Trail Blazers' Robert Williams: Not playing Sunday
Williams has been ruled out in advance of Sunday's game against the Bulls due to left ankle soreness, Danny Marang of 1080 The Fan Portland reports.
Though Williams is being listed with an injury, he may just be getting some maintenance for the second half of a back-to-back set. While Deandre Ayton (back) was sidelined in Saturday's 125-103 loss to the Rockets, Williams started at center and posted four points (2-3 FG, four rebounds, three assists, three blocks and one steal in 20 minutes. Ayton will be back in action Sunday and should start, while the absences of Williams and Donovan Clingan (ankle) will likely clear the way for either Jabari Walker or Duop Reath to serve as Ayton's backup.

Trail Blazers' Robert Williams: Steps in as backup center

After missing the last three games -- first because of rest and then due to an illness -- Williams made his return to action Thursday and settled back into the rotation as the top backup to starting center Deandre Ayton. While Donovan Clingan (ankle) is out for at least the next week, Williams should have a regular spot on the second unit. However, Williams' playing time may be more suppressed in competitive contests where the Trail Blazers will likely lean more heavily on Ayton, who played just 24 minutes Thursday.

Williams will miss a third straight game, with the first being due to rest and the last two being the result of an illness. Deandre Ayton (calf) is returning from a one-game absence and should start Tuesday, while Donovan Clingan is locked in as the team's backup center. With that in mind, Williams likely would have been outside of the rotation against the Nets even if he had been available.

Trail Blazers' Robert Williams: Ties season high with four blocks
Williams contributed four points (2-3 FG), six rebounds, four blocks and one steal across 16 minutes during Wednesday's 119-100 victory over the Pelicans.
Williams served as Portland's clear-cut backup center in the absence of rookie first-rounder Donovan Clingan (rest), matching his season high with four blocks Wednesday. However, the oft-injured Williams has appeared in only five games since Nov. 27, and he's yet to transcend 25 minutes in any of his 12 contests in 2024-25. The 27-year-old doesn't need very much playing time to be an effective contributor when it comes to swats, boards and field-goal percentage. Still, Williams isn't a reliable fantasy commodity overall while starter Deandre Ayton is healthy for the Blazers.

Trail Blazers' Robert Williams: Returns from three-game absence
Williams (ankle) tallied zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two blocks and one rebound across 11 minutes Monday in the Trail Blazers' 125-103 loss to the 76ers.
Though the Trail Blazers continued to deploy Donovan Clingan (nine minutes) as the primary backup to starting center Deandre Ayton, Williams saw slightly more playing time than the rookie due to head coach Chauncey Billups' willingness to use Williams alongside Ayton at power forward. Given the lack of a threat he presents as a perimeter shooter, Williams may find it difficult to earn significantly more minutes at power forward from here on out, especially once Jerami Grant (face) returns to the mix. Though he's healthy again after missing the previous three games with a right ankle sprain, Williams' fantasy appeal will be limited mainly to deeper leagues unless Ayton were to miss time.
