Special teams coach Greg McMahon said on Monday there is an open competition at kicker between Garrett Hartley and John Kasay. Kasay replaced Hartley during 2011 training camp when Hartley landed on IR with a hip injury. Kasay was a welcome addition, and yet it was a bit surprising the Saints re-signed Kasay considering his age and Hartley’s lengthy contract. “We signed John for a reason, and Garrett knows that,” McMahon said.
