Vargas went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Royals. Vargas gave the White Sox an early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning and later added an RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the ninth. The long ball was his first in eight June games, during which he's gone just 5-for-24 at the plate. On the season, the 25-year-old is slashing .237/.319/.421 with nine home runs, 29 RBI, 30 runs scored and one stolen base across 257 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less

White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Day off Thursday
Vargas is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Tigers. Vargas will get a breather after starting every game since May 13 for the White Sox. Chicago will go with Tim Elko at first base and Josh Rojas at third base in Thursday's series finale.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Two homers in loss
Vargas went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and three RBI against the Cubs on Friday. There was some concern that Vargas would lose playing time after the promotion of Tim Elko, but he's instead had the most productive stretch of his season while shifting back to third base. He has started four consecutive games and gone 8-for-18 with three homers, seven RBI and four runs scored. After a very slow start to the season, he now has a .731 OPS with five home runs, 19 RBI and 19 runs scored across 42 games.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Swats clutch home run
Vargas went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer, a double and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Reds. Vargas was the hero for the White Sox on Tuesday after sending out a three-run homer in the 10th inning to put them ahead 5-1. Vargas drove in his first runs since he last homered May 1 and it was his second game this season with at least three RBI. He's looked much better at the plate over the last few weeks, slashing .328/.414/.541 with three homers, nine RBI, 10 runs and a 9:7 BB:K in 17 games.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Back in lineup Tuesday
Vargas (calf) will start at third base and bat second in Tuesday's game versus the Reds. Vargas missed the previous two contests with a right calf injury, but he's ready to go for the series opener in Cincinnati. With Vargas handling third base, Josh Rojas is shifting to left field for the White Sox on Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Belts first homer of 2025
Vargas went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Thursday's 3-0 win over Minnesota. Vargas extended the White Sox's lead to three runs in the sixth inning, when he took Jorge Alcala deep to left-center field for a solo homer. It was Vargas' first home run of the season, and while he has a .163 average for the season, he's been marginally better of late with a .217 average in his past seven games.... See More ... White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Slipping down order
Vargas went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored Sunday against the Red Sox. Vargas served as the White Sox's leadoff hitter in 10 of the team's first 17 games, but he struggled mightily and had just a .429 OPS entering Sunday's game. He's remained an everyday player but has dropped to the bottom half of the order in each of his last three starts.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Strong start from leadoff spot
Vargas went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Angels. Vargas was slotted into the leadoff spot and had a successful audition to keep the role. He tallied a two-run double in the second inning and then singled before coming around to score six frames later. Vargas has yet to find much traction at the big-league level, though the White Sox should afford him plenty of playing time to prove himself at in 2025.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Viewed as primary third baseman
White Sox manager Will Venable said Monday that he views Vargas as the team's primary option at third base, James Fegan of Sox Machine reports. Vargas is working out a bit at first base this spring, too, and he has plenty of past experience at second base and in left field. However, it sounds like he will focus on the hot corner in 2025. Vargas has managed just a .175/.273/.312 batting line at the major-league level and slashed just .104/.217/.170 in 42 games with the White Sox last season after being acquired via trade. However, he turned just 25 this offseason and is a former top prospect, so expect the White Sox to give him plenty of leash to see if he can hit his stride.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Adds muscle
Vargas added 20 pounds of muscle during the offseason, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Vargas had considerable prospect pedigree while rising through the Dodgers' system, though he's hit just .204 with 13 home runs across 591 big-league plate appearances. His struggles in 2024 were at least partially blamed on the fact that he lost 12-to-14 pounds during the season, causing him to prioritize adding muscle this offseason. Vargas made his spring debut Saturday against the Cubs and went 0-for-2 with a walk.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Taking seat Friday
Vargas is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Detroit. Vargas had started each of the last five games and eight of the last nine contests, but he'll begin Friday's series opener on the bench. Bryan Ramos will play third base and bat seventh for the White Sox.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Goes deep Sunday
