Stephen Barclay, CEO of the America's Cup Event Authority, said he will wait until the completion of an internal investigation of Thursday's accident on San Francisco Bay before making an official decision on whether the America's Cup will be held. Andrew Simpson, a two-time Olympic medalist, died when an Artemis Racing boat capsized. Barclay expects the event to be held.

Former New York Giants safety Chad Jones has officially abandoned his hopes of making a comeback to the NFL to make a bid at pursuing a pro baseball career, according to reports. Jones, a third-round pick of the Giants in 2010, nearly had his left leg amputated in a horrific car accident three years ago. Jones was waived by the Giants last May.

Andrew Simpson, a British sailor and two-time Olympic medalist, died on Thursday afternoon when Sweden's America's Cup entry capsized during training on San Francisco Bay. Simpson, a member of Artemis Racing's 11-man crew, was 36.

Usain Bolt, the world record holder in the 100 meters, needed a late rally on Wednesday to edge countryman Kemar Bailey-Cole in a photo finish at the Cayman Invitational. Both Jamaican sprinters finished in a time of 10.09 seconds. Bolt made his season debut on Wednesday night after pulling out of a meet on Saturday in Jamaica with a tight left hamstring.

A 17-year old Utah soccer player accused of punching a referee in a game on April 27 was charged with third-degree felony homicide by assault on Wednesday in connection with the death of Ricardo Portillo. The volunteer referee died last Saturday from a head injury sustained in the incident. Though the unnamed teenager was charged as a juvenile, prosecutors are seeking to try him as an adult.

Months after suffering a horrific leg injury at the World Championships in February, Lindsey Vonn said she is progressing well in her recovery. Vonn, the gold medalist in the downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, expects to return to skiing in September in advance of next February's Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Novak Djokovic, the world's No. 1 tennis player, suffered a shocking defeat to Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday in the second-round of the Madrid Open. It marked the second straight year that Djokovic failed to reach the semifinals in the event.

Former New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow topped Forbes' list of America's Most Influential Athletes in 2013 on Monday. Three prominent athletes from the 2012 London Olympics -- Michael Phelps (No. 2), Usain Bolt (No. 3) and Gabby Douglas (No. 7) -- received inclusion on the list. Three other quarterbacks, Peyton Manning (No. 5), Drew Brees (No. 6) and Aaron Rodgers (No. 8) also earned spots.

Chuck Blazer, a former Executive Vice President of the U.S. Soccer Federation and an outgoing member of the FIFA Executive Committee, was suspended for 90 days on Monday by football's world governing body. Blazer, 67, is accused of embezzling at least $21 million from CONCACAF, the governing body of North and Central American and Caribbean soccer.

Former BYU defensive end Ziggy Ansah became an instant sensation with Detroit Lions' fans last week when he wore black-rimmed, 3D glasses in the green room at Radio City Music Hall. The Lions selected Anash with the No. 5 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Ansah's fashion statement has earned him free movie tickets for a year from IMAX.

The Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly passed up three offers from teams to trade up in last week's NFL Draft when they selected Jonathan Cyprien with the No. 33 pick in the second round. In this week's rookie minicamp, Cyprien impressed coach Gus Bradley with his athleticism and leadership potential.

While a verbal altercation between the fathers of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert Guerrero could have been staged at Wednesday's pre-fight press conference, it may add some buzz to a fight that is expected to be one-sided.
