  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Escapes eighth-inning jam

Leasure retired the only batter he faced in the eighth inning to earn a hold Tuesday against the Royals. Leasure entered the game with the tying run at second base in the eighth inning and retired the only batter he faced on three pitches to escape the jam. He was surprisingly not brought back out for the ninth inning despite the light workload, with Cam Booser instead blowing a save chance and taking the loss. This usage suggests that Leasure is the White Sox's preferred highest-leverage reliever -- rather than designated closer -- though it's difficult to speculate on the closer role given that the team has only one save for the season.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Blows save, suffers loss

Leasure (0-2) blew the save and took the loss in Sunday's extra-inning game with the Athletics. He allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and no walks in one-third of an inning. Leasure was called upon to close out a 2-1 lead in the 10th inning. The Chicago reliever struck out JJ Bleday before allowing a walk-off, two-run homer on his first pitch to Luis Urias. Since the White Sox have only seven wins, it has been difficult to determine who is the team's closer. However, given the opportunity he was given in this game, Leasure still remains in the saves mix. He currently sports a 4.50 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB across 10 innings while surrendering three homers.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Charged with blown save

Leasure allowed one hit and one walk without recording an out to blow the save Sunday against the Tigers. Leasure entered the game in the ninth inning with one out and the bases loaded while being tasked with protecting a two-run lead. He walked the first batter he faced before surrendering a two-run double to Spencer Torkelson to blow the save chance. It was a tough spot for Leasure, but he didn't handle the pressure situation well. Nevertheless, he could be an option in high-leverage spots having recorded six strikeouts across five appearances and 3.2 innings for a White Sox bullpen that lacks standout talent.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Starts up rehab assignment

Leasure (shoulder) made his second rehab appearance for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, striking out one and issuing one walk and giving up no hits over a scoreless inning. Leasure began his rehab assignment last Friday and turned in a 1-2-3 inning for Charlotte that day before following up Tuesday with another strong appearance. On the shelf since July 20 with a right shoulder impingement, Leasure looks like he could be ready to return from the 15-day injured list this weekend and rejoin the bullpen. He'll be a candidate to fill a high-leverage role and could even factor into the closer picture, but save opportunities will likely be few and far between for the 33-113 White Sox down the stretch.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Placed on 15-day IL

Leasure was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement Saturday, retroactive to July 17, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports. Leasure last appeared in a game Sunday when he gave up four runs on four hits and a walk over one inning against the Pirates. He'll now be forced to miss at least 15 days. In a corresponding move, left-hander Sammy Peralta was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Struggling since return to majors

Leasure allowed one earned run on one hit across one inning to earn a hold in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Twins. He still earned his ninth hold of the season despite serving up a solo homer to Matt Wallner. Leasure has made two appearances since rejoining the big-league club Monday, though he's given up three homers and five earned runs. The White Sox may be interested in continuing to give Leasure looks in high-leverage situations to aid his development, but he's allowed at least one earned run in five of his last 10 outings.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Optioned to Triple-A

The White Sox optioned Leasure to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. Leasure earned a high-leverage role with a 2.52 ERA through his first 26 outings this season, but he'll head to the minors after giving up six runs in his past four outings. The right-hander is a decent bet to rejoin Chicago later in the summer, especially if the club offloads any bullpen pieces ahead of the trade deadline.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Working as primary setup man

Leasure allowed one hit and struck out one across a scoreless inning in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Leasure is consistently working in high-leverage roles, with each of his last four appearances coming in the eighth inning or later. He's turned in three scoreless performances in that span, though he did blow a lead April 28 by allowing two earned runs to the Twins. Leasure also hasn't been particularly dominant overall, maintaining a 9:6 K:BB in 14 innings of work for the season. Still, he has one of the White Sox's five total saves and could be the choice to close games out when Michael Kopech is used in high-leverage situations rather than being reserved for save situations.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Picks up third hold

Leasure allowed one earned run on two hits across one inning to earn a hold Tuesday against the Twins. Leasure entered the game in the seventh inning and was tasked with protecting a two-run lead. He gave up an earned run for his second consecutive appearance, though those are his only runs allowed across 9.1 innings of work on the season. Michael Kopech has earned the majority of save chances for the White Sox to this point in the campaign, but Leasure has proven to work effectively in high-leverage roles.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Officially added to roster

The White Sox selected Leasure's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Leasure earned an Opening Day roster spot by permitting just two runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 9.1 Cactus League innings. The hard-throwing right-hander has yet to appear in a major-league game but could find himself in high-leverage relief situations right away.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Earns roster spot

Leasure will make the Opening Day roster, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Leasure did not allow an earned run until his 10th appearance of Cactus League action, and he's compiled an 11:4 K:BB across 9.1 innings. He's likely to be in immediate contention for high-leverage roles with the team, though manager Pedro Grifol has made it clear that the White Sox will not begin the season with a defined closer.

  • White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Impressing in camp

Leasure has impressed coaches and teammates early in camp, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Leasure was acquired by the White Sox at the trade deadline last season and reached Triple-A Charlotte prior to the close of the campaign. His surface stats weren't particularly impressive, but he did manage 23 punchouts across 13.1 innings of work at the level. With a fastball that hits triple digits, Leasure has the upside to be a high-leverage reliever. Given that the White Sox's bullpen is wide open, he may work his way into a setup -- and potentially even closer -- role as early as 2024.
