FB Owen Schmitt, a free-agent pickup, took the majority of first-team snaps Wednesday, ahead of returning starter Marcel Reece. Schmitt played the past two seasons for Philadelphia after spending two years with Seattle, where he played one year for new Raiders OC Greg Knapp. “I’ve been impressed,” Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. “That position, you’re going to find out a lot more when you put the pads on and start hitting. But I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far.”
