Sheets went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, a walk and two total runs scored in Saturday's 8-7 loss to the Diamondbacks. Sheets has hit safely in five straight games, going 7-for-18 (.389) in that span. The homer was his first since May 28 versus the Marlins. The 29-year-old is up to 12 long balls on the season, which is already the second-highest mark in his five-year career. He's added a .261/.318/.477 slash line with 40 RBI, 25 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple and one stolen base across 66 games.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Gavin Sheets: Plates four runs Wednesday
Sheets went 2-for-5 with a triple and four RBI in a loss to San Francisco on Wednesday. Sheets got the scoring started with a two-run triple -- just the second three-bagger of his career -- in the first inning. He added a two-run single in the fifth to give the Padres a 5-0 lead, but those were the final runs the team scored. Sheets was pulled early from Sunday's game against Pittsburgh after colliding with the outfield wall, but he seems to be fine now, as he's started the Padres' past two contests. He's up to 38 RBI through 57 games this year, just 15 short of the career-high 53 RBI he produced across 124 contests in 2022 with the White Sox.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Back in lineup
Sheets (head) will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth in Tuesday's game against the Giants. Sheets missed a start Monday after colliding with the outfield wall Sunday, though he appeared as a pinch hitter during Monday's game. Now fully recovered, he'll aim to bounce back after going 2-for-18 across his last seven games.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Pinch hits Monday
Sheets (head/hip/wrist/thumb) grounded out as a pinch hitter in Monday's 1-0 win over the Giants. Per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Sheets was evaluated for a head bruise, hip soreness and wrist/thumb soreness after colliding with the outfield wall Sunday against Pittsburgh. The veteran slugger was also evaluated for a concussion, though he appears to have passed through protocol given his ability to enter as a pinch hitter Monday. Sheets said prior to the game against San Francisco that he expects to avoid being placed on the IL, and the pinch-hit appearance similarly suggests that such a stint won't be needed.... See More ... Padres' Gavin Sheets: Out of Monday's lineup
Sheets (undisclosed) is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Giants. Sheets was forced from Sunday's game against the Pirates after colliding with the outfield wall. He was set to be evaluated for various injuries, and it's not clear at this point whether a trip to the 10-day IL is on the table. Tyler Wade is in left field and batting seventh for the Padres on Monday, and Sheets noted before the game that he'll be available off the bench if called upon, per Dennis Lin of The Athletic.... Padres' Gavin Sheets: Exits early after collision
Sheets (undisclosed) exited Sunday's contest versus the Pirates in the top of the fourth inning after colliding with the outfield wall, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Sheets slammed into the wall while trying to track a flyball from Adam Frazier, which went over the fence for a solo home run. The 29-year-old was removed from the game after remaining down for several moments, being replaced in left field by Brandon Lockridge. More information on his status will likely be provided in the near future.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Homers in loss
Sheets went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 10-8 loss to the Marlins. Sheets got the scoring started with an RBI single in the first inning and later gave the Padres an 8-7 lead with a two-run home run in the seventh. The 29-year-old has been on a power binge over his last 10 games, homering five times with 11 RBI. He's been a pleasant surprise so far this season, slashing .275/.324/.509 with 11 long balls, 34 RBI, 23 runs scored and a stolen base across 185 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Slugs 10th homer
Sheets went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Sunday's 5-3 victory over Atlanta. The 29-year-old reached double-digit home runs for the fifth consecutive season with a 423-foot blast off Atlanta starter Spencer Schwellenbach in the sixth inning. Sheets has been a steady power bat in May so far, hitting .307 (23-for-75) with seven homers, 19 RBI and 11 runs scored across 20 games. Although he posted four straight years of 10-plus homers with the White Sox, Sheets is breaking out this year in San Diego with a .283/.327/.517 slash line through 171 plate appearances.... Padres' Gavin Sheets: Belts another home run
Sheets went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 2-1 win over Atlanta. Coming off a two-homer performance against the Blue Jays on Thursday, Sheets showed off his power again Friday with a solo long shot off Chris Sale in the second inning. Sheets is up to nine home runs on the season, six of which have come since the beginning of May. Over that span, he has slashed .313/.333/.627 with 10 runs scored and 17 RBI in 69 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Monster five RBI performance
Sheets went 3-for-5 with two home runs and drove five RBI during Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays in 11 innings. Sheets put the team on his back Thursday and nearly led the Padres to a win by knocking in five of the team's six runs, including a game-tying, two-run home run in the top of the ninth to push the game to extras. The 29-year-old has shown a penchant for getting RBIs in bunches, with Thursday being his fourth game of three or more RBI, accounting for 16 of his 28 on the season. The fifth-year big-leaguer is well on his way to shattering his previous career high of 53 RBI, which he set in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Supplies lone run in loss
