Tigers' Casey Mize: Not on ALDS roster
Mize isn't included on the Tigers' ALDS roster.
Mize was a starter for Detroit for much of the campaign but moved to the bullpen for his final two appearances of the regular season. The right-hander struggled in that role, giving up three runs over 3.1 innings, which may have contributed to the Tigers' decision to make him inactive for the division series. Keider Montero was added to the team's ALDS roster after being inactive for the wild-card series versus Houston.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Pitches in relief Thursday
Mize allowed one run on three hits across two innings of relief in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Rays. He struck out four.
Detroit started Reese Olson, who covered just four innings in his third game back from a shoulder injury. Mize then worked the middle of the contest and was fairly sharp overall, particularly with the four strikeouts. Detroit appears headed to the postseason, and it remains to be seen how Mize will be used. The 27-year-old missed two months with a hamstring injury this year, which contributed to an uneven campaign and a 4.37 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 101 innings. However, at his best, Mize could give the Tigers a decent starting option to pair with staff ace Tarik Skubal during a playoff run.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Available in relief Sunday
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Mize will be available in relief Sunday in Baltimore but will likely receive another traditional start during the upcoming week, possibly against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Sunday is Mize's turn in the rotation, but the Tigers will go with an opener in Tyler Holton, with Mize or Ty Madden expected to come in after Holton in bulk relief. All 20 of Mize's appearances so far this season have been starts.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Escapes with no-decision Tuesday
Mize came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 3-1 extra-inning win over the Royals, allowing one run on six hits and four walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out three.
Kansas City put runners on base in every inning against Mize, but three double plays turned by the Detroit infield helped stifle the rallies. The right-hander has failed to complete five innings in back-to-back starts, and since rejoining the rotation in late August, Mize has a 4.87 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB through 20.1 innings. He'll look for his first win since June 30 in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rays.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Can't hang on for win
Mize came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Rockies, giving up four runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven without walking a batter.
The Tigers staked Mize to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the right-hander couldn't get out of the fifth to qualify for the win, exiting after 66 pitches (47 strikes). Mize's performance since returning from a two-month absence due to a hamstring injury has been a mixed bag -- over three starts and 16 innings, he's posted a 5.63 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB while serving up four homers. He lines up to make his next trip to the mound on the road early next week in Kansas City.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Allows two homers in no-decision
Mize did not factor into the decision in a win over the Padres on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over 5.1 innings while striking out two.
Mize got off to a rough start, allowing the leadoff man to reach in each of the first two innings while also surrendering two home runs over that span. However, he would finish strong before being relieved by Kenta Maeda with one out in the sixth. Mize has allowed three runs in each of his first two starts since returning from the injured list, though he's managed to get through at least five frames in each of those outings while posting a combined 6:2 K:BB. He'll look to secure his third win of the season next week when the Tigers host Colorado.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Goes six innings in return
Mize didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Red Sox, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.
While his final line wasn't great, Mize was efficient in his first start in two months after recovering from a hamstring strain, making it through six innings on just 85 pitches. Overall, the right-hander is 2-6 with a 4.36 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 62:22 K:BB in 17 starts (84.2 innings) this season. Mize will look for a better result in his next outing, currently lined up for next week in San Diego.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Activated, starting Friday
The Tigers activated Mize (hamstring) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Mize missed two months of action with a strained hamstring but is ready to rejoin the Tigers rotation with a start Friday against the Red Sox. The right-hander looked good in four rehab starts with Triple-A Toledo, posting a 2.63 ERA and 17:4 K:BB across 13.2 frames. He threw 78 pitches in his final rehab outing, so Mize should be available for close to a full workload Friday. He holds a 4.23 ERA and 58:21 K:BB in 78.2 innings covering 16 starts for Detroit this season.
