Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Ankle injury not considered serious

Manager Oliver Marmol said Saturday that Edman (wrist) was able to field grounders again Friday without any problems with his sprained ankle, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Marmol added that Edman remains on track to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield or Triple-A Memphis sometime next week, barring any setbacks. The 29-year-old infielder has spent all season on the injured list, so an extended stint in the minors will likely be necessary, though it's still possible he'll be able to rejoin the big-league club before the All-Star break.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | NYM

    Mets' Jeff McNeil: Idle Saturday

McNeil isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's game against Houston.

McNeil will get a day off Saturday after going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer during Friday's win. Jose Iglesias will start at second base instead and bat eighth.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | NYM

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Ends power drought Friday

McNeil went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-2 win over the Astros.

The second baseman took Ronel Blanco deep in the sixth inning, the third of three Mets homers on the night. It was McNeil's first long ball since May 22, snapping a 23-game power outage, and the performance was his first three-hit game since May 7. He'll need more than one good game to earn the trust of fantasy GMs again, however -- on the season, McNeil is slashing a feeble .212/.283/.312 with four home runs, four steals, 19 RBI and 31 runs in 72 contests.

  • Giants' Thairo Estrada: Officially placed on IL

The Giants placed Estrada on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left wrist sprain, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reported earlier Friday that Estrada has been playing through multiple injuries recently, and the Giants will now place the 28-year-old infielder on the IL so that he can recover properly. Tyler Fitzgerald will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to help replenish the Giants' infield depth, and Nick Ahmed figures to see the biggest increase in playing time while Estrada is sidelined.

  • Giants' Thairo Estrada: Headed toward IL stint

Manager Bob Melvin said Friday that it's likely Estrada will be placed on the injured list due to an undisclosed injury, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Pavlovic notes that Estrada has been working through multiple injuries lately and hasn't played in back-to-back games. With the Giants needing to free up a roster spot for the return of LaMonte Wade (hamstring), Estrada could be given an extended break.

  • Giants' Thairo Estrada: Sitting Friday

Estrada isn't in the Giants' lineup for Friday's game versus the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Estrada will take a seat Friday after going 2-for-14 with four strikeouts during the Giants' previous series against the Cubs. Brett Wisely will shift to second base while Nick Ahmed gets the nod at shortstop, batting ninth.

  • Kody Clemens 2B | PHI

Phillies' Kody Clemens: Back from IL

The Phillies activated Clemens (back) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Clemens has missed most of June with back spasms but is ready to go following a six-game rehab stint which included a pair of home runs. He will give the Phillies an option both at first base and designated hitter while Bryce Harper (hamstring) and Kyle Schwarber (groin) are out.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Goes deep, swipes bag in win

Hoerner went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and a stolen base in Thursday's 5-3, 10-inning win over the Giants.

Hoerner blasted his third home run of the season in the third inning with a runner on and also stole his 14th base of the year The infielder is not known as a big power threat, as his career best in homers for a season is only 10, but he is a capable baserunner. Hoerner swiped a career-high 43 bases last year, and he had 20 stolen bases in 2022. Fantasy managers will hope he continues to run frequently the rest of the way.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Resting versus LHP

Gorman isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Gorman and his .596 OPS against southpaws will take a seat Thursday as the Reds prepare to send lefty Andrew Abbott to the mound. Jose Fermin will take over at second base and bat eighth.

  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Out again versus lefty

Stott is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Marlins.

He was out of the lineup Tuesday against a lefty and will also begin this one on the bench as the Marlins send southpaw Trevor Rogers to the hill. Stott did pinch hit in Tuesday's contest, so perhaps another mid-game appearance is possible. Whit Merrifield is handling second base for the Phillies on Thursday.
