San Francisco 49ers DL/TE Demarcus Dobbs was arrested early Friday morning and will not travel with the team to St. Louis this weekend, according to a report from CSNBayArea.com.

Dobbs, a core special teams player, was arrested for possession of marijuana according to the report. The arrest followed a single-car accident in Santa Clara at about 3:45 a.m. on his 25th birthday.

The 49ers released the following statement about the incident:

"The 49ers are aware of the recent matter involving Demarcus Dobbs. We are gathering the relevant facts as it pertains to this situation. We have been in contact with both Demarcus and the League office. He will not be making the trip to St. Louis, and we will reserve further comment at this time."

Dobbs was released from police custody and faces misdemeanor charges.

Dobbs is the only 49ers player who plays on every special teams unit, and without him, it's almost a certainty that newly promoted LB Michael Wilhoite will be active against the Rams.
