Meriweather allegedly failed a field sobriety test before declining to take a breathalyzer test.

According to ARLnow.com, Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather was arrested early Thursday morning in Arlington, Va., and charged with suspicion of DWI.

Arlington County police said Meriweather was stopped on I-66 at 2:54 a.m., and after smelling alcohol on Meriweather’s breath, gave him a field sobriety test. Which Meriweather allegedly failed. Meriweather then refused a breathalyzer test and was taken to jail.

Police say Meriweather told them he was driving home from a Washington D.C. club, but he couldn’t remember the name of it.

After his two Pro Bowl seasons in 2009 and 2010 in New England, the fall for Meriweather has been rather steep. The Patriots got rid of him just before the start of the 2011 season because of his inability to … well … tackle and cover defenders.

He signed a one-year deal with Chicago but was benched after starting just four games.

In March, he signed a two-year deal worth $6 million with Washington. A little more than a month later, this probably wasn’t the kind of production the Redskins were hoping to get from a guy who can’t have many more second chances left in the NFL.
