Are we having fun yet? (US Presswire)

There wasn't much to gain from Friday night's preseason game when it came to the Titans quarterback battle. Jake Locker wasn't good, but Matt Hasselbeck didn't play enough to steal the lead for the starting gig back.

So don't expect Mike Munchak to make an announcement about his starter any time soon. The Titans coach said Saturday he was in no rush to name a starter right away.

"We have two more weeks to see plenty," Munchak said. "When we feel we are at that point, we will make our announcement when the time is right."

Munchak was also asked if Locker's performance against the Buccaneers, which was certainly sub-par, hurts his chances to win the starting gig.

"I wouldn’t say he hurt his chances at all," Munchak said. "It’s still us making a decision on them. Would you rather it have been a different outcome? Both quarterbacks—I wish they were different last night. Matt (Hasselbeck) didn’t get much of a chance really. He had 15 snaps or something. Like I said, in both games, offensively we haven’t moved the ball the way I think we hoped we would."

That doesn't mean we should pencil in Locker to nab the starting job, but it sure sounds like Munchak and the Titans are trying to give Locker every shot at winning the job.

Whether or not that's the right move will be patently obvious pretty early on, too. The Titans invested a lot in Locker and they need to play him, but if he looks the way he did during Friday night's game -- against a bad defense no less -- things could get ugly pretty quickly, regardless of how good Chris Johnson looks running the ball.
