Patrik Laine CLB RW
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Cleared from Assistance Program
15h agoLaine (personal) was cleared by the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on Friday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Laine entered the program in late January after missing 17 games with a fractured clavicle. Laine only played in 18 regular-season games with the Blue Jackets in 2023-24, scoring six goals and adding three assists. He has requested a trade out of Columbus and should find a new home before the start of training camp.

Rafael Harvey-Pinard MON LW
Canadiens' Rafael Harvey-Pinard: Suffers broken leg
15h agoHarvey-Pinard suffered a broken leg that required surgery Thursday and will be sidelined for at least four months.
Harvey-Pinard will miss training camp and at least the first month of the season due to the injury. The 25-year-old was slated to see bottom-six minutes in 2024-25 before suffering the broken leg. He will likely be replaced on the fourth unit by Joshua Roy. Harvey-Pinard had 14 goals and 20 points in 34 games during the 2022-23 campaign, but he slumped last season, scoring only twice while adding eight assists in 45 regular-season appearances.

Thomas Bordeleau SJ C
Sharks' Thomas Bordeleau: Inks two-way deal
1d agoBordeleau signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sharks on Thursday, per PuckPedia.
Bordeleau's contract matches his qualifying offer, so he'll come with a $874,125 cap hit if he plays in the NHL. The 22-year-old had six goals and 11 points in 27 contests with the Sharks in 2023-24. He also provided 11 goals and 25 points across 35 outings with AHL San Jose.

Oliver Wahlstrom NYI RW
Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: Signs one-year contract
2d agoWahlstrom penned a one-year contract with the Islanders on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Wahlstrom and the Islanders avoided arbitration, agreeing to the one-year deal. Wahlstrom has been a huge disappointment since he was drafted 11th overall in 2018. He managed to score just a pair of goals and six points in 32 regular-season games in 2023-24, as he was a healthy scratch in 24 consecutive games, before seeing action in the regular-season finale versus Pittsburgh. Wahlstrom is expected to see bottom-six minutes in 2024-25, which will hamper his fantasy value.

Travis Konecny PHI C
Flyers' Travis Konecny: Signs eight-year extension
2d agoKonecny signed an eight-year, $70 million contract extension with the Flyers on Thursday.
The deal will begin in the 2025-26 season as Konecny has one more year at $5.5 million on the six-year deal he signed with the Flyers in September of 2019. Konecny had 33 goals and 68 points in 76 regular-season appearances last season -- both career highs. The 27-year-old will see first-line time, as well as first-unit power-play action in 2024-25, and could hit the 35-goal and 75-point mark, if he manages to remain healthy.

Josh Currie OTT C
Josh Currie: Bound for Germany
2d agoCurrie inked a one-year deal with DEL side Kolner Haie on Thursday, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.
Currie returned to the AHL last season with Belleville but hasn't made an NHL appearance since 2020-21 when he logged one game for the Penguins. It's a second stint overseas for the Canadian winger, having spent two years with Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

Connor Dewar TOR C
Maple Leafs' Connor Dewar: Grabs one-year deal
4d agoDewar (shoulder) inked a one-year, $1.18 million contract with Toronto on Tuesday.
Dewar suited up in 17 regular-season contests for the Leafs in 2023-24 after he was acquired via trade. In those outings, the 25-year-old center notched one goal, four assists and 20 shots while averaging 12:54 of ice time. Although the Manitoba native is expected to recover in time for training camp from his shoulder injury, he probably won't offer more than mid-range fantasy value, at best, given his lack of power-play minutes and bottom-six role.
-
Austin Czarnik DET C
Austin Czarnik: Signs with Swiss team
7d agoCzarnik signed a one-year contract with SC Bern of Switzerland's National League on Saturday.
Czarnik produced 10 goals and 28 points in 38 regular-season contests for AHL Grand Rapids in 2023-24. He added four tallies and four helpers in nine playoff outings. The 31-year-old forward also had one assist and 24 shots on goal in 34 regular-season appearances with the Red Wings during the 2023-24 campaign.
-
Joseph Veleno DET C
Red Wings' Joe Veleno: Inks two-year deal
7d agoVeleno signed a two-year, $4.55 million contract with the Red Wings on Friday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Veleno was a restricted free agent coming off a one-year, $825,000 contract. He had 12 goals and 28 points in 80 contests last season. The 24-year-old is likely to start the 2024-25 campaign in a bottom-six role, but he does have some upside.

