Draft Scouting Report
Moliki Matavao is a tall, agile receiving tight end with strong route-running ability and natural fluidity for the position. Though he lacks top-end speed and isn’t a true deep threat, he separates well with quickness and twitch, showing wide receiver-like traits as a route-runner. Matavao is a reliable pass-catcher with solid hands and enough burst to be a threat after the catch. While he’s not a dominant in-line blocker, his upside as a move tight end with receiving value makes him a compelling developmental option.
- 2024: Led UCLA in catches (41) and receiving yards (506)
- 2023: Honorable mention All-Pac 12
- Twitchy with legit separation ability
- Routinely makes tough grabs in traffic
- Smooth operator in YAC situations
- Lacks seam-stretching speed
- Not a blocker right now
- Lacks as a rebounder downfield
- 40-yard dash: 4.81 seconds
- Vertical jump: 32.5 inches
- Broad jump: 9 feet, 6 inches

Saints' Moliki Matavao: Big TE goes to Saints
The Saints selected Matavao in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 248th overall.
Matavao transferred out of Oregon after landing behind Terrance Ferguson, who was selected by the Rams in the second round of this year's draft. Matavao, a Nevada native, landed at UCLA and started the final two seasons, finishing as the team's top receiver in 2024. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound tight end ran a 4.81 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, which is below average for tight ends but is respectable for his size. His run-blocking ability will likely get him on the field sooner than his receiving ability, but he's hard to take down with the ball in his hands.
