely to be assigned to Louisville at the outset of the 2024 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Austin Wynns: Loses 40-man roster spot
Wynns was designated for assignment by the Reds on Tuesday. Cincinnati needed to clear a spot on its 40-man roster for the addition of Frankie Montas. Wynns was just signed to a one-year, $950,000 contract last month and the Reds are betting he'll clear waivers, at which point he would presumably head to spring training as a non-roster invitee.... Rockies' Austin Wynns: Gets start at catcher
Wynns is in the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs. Wynns will make his fifth appearance in a 10-game span. The catcher will have started in four of those games. The 32-year-old is starting in Elias Diaz's place.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Austin Wynns: Claimed by Colorado
The Rockies claimed Wynns off waivers Thursday, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Wynns was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Sunday, though it didn't take him long to find a new home. He's already played for the Dodgers and Giants this season and will likely slot in as organizational depth in Colorado behind Elias Diaz and Brian Serven.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Austin Wynns: Inks major-league deal
Wynns agreed to a major-league contract with the Dodgers on Sunday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. The 32-year-old elected free agency Friday after being designated for assignment by the Giants, and he quickly found a new home with Will Smith (concussion) headed to the 7-day injured list. Austin Barnes should serve as the Dodgers' primary backstop while Smith is out, with Wynns filling the backup role.... See More ... See Less -
Austin Wynns: Elects free agency
Wynns cleared waivers Friday and elected to become a free agent, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Wynns was designated for assignment by the Giants on Monday as fellow catcher Joey Bart returned from a back injury. Wynns, 32, holds a career .230/.274/.335 batting line in 181 games at the major-league level.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Austin Wynns: Moves off 40-man roster
The Giants designated Wynns for assignment Monday. Wynns loses his roster spot to fellow catcher Joey Bart (back), who was reinstated from the injured list. The Giants will hope Wynns clears waivers and remains in the organization as a depth option behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Austin Wynns: Nets MLB camp invite
Wynns, who was outrighted off the Giants' 40-man roster Jan. 12, will attend MLB spring training. Though he was moved off the Giants' 40-man roster during the offseason, the four-year MLB veteran didn't elect free agency and ultimately chose to stick around in the organization. He'll likely get the chance to compete for the top backup role behind No. 1 catcher Joey Bart, with fellow non-roster invitee Roberto Perez likely representing his top competition for the gig. Wynns saw action in 66 games for San Francisco in 2022, slashing .259/.313/.358 with three home runs and 21 RBI across 177 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less