Graeme Clarke NJ RW
Wild's Graeme Clarke: Pens two-way deal
4d agoClarke signed a one-year, two-way contract with Minnesota on Tuesday.
Clarke made his NHL debut with the Devils last season, logging three NHL games in which he notched six hits, two shots and zero points. While the 23-year-old winger didn't contribute much offensively at the NHL level, he did produce in the minors with 49 points in 67 outings with AHL Utica. Given his two-way deal, Clarke figures to split his time between levels next year, which will limit his overall fantasy value.

Beck Malenstyn BUF LW
Sabres' Beck Malenstyn: Secures two-year pact
4d agoMalenstyn and the Sabres agreed to terms on a two-year, $2.7 million contract Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Malenstyn was brought in via trade by Buffalo from Washington before the 2024 NHL Draft but needed to agree to new terms as a restricted free agent. Last season, the 26-year-old natural center saw action in 81 games for the Caps in which he generated six goals and 15 assists, all career bests. He figures to slot into a bottom-six role for the Sabres this year and likely has a ceiling in the 25-30-point range.
-
Daniel Sprong DET RW
Canucks' Daniel Sprong: Inks one-year deal
7d agoSprong signed a one-year, $975,000 contract with Vancouver on Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Sprong generated 18 goals and 43 points in 76 regular-season outings for Detroit in 2023-24. As a member of the Canucks in a bottom-six role, he should register similar numbers in the upcoming campaign. Sprong also could see playing time on the second power-play unit.

Will Butcher MIN D
Will Butcher: Signs KHL deal
2d agoButcher signed a one-year contract with KHL club Barys Astana on Thursday, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.
Butcher hasn't played in an NHL game since the 2021-22 campaign when he was with the Sabres. Selected by the Avalanche in the fifth round of the 2013 NHL Draft, the 29-year-old defenseman's move overseas likely marks the end of his NHL career. If that's the case, he'll eventually hang up his skates having logged 275 games in which he tallied 16 goals and 98 helpers.
-
Dennis Cholowski NYI D
Islanders' Dennis Cholowski: Signs one-year deal
2d agoCholowski signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Wednesday, per PuckPedia.
Cholowski picked up 31 points in 68 games with AHL Bridgeport last season and didn't see any NHL playing time. The defenseman is likely to receive similar usage in 2024-25, with only third-pairing minutes if he draws into an NHL game.
-
Henry Thrun SJ D
Sharks' Henry Thrun: Re-ups for two years
2d agoThrun signed a two-year, $2 million contract with the Sharks on Wednesday.
Thrun just finished his entry-level contract and posted 11 points over 51 contests last year. He earned four of those points on the power play and added 71 blocked shots and a minus-22 rating. With the Sharks expected to take a small step forward in 2024-25, Thrun should be able to contribute a bit more as a bottom-four defenseman with a power-play role, though his fantasy usefulness is still likely to be limited to deep formats.
-
Spencer Stastney NSH D
Predators' Spencer Stastney: Awarded two-year deal
3d agoStastney's arbitration hearing will see him sign a two-year, $1.675 million contract with Nashville on Wednesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Stastney's deal will be a two-way contract in year one before converting to a one-way deal for the 2025-26 campaign. The 24-year-old blueliner has just 28 games of NHL experience in which he recorded two goals on 20 shots, four assists and 38 blocks. Given his two-way status for the upcoming campaign, Stastney figures to split his time between the AHL and NHL.
-
Santeri Hatakka NJ D
Devils' Santeri Hatakka: Agrees to one-year contract
5d agoHatakka signed a one-year, two-way contract with New Jersey on Monday.
Hatakka notched five goals and 20 points in 48 regular-season appearances with AHL Utica in 2023-24. He also contributed two assists, 12 shots on goal, 12 blocked shots and 14 hits in 12 NHL outings with the Devils last campaign. The 23-year-old defender will battle for a depth spot during New Jersey's training camp but may spend most of 2024-25 in the minors.
-
Torey Krug STL D
Blues' Torey Krug: Dealing with ankle injury
10d agoKrug was diagnosed with pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle and will be evaluated in 6-8 weeks.
That timeline puts Krug's next check-up at just before training camp. If his ankle gets worse, surgery is on the table, which would cost him the entire 2024-25 campaign. As is, it's likely the defenseman misses at least some time early in the season since his offseason ramp-up will be disrupted. If Krug misses the year, it could lead to a full-time role for Pierre-Olivier Joseph on the third pairing, while Scott Perunovich and Justin Faulk would figure to get the most additional power-play time.
-
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen BUF G
Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Receives five-year contract
2d agoLuukkonen signed a five-year, $23.75 million contract with the Sabres on Wednesday.
Luukkonen was slated for an arbitration hearing, but the two sides were able to reach an agreement on their own. The 25-year-old netminder had a breakout 2023-24 campaign, going 27-22-4 with a 2.57 GAA and a .910 save percentage in 54 contests. While the Sabres also have Devon Levi around, Luukkonen appears set to be the team's No. 1 goalie for a majority of the remainder of this decade.

