We are not sure which is the bigger surprise with Jose Siri: the fact he stole fewer bases in 2023 with the new rules and more playing time than 2022 or his final homer total this past season. The Rays acquired Siri to be the replacement for Kiermaier's defense, and he mostly held up that part of the bargain. What they didn't know they were getting was someone who could hit 25 homers in a tougher home park than he had previously played in. Siri strikes out with the best of them on an annual basis with both whiff rates and strikeout rates in the bottom 10th percentile last season. He doubles down on that with an anemic walk rate which makes him a problem in both batting average as well as OBP leagues. Through two full seasons at the big league level, he has hit .205 on fastballs with a 33% whiff rate on those pitches and that is how the league will continue to pitch him. This is an 8th or 9th place hitter whose defense keeps him in the lineup.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Scores three runs

Siri went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double and a walk Friday against the Pirates. Siri has hit well across the last two weeks, delivering six multi-hit performances in 13 starts. He's also homered four times in that span and tacked on an additional four extra-base hits. It was expected that Siri would primarily contribute stolen bases from a fantasy perspective, but despite swiping only one bag since April 6 he has found ways to be productive, particularly of late.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Out of lineup Wednesday

Siri isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Minnesota. Siri had started each of the previous eight games in center field and hit a couple home runs over that stretch, but he will begin Wednesday's game on the bench. Jonny DeLuca will occupy center field for the Rays on Wednesday.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Three homers in nine games

Siri went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and two runs scored Sunday against Atlanta. Siri slugged his third home run in his last nine starts, bringing his total on the season to eight. He's also maintained a .261 average with eight RBI and nine runs scored across 13 games in June, though his 36.7 percent strikeout rate in that span suggests his average will dip. Nevertheless, Siri is providing solid production across four categories for the time being.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Not starting Sunday

Siri is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. Siri began the series strong, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run Friday, but he followed that up with a hitless, three-strikeout performance in Saturday's 5-0 loss. With Siri beginning Sunday's contest on the bench, Jonny DeLuca will start in center field and bat fifth against Orioles right-hander Grayson Rodriguez.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Swats sixth homer

Siri went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Orioles. The center fielder got Tampa Bay on the board by taking Cole Irvin deep in the second inning. Siri is heating up at the plate -- over his last 10 games he's slashing .303/.395/.667 with three of his six homers on the season, but his 1-for-4 performance on the basepaths during that stretch is a stark reminder of his inconsistency.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Not in lineup

Siri is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Miami, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Siri has driven in eight runs over his last seven contests -- including one in the first game of the series Tuesday -- but he'll begin Wednesday's tilt on the bench. Josh Lowe will patrol center field for the Rays.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Delivers game-winning hit

Siri went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Sunday against the Orioles. Siri made his lone hit of the day count, as he delivered a two-RBI double in the eighth inning to account for the game-winning runs. He briefly lost playing time when Josh Lowe (oblique) was on the field, but Siri has now started eight of the Rays' last nine games and has gone 7-for-27 with seven RBI, four runs scored, two home runs and a stolen base in that span.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Homers twice in extra-innings win

Siri went 2-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs in Thursday's 6-5 win over the A's in 12 innings. Siri extended Tampa's lead to 3-0 in the second inning, blasting a 428-foot solo shot off Hogan Harris before tying the game at 4-4 with his second homer off Oakland closer Mason Miller in the ninth. The 28-year-old Siri had been losing out on playing time to Jonny DeLuca, though the former has now gone 5-for-11 in his last three games while DeLuca has just one hit in his last 15 at-bats. Still, with Josh Lowe (oblique) aiming for a return early next week, Siri may have to settle for a short-side platoon role. He's slashing .188/.276/.338 with five homers, 17 RBI, 18 runs scored and seven steals through 45 games.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Sitting out Tuesday

Siri is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Athletics. Siri had manned center field for each of the previous three contests for the Rays, but he will yield to Jonny DeLuca in this one. The 28-year-old Siri sports just a .531 OPS and 37.2 percent strikeout rate this season.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Sitting out Wednesday

Siri is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Siri has now started just two of the last six games as his playing time continues to dwindle. The Rays are going with Josh Lowe in center field Wednesday, while Richie Palacios will patrol right.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Regaining playing time in CF

Siri will start in center field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Siri has now started in four of the Rays' last five games and may have taken back primary duties in center field from Jonny DeLuca. Though Siri brings good defense in center field, his hold on a regular gig may still be tenuous, as he's provided little production at the plate this season (.244 wOBA, 60 wRC+ in 120 plate appearances).