Sheets went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Mariners. Sheets has hit well in May, going 16-for-47 (.340) over 13 contests this month. He opened the scoring Saturday with a solo shot off Emerson Hancock in the fourth inning. Sheets is up to six homers, 23 RBI, 17 runs scored, one stolen base and a .290/.343/.481 slash line over 41 games. He continues to share designated hitter and first base with Luis Arraez, with most of Sheets' off days coming versus left-handed pitchers.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Homers, plates three in romp
Sheets went 3-for-6 with a home run, a double, two total runs and three total RBI in a 21-0 rout of the Rockies on Saturday. Sheets capped a five-run San Diego first inning with a 439-foot, two-run blast to right-center field, and he added an RBI double in the eighth frame to conclude a huge offensive day for the team. The veteran slugger has seven RBI over his past two games, exceeding the total he had accumulated over his previous 20 contests combined. Sheets is thriving in his first year with the Padres, slashing .296/.353/.500 with five long balls, 21 RBI, 15 runs and a stolen base through 119 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Piles up four RBI vs. Rockies
Sheets went 2-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and a run scored in Friday's 13-9 win over Colorado. Sheets matched a season high with four RBI, and it was his third multi-hit game already this month. While he went just 1-for-23 to close out April, the 29-year-old slugger is batting .389 with one home run and six RBI over 18 at-bats in May. The lefty-hitting Sheets routinely sees the bench against left-handed pitchers, which restricts his overall fantasy upside, but he's hitting .299 with four long balls, five doubles, 17 RBI and eight walks over 87 at-bats versus right-handed pitching.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Idle against lefty
Sheets is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. With the Padres facing a left-handed starting pitcher (Carlos Rodon) for the third game in a row, the lefty-hitting Sheets will remain on the bench. Luis Campusano will get another turn as the Padres' designated hitter in place of Sheets.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Sitting against lefty again
Sheets is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. The left-handed-hitting Sheets will remain on the bench for the second day in a row while the Pirates send another lefty (Andrew Heaney) to the bump. Luis Campusano will replace Sheets as the Padres' designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Taking seat Saturday
Sheets isn't in the Padres' lineup for Saturday's matchup versus Pittsburgh. The lefty-hitting Sheets will begin Saturday's game on the bench with Pittsburgh sending southpaw Bailey Falter to the mound. Sheets has just 10 at-bats against left-handed pitchers this season, going 2-for-10 with a double, an RBI, a walk and four strikeouts. With Sheets out of the lineup, Luis Campusano -- who was called up from Triple-A earlier in the day -- is getting a turn at DH.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Goes deep in three-hit game
Sheets went 3-for-5 with a home run and an additional RBI in Friday's 9-4 victory versus Pittsburgh. Sheets put the Padres on the board in the fourth inning with a solo shot to right-center field and added a run-scoring single in the fifth. The three-hit effort came on the heels of a seven-game slump during which the veteran infielder/outfielder went 1-for-23 with three strikeouts. Sheets has collected hits in bunches this season -- he has more multi-hit performances (nine) than contests with one hit (five). Overall, he's slashing .281/.343/.461 with four home runs, 14 RBI, 11 runs and one stolen base over 99 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Hits homer after moving up in order
Sheets went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to Detroit on Monday. For the first time this season, Sheets began the game in the top- third of San Diego's order -- he batted in the No. 2 slot behind Fernando Tatis. The veteran first baseman proved to be a good fit there, as he reached base twice, including with a solo shot to left-center in the fifth inning. Sheets' move up the order was largely due to the absence of Luis Arraez, who was placed on the 7-day concussion IL on Monday. Sheets has done plenty with the bat to deserve being pushed up higher in the lineup, though, as he's slashing .344/.388/.557 with three home runs, 12 RBI, seven runs and a stolen base through 67 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Getting day off against lefty
Sheets is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. With the Cubs sending southpaw Matthew Boyd to the bump, the left-handed-hitting Sheets will retreat to the bench. Luis Arraez will replace Sheets in the lineup as San Diego's designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Idle versus southpaw
Sheets is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Rockies on Sunday. With Colorado sending southpaw Kyle Freeland to the mound, Sheets will retreat to the dugout while Luis Arraez serves as the designated hitter. Sheets has gone 2-for-5 with two walks and a solo homer in the first two games of the series.... See More ... See Less
