Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Grounds Flyers with strong effort
Lindgren notched a win Thursday with a 19-save performance against the Flyers. The final score was 4-3.
Lindgren was sharp, handing the Flyers their seventh loss in eight games. He was beaten twice by Matvei Michkov, and Tyson Foerster put a power-play snipe past him. Lindgren is 2-1-1 with one shutout, 10 goals allowed and a .903 save percentage in four starts since his upper-body injury. He and Logan Thompson have been time-sharing starts since his return from injury, and that will likely continue even with Thompson's recent contract extension (six years, $35.1 million).

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Starting against Philadelphia
Lindgren will start on the road against the Flyers on Thursday, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Lindgren was inconsistent to close out January, as he picked up his first shutout win of the season on the road against the Kraken on Jan. 23 before settling for losses in each of his last two appearances. Across those two outings -- which came against the Canucks and Senators -- he went 0-1-1 with a 3.49 GAA and .881 save percentage. He didn't appear in either of the Capitals' last two games but will have a somewhat favorable matchup against the Flyers, who rank 23rd in the league with 2.78 goals per game.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Saddled with loss
Lindgren turned aside 30 of 34 shots faced during Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Senators.
Lindgren kept the Capitals in it long enough to force the overtime frame but was hung out to dry on Thomas Chabot's overtime-winning tally. With Washington employing a fairly rigid split in netminding assignments between Lindgren and Logan Thompson, the 31-year-old Lindgren is likely to find himself next in action Feb. 4 against the Panthers.

Lindgren is expected to start in Thursday's road clash against Ottawa.
Lindgren stopped 23 of 25 shots en route to a 2-1 loss against Vancouver in his last start Saturday. He's 11-9-2 with a 2.51 GAA and a .904 save percentage in 23 outings in 2024-25. The Senators rank 25th in goals per game with 2.72 in 2024-25.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Unlucky loss Saturday
Lindgren stopped 23 of 25 shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Canucks.
The Capitals altered their goaltending rotation to allow Logan Thompson to start Tuesday in his hometown of Calgary. That meant a second straight start for Lindgren, who played well but didn't get much help from his teammates in this narrow loss. Quinn Hughes had both of the goals for the Canucks. Lindgren slipped to 11-9-2 with a 2.51 GAA and a .904 save percentage over 23 appearances. Assuming the alternating pattern resumes next week, Lindgren should be penciled in to start in the road-trip finale at Ottawa on Thursday.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Earns shutout in return to action
Lindgren posted a 22-save shutout in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Kraken.
This was Lindgren's first game action since Jan. 10 versus the Canadiens. The 31-year-old had lost his previous four results (0-2-2), but he snapped that skid with his first shutout of the season. His upper-body injury gave Logan Thompson a chance to gain some momentum between the pipes, so it's possible Lindgren may not see the steady 50-50 split of playing time there was prior to his absence. Lindgren is 10-8-2 with a 2.65 GAA and a .900 save percentage over 21 outings. The Capitals continue their road trip in Vancouver on Saturday.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Guarding cage against Kraken
Lindgren will patrol the crease on the road versus Seattle on Thursday, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Lindgren will make his first appearance in the crease since Jan. 10 against the Habs when he suffered an upper-body injury. The netminder is currently stuck in a four-game losing streak during which he posted a 3.16 GAA. Barring any setbacks, Lindgren could work his way into a split share, something the duo managed well for most of the season.

Lindgren (upper body) was activated from injured reserve ahead of his return to the lineup in Pittsburgh on Saturday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Traveling with team
Although Lindgren (upper body) won't return Thursday in Ottawa, he will travel with the Capitals, according to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com.
Lindgren practiced with the Capitals on Wednesday and traveling will allow him to continue to skate with his teammates. He seems to be making good progress and might return as early as Saturday versus Pittsburgh. The 31-year-old has a 10-8-2 record, 2.65 GAA and .900 save percentage in 21 appearances in 2024-25.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Lands on IR
Lindgren (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.
Lindgren won't be eligible to play until at least Jan. 18 against Pittsburgh after moving to the IR list. He sustained the injury in Friday's 3-2 overtime loss to Montreal. Lindgren has a 10-8-2 record with a 2.65 GAA and a .900 save percentage across 21 appearances this season. Washington summoned Hunter Shepard from AHL Hershey in a corresponding move to occupy the backup role behind Logan Thompson.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Exits Friday's game
Lindgren (upper body) won't return to Friday's game versus the Canadiens.
Lindgren suffered the injury in a collision, and while he initially stayed in the game, he later exited in the second period. Lindgren stopped all nine shots he faced prior to his exit, but the Capitals couldn't maintain a 1-0 lead after he left the contest, so he won't end up with a decision on his record. If Lindgren ultimately misses time, Logan Thompson would likely serve as a full-time starter in his absence.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Starting against Habs
Lindgren will be in goal for Friday's home matchup with Montreal, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.
Despite Lindgren having lost four straight contests, including an overtime defeat in each of his previous two, the Caps continue to roll with their every-other plan for the two netminders. During his current winless streak, the 31-year-old Lindgren is sporting a 3.16 GAA and an .880 save percentage. If he can't start putting together wins soon, the team may have to consider handing more starts over to Logan Thompson, who is expected to get the nod on the road against Nashville on Saturday.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Drops fourth straight decision
Lindgren made 24 saves in regulation and overtime and turned aside two of four shootout attempts in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Sabres.
The 31-year-old netminder has hit a bit of a rough patch. Lindgren has given up three or more goals in four straight starts, going 0-2-2 over that stretch with a 3.16 GAA and an .880 save percentage. The Capitals appear willing to let him work through it while remaining in a timeshare with Logan Thompson, but the play of the two goalies are headed in opposite directions -- Thompson has won four straight starts while posting a 2.01 GAA and a .935 save percentage.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Third straight loss
Lindgren allowed three goals on 33 shots in Thursday's 4-3 shootout loss to Minnesota.
Lindgren allowed two goals at even strength and one shorthanded. The shorthanded tally by Minnesota was a result of Lindgren misplaying the puck behind the net -- Yakov Trenin was able to capitalize on Lindgren's mistake to give the Wild a 2-1 lead late in the first period. The 31-year-old Lindgren is mired in his toughest stretch of the season, as he's 0-2-1 across his last three starts while allowing 10 goals in that span. Through 19 appearances in 2024-25, Lindgren has a 10-8-1 record, 2.70 GAA and .900 save percentage.

Lindgren has lost three of his last four starts, giving the 31-year-old netminder a 10-8-0 record to go with a 2.69 GAA and an .898 save percentage.