Vargas went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Padres. Vargas took Yu Darvish deep to left center in the sixth to put the White Sox back up 2-1, though the lead would vanish in the eighth. Vargas picked up his first multi-hit game as a member of the White Sox and just his second home run and stolen base. In 36 games with his new team, Vargas is batting .122/.231/.200 with seven RBI, eight runs and a 15:38 BB:K in 138 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Still has chances for playing time
The White Sox intend to prioritize playing time for Vargas and Bryan Ramos down the stretch of the regular season, despite the return of Yoan Moncada (adductor) from the 60-day injured list, Kyle Glaser of MLB.com reports. While Ramos appears to have the upper hand for chances at the hot corner, skipper Grady Sizemore stated in Monday's pregame press conference that he has no set plan to introduce Moncada back into the starting nine, and he'll continue to give both Vargas and Ramos plenty of playing time during the last few weeks of the season. Vargas will likely see opportunities to play at various positions around the diamond over the next 11 games as the club sets its sights on next year.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Losing work to Ramos
Vargas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. Vargas will take a seat for the second day in a row and for the third time in five contests. Bryan Ramos appears to have supplanted Vargas as Chicago's preferred option at third base, though both players could see their opportunities dry up if Yoan Moncada (adductor) is able to return from the injured list later in the week.... White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Knocks in one
Vargas went 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a walk Saturday against the Mets. Vargas has struggled since being dealt to the White Sox, as he has collected only eight hits across 76 at-bats with one homer, four RBI and five runs scored. While poor team context deflates some of his numbers, he's also struck out at a 27.9 percent clip in that span. Despite those struggles, Vargas has remained the White Sox's primary third baseman, which should continue at least until Yoan Moncada (thigh) can return.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Getting day off
Vargas is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. Vargas will head to the bench for the first time since the White Sox acquired him from the Dodgers on July 29. While picking up six starts at designated hitter, three at designated hitter and one in left field over the White Sox's past 10 contests, Vargas went 3-for-36 with a home run and a 6:13 BB:K.... White Sox's Miguel Vargas: First homer with ChiSox
Vargas went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Friday against the Twins. Vargas has immediately stepped into a significant role with his new club, and he served as the leadoff hitter Friday. His homer in the third inning marked his first hit with the White Sox and fourth long ball of the season.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Starting in left field
Vargas will start in left field and bat second in Wednesday's game versus the Royals. The presumption was that Vargas would return to playing the infield after landing with the White Sox in a trade. However, after making his debut with his new club at designated hitter on Tuesday, he's now being used in the outfield. Vargas could still wind up playing a lot of third base and/or second base, but on Wednesday, the White Sox will have Nick Senzel cover the hot corner and Lenyn Sosa man the keystone.... See More ... White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Goes to ChiSox in three-team deal
The White Sox acquired Vargas and infielders Alexander Albertus (undisclosed) and Jeral Perez and a player to be named later or cash considerations Monday in a three-team deal involving the Dodgers and Cardinals, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports. The Dodgers acquired utility man Tommy Edman (wrist) and right-handers Michael Kopech and Oliver Gonzalez, while the Cardinals received right-hander Erick Fedde, outfielder Tommy Pham and a player to be named later or cash considerations. Vargas should have a clear path to playing time clear in Chicago, where he could return to his more familiar spot at second base after the Dodgers used him exclusively in the corner outfield this season. The 24-year-old carries a .658 OPS over parts of three major-league seasons, but Vargas is a career .308/.396/.493 hitter during his time in the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Could play third base
Manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Vargas could play third base as soon as Sunday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. The Dodgers are dealing with a plethora of injuries in the infield, with Mookie Betts (hand), Max Muncy (oblique), Miguel Rojas (forearm) and Chris Taylor (groin) all on the IL while Freddie Freeman was placed on the family emergency list Saturday. Vargas has primarily played left field for the Dodgers this season but with the team shorthanded, he could see some action at third base. Vargas has a .745 OPS this season with three homers in 79 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less
