Sheets went 3-for-6 with a home run, a double, two total runs and three total RBI in a 21-0 rout of the Rockies on Saturday. Sheets capped a five-run San Diego first inning with a 439-foot, two-run blast to right-center field, and he added an RBI double in the eighth frame to conclude a huge offensive day for the team. The veteran slugger has seven RBI over his past two games, exceeding the total he had accumulated over his previous 20 contests combined. Sheets is thriving in his first year with the Padres, slashing .296/.353/.500 with five long balls, 21 RBI, 15 runs and a stolen base through 119 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Gavin Sheets: Piles up four RBI vs. Rockies
Sheets went 2-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and a run scored in Friday's 13-9 win over Colorado. Sheets matched a season high with four RBI, and it was his third multi-hit game already this month. While he went just 1-for-23 to close out April, the 29-year-old slugger is batting .389 with one home run and six RBI over 18 at-bats in May. The lefty-hitting Sheets routinely sees the bench against left-handed pitchers, which restricts his overall fantasy upside, but he's hitting .299 with four long balls, five doubles, 17 RBI and eight walks over 87 at-bats versus right-handed pitching.... Padres' Gavin Sheets: Idle against lefty
Sheets is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. With the Padres facing a left-handed starting pitcher (Carlos Rodon) for the third game in a row, the lefty-hitting Sheets will remain on the bench. Luis Campusano will get another turn as the Padres' designated hitter in place of Sheets.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Sitting against lefty again
Sheets is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. The left-handed-hitting Sheets will remain on the bench for the second day in a row while the Pirates send another lefty (Andrew Heaney) to the bump. Luis Campusano will replace Sheets as the Padres' designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Taking seat Saturday
Sheets isn't in the Padres' lineup for Saturday's matchup versus Pittsburgh. The lefty-hitting Sheets will begin Saturday's game on the bench with Pittsburgh sending southpaw Bailey Falter to the mound. Sheets has just 10 at-bats against left-handed pitchers this season, going 2-for-10 with a double, an RBI, a walk and four strikeouts. With Sheets out of the lineup, Luis Campusano -- who was called up from Triple-A earlier in the day -- is getting a turn at DH.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Goes deep in three-hit game
Sheets went 3-for-5 with a home run and an additional RBI in Friday's 9-4 victory versus Pittsburgh. Sheets put the Padres on the board in the fourth inning with a solo shot to right-center field and added a run-scoring single in the fifth. The three-hit effort came on the heels of a seven-game slump during which the veteran infielder/outfielder went 1-for-23 with three strikeouts. Sheets has collected hits in bunches this season -- he has more multi-hit performances (nine) than contests with one hit (five). Overall, he's slashing .281/.343/.461 with four home runs, 14 RBI, 11 runs and one stolen base over 99 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Hits homer after moving up in order
Sheets went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to Detroit on Monday. For the first time this season, Sheets began the game in the top- third of San Diego's order -- he batted in the No. 2 slot behind Fernando Tatis. The veteran first baseman proved to be a good fit there, as he reached base twice, including with a solo shot to left-center in the fifth inning. Sheets' move up the order was largely due to the absence of Luis Arraez, who was placed on the 7-day concussion IL on Monday. Sheets has done plenty with the bat to deserve being pushed up higher in the lineup, though, as he's slashing .344/.388/.557 with three home runs, 12 RBI, seven runs and a stolen base through 67 plate appearances.... Padres' Gavin Sheets: Getting day off against lefty
Sheets is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. With the Cubs sending southpaw Matthew Boyd to the bump, the left-handed-hitting Sheets will retreat to the bench. Luis Arraez will replace Sheets in the lineup as San Diego's designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Idle versus southpaw
Sheets is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Rockies on Sunday. With Colorado sending southpaw Kyle Freeland to the mound, Sheets will retreat to the dugout while Luis Arraez serves as the designated hitter. Sheets has gone 2-for-5 with two walks and a solo homer in the first two games of the series.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Strong start in platoon role
