Draft Scouting Report
Carson Schwesinger is an ideally sized off-ball linebacker with a modern skill set built for today’s game. He accelerates rapidly toward the line of scrimmage and has loose hips to mirror running backs in the run game. His instincts stand out, with quick diagnostic ability and plus athleticism consistently putting him around the football.
With exceptional range and deceptive physicality, Schwesinger is a real weapon as a blitzer. He trusts his eyes and attacks without hesitation, which generally works to his advantage but can leave him vulnerable to cutbacks and play-action. While he’s a quality block defeater -- mostly by being slippery -- he could add more pop to his pads for the next level.
A sound tackler who rarely misses, he battles well inside despite a sleeker frame, sifting through traffic to find the ball-carrier. His ball skills aren’t a standout trait, but his movement ability should translate well to NFL coverage duties. A true three-down linebacker, Schwesinger is ready to contribute immediately.
- 2024: First-team All-American (AP) after leading the FBS during the regular season in total tackles (136) and solo tackles (90)
- 2024: His streak of six straight double-digit-tackle performances during the season was the longest by a UCLA player since longtime NFL starter Eric Kendricks in 2014
- Super-fluid movements in all directions give him outstanding range
- Reliable tackler + serious asset as a blitzer
- Diagnoses plays in a flash
- Ball skills could improve
- Sometimes he's too aggressive reading his keys, which leads to over pursuit
- Could stand to get a bit stronger
- Bench press: 20 reps
- Vertical jump: 39.5 inches

Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Selected by Browns in Round 2
The Browns selected Schwesinger in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 33rd overall.
Schwesinger (6-foot-3, 242 pounds) is an athletic linebacker from UCLA who piled up 136 tackles in 2024. The Browns already have one standout linebacker in Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (neck) but not much aside from him, so the addition of Schwesinger could give the Browns two standout linebackers capable of playing in all phases between run defense, pass rush and coverage. His selection could also mean the Browns may be concerned about Owusu-Koramoah's ability to begin (or even play in) the 2025 season. Schwesinger should claim a three-down role early on in Cleveland.
