Player Outlook
Michael Conforto signed a one-year, $18 million contract with the Giants in December of 2022 after missing the entire previous season because of a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery. It was a prove-it style of deal which Conforto was hoping to parlay into a multi-year pact after reestablishing himself as a power-hitting corner outfielder. Instead, he had to exercise the $18 million player option included in the agreement and will return to San Francisco with lingering questions about what kind of player he is and what kind of player he can be moving forward. Conforto held an .824 OPS across his first seven MLB seasons between 2015-21 before turning in just a .718 OPS in 2023. He hit 33 home runs over 151 games with the Mets in 2019 but has averaged only 20 homers for every 162 games played since the beginning of 2020. Outside of maybe OBP leagues, the current fantasy outlook here lacks a certain luster.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Hitting bench against southpaw

Conforto is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The lefty-hitting Conforto will hit the bench for the second time in the series as the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the hill. The Giants will go with the right-handed-hitting Austin Slater in left field in place of Conforto, who had plated at least one run in four of his last five games.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Launches ninth homer

Conforto went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Cubs. Conforto launched a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the second to put the Giants up 2-1 and was directly followed by another solo shot off the bat of David Villar. The outfielder has now posted at least one RBI in three consecutive games and in four of his last five overall. However, Conforto still has just one multi-hit effort this month, where he's now batting .125 with two homers, nine RBI and four runs scored.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Drives in three

Conforto went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Cardinals. Conforto has struggled mightily since returning from a hamstring injury. He's gone 6-for-55 (.109) over 16 games in June, a stretch poor enough to cost him an everyday role in left field -- he's been operating as a strong-side platoon player over the last couple of weeks. The outfielder is at a .232/.290/.409 slash line with eight home runs, 25 RBI, 22 runs scored and no stolen bases across 214 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Resting against lefty

Conforto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Conforto's streak of five consecutive starts will come to an end Wednesday while the lefty-hitting outfielder heads to the bench in a day game after a night game with a left-hander (Framber Valdez) on the hill for Houston. Austin Slater will enter the lineup in Conforto's place in left field and will bat leadoff.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Launches go-ahead homer

Conforto went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 5-2 win over the Rangers. The Rangers tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning, but Conforto's seventh-inning blast put the Giants ahead for good. The outfielder has slumped since returning from a hamstring injury, going 2-for-14 over four contests, but his long ball Friday could spark his bat. Overall, he's at a .268/.324/.478 slash line with eight homers, 22 RBI, 21 runs scored, seven doubles, one triple and no stolen bases through 42 games. Conforto should continue to see a starting role in left field, though he could be squeezed out of the lineup versus some southpaws to accommodate the red-hot Heliot Ramos.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: On track for activation Monday

Conforto (hamstring) is likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Monday's game in Arizona, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Conforto got into two rehab games with Triple-A Sacramento on Friday and Saturday, going 1-for-5 with one walk and one strikeout. He was set to be re-evaluated by the team after that and, as long as he feels fine, is expected back in the lineup Monday. Conforto has missed a little more than three weeks of action with a right hamstring strain.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Beginning rehab assignment Friday

Conforto (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. • Giants' Michael Conforto: Nearing rehab assignment

Conforto (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment later this week, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Conforto was cleared to resume baseball activities last week as he works his way back from a right hamstring strain, although it's uncertain whether he's done any running yet. He's been on the shelf for a little more than two weeks and shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated, assuming all goes well.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Cleared for batting practice

Conforto (hamstring) has been cleared to take on-field batting practice, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Conforto landed on the 10-day injured list just over a week ago a right hamstring strain. Taking batting practice is certainly a positive step in his recovery, although running will be a bigger hurdle for him to clear and it's uncertain when he might be ready for that. Conforto is eligible for activation Wednesday, but it would appear he'll need a little more time than that.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Lands on IL with hamstring strain

The Giants placed Conforto on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a right hamstring strain. After Conforto left in the fourth inning of Saturday's win against the Reds, the hope was that the right hamstring strain was mild enough for the 31-year-old to be considered day-to-day. The MRI on Sunday revealed a more severe strain, and Conforto will be sidelined until at least May 22. In a corresponding move, the Giants recalled Luis Matos from Triple-A Sacremento.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Diagnosed with strained hamstring

Conforto has been diagnosed with a strained right hamstring, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. For what it's worth, Giants manager Bob Melvin said of the strain that "it feels mild," but more will be known after Conforto undergoes an MRI on Sunday. Luis Matos was pulled mid-game from Triple-A Sacramento's contest Saturday and would appear poised to take Conforto's roster spot if a move is needed.

Conforto departed Saturday's game versus the Reds due to right hamstring tightness, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. • Giants' Michael Conforto: Goes deep in second straight game

Conforto went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Thursday in a loss to the Rockies. Conforto accounted for San Francisco's only run with a solo shot to left field in the fourth inning. It was his second homer in as many days following a 12-game stretch without a long ball. Conforto's power has run hot and cold this season -- he went deep three times over his first five games of the campaign, then homered just twice over his subsequent 29 contests before his current two-game long-ball streak.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Homer, three hits in win

Conforto went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Rockies. Conforto jumped on a hanging four-seamer from Peter Lambert to lead off the second inning and crushed it over the wall in right field to open a six-run rally for San Francisco. The outfielder would later add a single in the same frame before finishing the contest with his third three-hit performance of the season. Conforto has now hit safely in four of his last five games, while the home run was his first since April 22. He's batting .269 in May with three RBI and three runs scored and has also drawn a walk in three straight contests.

  • Giants' Michael Conforto: Belts fifth long ball in victory

Conforto went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run Monday in a 5-2 win against the Mets. Conforto scored San Francisco's first run after singling in the second inning, and he accounted for the team's final tally with a solo shot to right field in the sixth. The performance snapped a nine-game stretch during which the veteran batted just .171 and failed to register a multi-hit effort. Despite that cold snap, Conforto has started the season well, posting a .271/.311/.506 slash line with five homers, 16 RBI and 13 runs through 90 plate appearances.