Sheets went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Friday against Colorado. Sheets continued to help pour it on for the Padres in the seventh inning, blasting a 371-foot homer to right field to make it an 8-0 game. The lefty-hitting corner outfielder regularly starts on the bench and yields to Yuli Gurriel when San Diego is up against a southpaw, which limits his overall fantasy appeal, but Sheets is batting a strong .333 with two long balls, two doubles and eight RBI over 36 at-bats to open the campaign.... Padres' Gavin Sheets: Idle versus lefty
Sheets is not in the Padres' lineup against the Athletics on Tuesday. Sheets will begin the game on the bench with the Athletics sending southpaw Jeffrey Springs to the mound. Yuli Gurriel will start at first base, and Luis Arraez will bat as the designated hitter Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Resting vs. LHP
Sheets is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs. Sheets will head to the bench for a second consecutive game as the Padres prepare to face a left-handed starter (Matthew Boyd) for the second day in a row. Yuli Gurriel will work as the Padres' DH and bat sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Continues to sit vs. lefties
Sheets is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Southpaw Shota Imanaga is taking the mound for Chicago, so it's not a surprise that Sheets finds himself on the bench. He has a 1.196 OPS through 19 plate appearances, all but one of which have come against right-handed pitching. Yuli Gurriel will bat sixth as the designated hitter, as the pair continue to platoon at the position.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: On bench versus lefty
Sheets is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Sheets started the previous four games -- all against right-handed starting pitchers -- and has gone 7-for-14 with two doubles, a homer and five RBI this season, but he'll sit Tuesday while lefty Logan Allen takes the mound for Cleveland. Yuli Gurriel will continue to fill the small side of the platoon at designated hitter and bat sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Two hits, steal vs. Atlanta
Sheets went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 5-0 win over Atlanta. Sheets has started the last three games at DH against right-handed pitching. He's responded well to the opportunity, going 4-for-11 with a home run to start the campaign. Playing the strong side of a platoon, Sheets should offer decent fantasy value in a high-powered Padres lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Slugs pinch-hit homer
Sheets went 1-for-1 with a solo home run in Thursday's 7-4 win over Atlanta. Sheets was not in the starting lineup against left-hander Chris Sale. He entered as a pinch-hitter for Brandon Lockridge in the seventh inning and launched a game-tying homer off Hector Neris that kick-started San Diego's comeback victory. Sheets picked up where he left off in spring training, when he slashed .311/.367/.756 with six homers. The former White Sox player figures to see regular playing time for the Friars against right-handed pitching as long as he's slugging.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Selected to 40-man
The Padres selected Sheets' contract from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday. Sheets has done a fantastic job proving he belongs on the Padres' Opening Day roster since signing an NRI deal with the club in February, slashing .311/.367/.756 with six homers and 12 RBI over 19 games. He's now officially been rewarded with a spot on the 40-man roster and has a good chance to open the season as the Friars' go-to DH against right-handed starters. Joe Musgrove (elbow) was placed on the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Slugs spring homer Saturday
Sheets went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run in Saturday's Cactus League win against the Guardians. Sheets capped a six-run first inning for San Diego with a three-run blast to right field. It was his first homer and third extra-base hit over 26 at-bats this spring, but he's batting just .154 with a 1:7 BB:K. Sheets is in camp as a non-roster invitee and is competing for one of the Padres' final roster spots.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Joining San Diego on MiLB deal
Sheets signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Sunday that includes an invite to big-league spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The 28-year-old was non-tendered by the White Sox in November after he finished the 2024 campaign with a .233/.303/.357 slash line in 139 games. Sheets will provide some organizational depth at first base and in the corner outfield, with his clearest path to a roster spot likely being at designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Out for regular-season finale
Sheets is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Tigers. Unless he pinch hits Sunday, Sheets will end the season with a slash line of .233/.303/.357 with 10 home runs and 45 RBI across 501 plate appearances. Bryan Ramos will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth.... See More ... See Less
