  • Abram Smith: Let go from team

Smith was waived by the Vikings on Monday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Smith signed with Minnesota on Aug. 3 after leading the XFL in rushing this past season. However, the Baylor product wasn't able to push his way up the team's positional depth chart enough to make the 53-man roster. He'll now work to find another opportunity.

  • Vikings' Abram Smith: Seven carries in preseason debut

Smith had seven carries for 18 yards in Thursday's preseason loss at Seattle.

Smith got some action early in the game with Alexander Mattison sitting the contest out and Kene Nwangwu injured. He's still unlikely to make the final roster, but the XFL's leading rusher this past season showed a spark on a few plays despite a 2.6 YPC.

  • Vikings' Abram Smith: Moving to Minneapolis

Smith agreed to terms with the Vikings on Wednesday, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

After leading the XFL in rushing last season with 791 yards in 10 games, Smith has been signed by Minnesota. Before his XFL stint, the running back went undrafted in 2022 and signed with the Saints, but they waived him just months later. Expect the Baylor product to compete for a depth role at running back or a spot on Minnesota's practice squad ahead of the coming season.

  • Abram Smith: Waived by New Orleans

The Saints waived Smith on Sunday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Smith signed with the Saints this offseason as an undrafted free agent out of Baylor, where he registered 1,601 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns as the team's primary bellcow. However, he finds himself among the first wave of cuts ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline.