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Pops grand slam

Siri went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Yankees. Siri has been in and out of the Rays' lineup since both Jonny DeLuca and Josh Lowe have been activated from the injured list. While Siri has started five of the team's last eight games, the majority of his playing time moving forward is likely to come against lefties in favor of the lefty-hitting Lowe. He slugged a timely home run Sunday, though that was his first hit across 17 plate appearances in May.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Ceding center field work

Siri is out of the lineup Friday against the Yankees. Siri will be on the bench for the third time in the last four games, as Jonny DeLuca continues to garner more action in center field. Siri is batting 2-for-17 (.117) since April 27.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Sitting again

Siri is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox. Siri will come off the bench again Tuesday, marking his second straight game out of the starting lineup. He's ceded center field duties to Jonny DeLuca in both contests, a trend that could continue if DeLuca keeps outperforming Siri at the plate.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Hitless in return

Siri (thigh) went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during Saturday's 3-1 win against the Mets. The 28-year-old was unavailable the previous two games while serving a suspension but was back in center field Saturday for the Rays. The thigh injury Siri suffered on a hit-by-pitch Tuesday also no longer seems to be a concern. He's back in center field for Sunday's series finale, batting ninth.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Begins serving suspension Wednesday

Siri (thigh) had his three-game suspension reduced to two games following an appeal and began serving the ban in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Brewers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Siri was handed the suspension as a result of his role in Tuesday's bench-clearing brawl with the Brewers. He ended up being held out of the lineup Wednesday with a sore left thigh, and that game will count toward his time served for the suspension. He'll serve the final game of his suspension Friday against the Mets, but he should be ready to play Saturday, assuming the thigh issue isn't still presenting complications for him.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Scores twice in loss

Siri went 1-for-2 with an RBI, two runs scored and was hit by a pitch during Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. Siri homered off Freddy Peralta in the third inning to get the Rays on the scoreboard and was hit by a pitch during his next at-bat in the fifth frame, resulting in Peralta's ejection. He came around to score in the fifth, but was later ejected himself after getting into a fight with Brewers reliever Abner Uribe in the eighth inning. Despite being the most productive member of the Rays' lineup Tuesday, Siri is still slashing just .186/.276/.302 and has struck out in 41 of his 86 at-bats this season, giving him extremely little fantasy value even in the deepest of leagues.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: One hit in return to lineup

Siri went 1-for-4 with an RBI on Friday against the White Sox. Siri has been in and out of the lineup since Sunday while dealing with kidney stones. Per MLB.com, he had a procedure to resolve the issue and is no longer expected to be affected. Siri's performance at the plate is a different issue, as he's currently striking out at a 43.8 percent clip and could lose playing time with the imminent return of Josh Lowe (oblique).

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Hits bench for second straight

Siri is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Siri missed time over the weekend after he was in considerable pain due to a kidney stone, but he rejoined the lineup for Monday's 7-1 loss to Detroit, starting in center field while going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. According to Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun, Siri still hadn't passed the kidney stone as of Monday, so the Rays could be electing to limit him out of an abundance of caution while he's still dealing with some bodily discomfort. Though he's out of the lineup for a second straight day, Siri should still be available off the bench. He entered Tuesday's 4-2 loss as a late-inning defensive replacement and struck out in his lone plate appearance.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Returns to lineup Monday

Siri (illness) will start in center field and bat eighth in Monday's game versus the White Sox. Siri didn't start two of the previous three contests due to kidney stones, but his presence in the lineup Monday suggests that the medical issue has been resolved. The 27-year-old outfielder returns to action Monday having gone just 1-for-23 with 12 strikeouts over his last seven games.
