WR JaQuay Williams, who signed with Auburn in February, has failed to qualify and will head to prep school, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
“We finalized it today,” Williams' high school coach Chip Walker told the AJC. “We talked with Auburn’s coaches, and with classes already started there, they wanted to go ahead and send him to Fork Union (prep school).”
Williams, a native of Tyrone, Ga., plans to only be enrolled at Fork Union (Va.) for one semester, with the hope that he can enroll at Auburn in January.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound, Williams was ranked as a four-star prospect, and one of the top-100 players in the nation by Rivals.com in the 2012 class. Emory Blake is the only proven WR returning for the Tigers in 2012. He had 36 receptions for 613 yards and five touchdowns in 2011. WRs Trovon Reed and Travante Stallworth have shown flashes, but neither has proven to be consistent yet.
Williams is the fourth notable member of Auburn's 2012 signing class to not make it to the fall. QB Zeke Pike transferred to Louisville over the summer, and RB Jovon Robinson and TE Darrion Hutcherson have been declared ineligible, as well.
Hutcherson is heading to Copiah-Lincoln, a junior college located in Mississippi.