Kevin Mandolese COL G
Avalanche's Kevin Mandolese: Signs with new team
10d agoMandolese signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Avalanche on Tuesday.
Mandolese's rights were acquired from Ottawa on Monday, and it didn't take Colorado long to get the 23-year-old goalie under contract. Mandolese is likely to spend most of 2024-25 with AHL Colorado, though he has three games of NHL experience and could see some time with the big club if Alexandar Georgiev or Justus Annunen are sidelined at any point.
-
Arturs Silovs VAN G
Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Secures two-year contract
11d agoSilovs signed a two-year, $1.7 million contract with Vancouver on Tuesday.
Silovs posted a 3-0-1 record with a 2.47 GAA and an .881 save percentage in four regular-season appearances with the Canucks in 2023-24. He also went 5-5 in the playoffs with a 2.91 GAA and an .898 save percentage in 10 outings. Silovs will likely begin the 2024-25 campaign as Thatcher Demko's (knee) backup.
-
Kevin Mandolese COL G
Avalanche's Kevin Mandolese: Acquired in trade
11d agoColorado acquired Mandolese and a 2026 seventh-round pick from Ottawa on Monday in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round selection.
Mandolese posted a 10-9-2 record with a 3.07 GAA and a .901 save percentage across 23 regular-season appearances for AHL Belleville in 2023-24. He also went 0-2-0 with a 3.53 GAA and a .918 save percentage in two outings with ECHL Allen. With Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen poised to occupy the top-two goaltending spots with the Avalanche in 2024-25, Mandolese will likely start the season in the minors.
-
Mads Sogaard OTT G
Senators' Mads Sogaard: Signs two-year deal
12d agoSogaard signed a two-year, $1.55 million contract with Ottawa on Monday.
Sogaard posted an 18-9-3 record with two shutouts, a 2.45 GAA and a .916 save percentage in 32 regular-season outings for AHL Belleville in 2023-24. The 23-year-old netminder also went 1-3-0 with a 4.04 GAA and an .859 save percentage in six NHL appearances with Ottawa last season. Sogaard will likely begin the upcoming season in the minors, as Linus Ullmark and Anton Forsberg are expected to open the year as the Senators' NHL goalies.
-
Kyle Keyser BOS G
Kyle Keyser: Signs with KHL team
13d agoKeyser signed a one-year contract with the Kunlun Red Star of the KHL on Thursday.
Keyser shared time between the AHL and ECHL over the past five campaigns. During that span, the 25-year-old goaltender posted a 29-27-13 record with a 2.83 GAA and a .902 save percentage in 73 regular-season AHL outings for Providence. Keyser hasn't seen any NHL action yet in his career.
