Soderstrom went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and a second run scored in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Giants. Soderstrom's fourth-inning homer snapped his 26-game drought without a long ball. In that span, he went 19-for-83 (.229) with just one extra-base hit (a double), though he did walk 12 times. The 23-year-old had no trouble delivering power earlier in the season, so this may be just the spark he needs to get on track again. He's slashing .253/.334/.436 with 15 homers, 49 RBI, 46 runs scored, five stolen bases, 12 doubles and one triple over 91 games.... See More ... See Less

Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Not in Athletics' lineup
Soderstrom is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays. It's only the second time all season and the first time since May 4 that the left-handed-hitting Soderstrom is not in the lineup against a right-handed pitcher (Shane Baz). Colby Thomas is making his first major-league start, playing left field and batting eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Getting afternoon off
Soderstrom is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers. Though he had been included in the lineup Tuesday against southpaw Tarik Skubal, the left-handed-hitting Soderstrom will retreat to the bench for the series finale in Detroit while the Tigers send another lefty (Dietrich Enns) to the bump. Max Schuemann will take Soderstrom's spot in left field and will bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Logs fifth steal
Soderstrom went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Friday's 5-1 win over the Guardians. Prior to Friday, Soderstrom had gone just 4-for-31 (.129) with five walks and six strikeouts over a nine-game span since his previous multi-hit effort. He's up to five steals this season, three of which have come in June, but he's not expected to be a big source of speed. The 23-year-old is batting .249 with a .776 OPS, 14 home runs, 45 RBI, 41 runs scored, 11 doubles and a triple over 77 contests this season. With Nick Kurtz having retaken a starting role at first base after a stint on the injured list due to a hip issue, Soderstrom has settled in as the Athletics' starting left fielder once again.... Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Sitting Wednesday
Soderstrom is not in the Athletics' starting lineup against the Astros on Wednesday. Soderstrom will sit for the second time in four days while Max Schuemann, Denzel Clarke and Brent Rooker man the outfield for the Athletics. Soderstrom has gone 10-for-52 (.192) with two steals, one triple, two home runs and 10 RBI since the beginning of June.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Receiving rare day off
Soderstrom is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. The 23-year-old will take a seat for the first time since May 4 while the Athletics hand JJ Bleday a start in left field. Though he's been limited to two home runs through his first 13 games in June, Soderstrom has demonstrated a patient approach at the plate, drawing 10 walks while striking out just nine times.... Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Gets aboard five times
Soderstrom went 1-for-1 with four walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Orioles. Soderstrom showed off a couple of things Saturday that he's not particularly known for -- speed and patience at the plate. He's now at a 10.0 percent walk rate on the year, though he still strikes out a fair amount (25.4 percent) as well. Soderstrom also swiped his third bag of the year. The 23-year-old has maintained a .256/.341/.480 slash line with 14 home runs, 43 RBI, 35 runs scored, 11 doubles and a triple over 66 contests. He should continue to play at first base until Nick Kurtz (hip) is healthy, at which point Soderstrom will likely rejoin the mix in left field.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Two homers, six RBI in rout
Soderstrom went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and a two-run homer in Thursday's 14-3 win over the Twins. It's already the fourth multi-homer game of the season for Soderstrom, though his last came on April 15. The 23-year-old Soderstrom had cooled off at the plate after a blistering start to the year -- he'd gone just 5-for-40 (.125) in his previous 12 games coming into Thursday. Soderstrom is now slashing .257/.333/.485 through 270 plate appearances this year with 14 homers, 42 RBI and 34 runs scored.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Ejected early Sunday
Soderstrom was ejected during third inning of Sunday's game against the Blue Jays for arguing balls and strikes, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Soderstrom drove in a run with a groundout during the opening frame but was tossed in the third inning after getting rung up on a called strike three. Despite the early departure, the 23-year-old still had a productive four-game set in Toronto, going 3-for-10 with two walks, a double, two homers and five RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Tallies three hits in loss
Soderstrom went 3-for-5 with a double in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Mariners. Soderstrom has opened May going 8-for-25 (.320) over six games. It's been mostly an empty average so far this month -- he's added one RBI, one stolen base and three runs scored, and his double Tuesday was his first extra-base hit of the month. Overall, Soderstrom is at a .291/.353/.525 slash line with nine home runs, 25 RBI, 23 runs scored, two stolen bases and six doubles over 37 contests. He's already matched or surpassed many of his totals from 61 games in 2024, so this could end up being a breakout year for the 23-year-old.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Receiving first day off
Soderstrom is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. Soderstrom will get his first day off of the season, in the midst of a rough patch at the dish. After slugging nine home runs in the Athletics' first 19 games, Soderstrom has gone without a long ball over the ensuing 15 contests and is slashing .228/.286/.281 with three doubles, one stolen base, six RBI and five runs during that stretch, a downturn that has coincided with a shift to the outfield to accommodate rookie Nick Kurtz. Soderstrom will give up his spot in the lineup Sunday to Miguel Andujar, who will start in left field and bat cleanup.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Will see time in left field
