Max Unger: Calls it quits
Unger has elected to retire from the NFL, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Unger's departure leaves a major void in the middle of the Saints' offensive line, as the veteran center played more than 1,000 snaps last season. He finishes a 10-year career having been selected to three Pro Bowls and was donned a First-Team All-Pro back in 2012.

Unger sustained a concussion during Monday's win over the Panthers, but he's managed to clear the league-mandated concussion protocol in time so play versus the Steelers. The veteran center will slot into his usual starting role.

Saints' Max Unger: Ruled out for remainder of game
Unger (concussion) has been ruled out for the remainder of Monday's contest against the Panthers, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.
The veteran will not return after being tested for a concussion and will have to pass protocol testing this week before he can return to action. The Saints have shifted the line to make up for Unger's absence, with Cameron Tom taking over at center.

Head coach Sean Payton said the original timetable for Unger's return, which is the Saints' third preseason game, remains intact. Look for the team to gradually ramp up his workload to give him an opportunity to meet that goal.