Athletics general manager David Forst said Tuesday that Soderstrom will see some playing time in left field and at designated hitter once first baseman Nick Kurtz is promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Soderstrom has never played a position other than first base and catcher during his time in professional ball, so he will be learning left field on the fly. Brent Rooker will also see increased reps in left field in addition to DH. Kurtz is likely to see some action at DH as well, but most of his playing time will likelly come at first base, where he is regarded as a superior defender to Soderstrom.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Cleared to start Wednesday
Soderstrom (calf) will start at first base and bat third in Wednesday's game against the Padres. Soderstrom was forced out late in Tuesday's 10-4 win due to a right calf contusion, but his early exit was likely precautionary more than anything, given that the Athletics held a six-run lead at the time of his departure. Even with a quick turnaround for Wednesday's day game, Soderstrom is feeling well enough to handle his usual duties as the Athletics' starting first baseman. The 23-year-old has been on fire at the dish to begin the season, batting .378 with a .440 on-base percentage and six home runs through 12 games.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Injury labeled as contusion
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said after Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Padres that the right calf injury Soderstrom sustained earlier in the game was a contusion, Jessica Kleinschmidt of Baseball America reports. The team initially labeled Soderstrom's injury as right calf tightness shortly after he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning, but Kotsay seemed to downplay the severity of the health concern afterward. Before exiting the game, Soderstrom went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. The Athletics will conclude their series with San Diego on Wednesday with a day game after a night game, and it wouldn't be surprising if Soderstrom were held out of that contest, especially with a team off day looming Thursday.... Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Removed with calf tightness
Soderstrom was removed from Tuesday's game against the Padres due to right calf tightness, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Soderstrom went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. His removal may have been precautionary since the Athletics were up 10-4 by that point in the inning, but it's still something the team might keep an eye on over the next couple of days.... Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Moves into tie for MLB homer lead
Soderstrom went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs and a walk in a loss to the Padres on Monday. Soderstrom first went deep with a 385-foot blast to right field in the third inning, then tacked on another homer with a 389-foot shot to right in the seventh. The third-year first baseman is off to a blistering start to the campaign, slashing .381/.435/.857 with six homers, 10 RBI and nine runs through 46 plate appearances. The six long balls are tied for the MLB lead with Aaron Judge, and Soderstrom is one of 18 players to have reached double-digit RBI to date.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Two homers in season opener
Soderstrom went 2-for-3 with two solo homers in Thursday's loss to the Mariners. Soderstrom looks set to play every day at first base and may get some playing time behind the plate as the Athletics' third catcher. He's picking up where he left off last September, when he posted an .852 OPS with two homers in 12 contests after a wrist injury in early July forced him to miss two months.... See More ... Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Starts another spring game at catcher
Soderstrom started at catcher in Sunday's spring training loss to the Giants. While it's unlikely that Soderstrom will be the backup catcher in addition to being the starter at first base, manager Mark Kotsay said he could play the position during the regular season, MLB.com reports. Jhonny Pereda has likely won the backup catcher job behind Shea Langeliers, but it's possible Soderstrom could get enough playing time at catcher to qualify in some fantasy leagues. Soderstrom played just one game at catcher in the majors but logged 21 games at the position in Triple-A in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Still in mix as catcher
The A's are open to Soderstrom serving as their backup catcher this season, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Soderstrom has progressively seen his playing time behind the plate dwindle as his professional career has progressed, and he appeared there only once in 61 big-league games last season. He's projected to serve as the A's primary first baseman to begin the season, though the team is considering him as the backup to Shea Langeliers to maximize their roster flexibility. While Soderstrom won't enter the season with catcher eligibility in most formats, his potential to pick it up during the campaign would be a significant boost to his fantasy appeal.... See More ... Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Swats pair of doubles in win
Soderstrom went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and another two-bagger in a win over the Rangers on Tuesday. The rookie drove home Shea Langeliers in the first inning with his first double and later added his ninth double of the season. Soderstrom's bat has caught fire after he went 0-for-7 over his first two games back from the injured list, as he's hitting .471 (8-for-17) with four extra-base hits, five RBI, two walks and three runs over his last five games....
