Rays' Christopher Morel: Getting breather Thursday
Morel isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Morel will get a chance to catch his breath Thursday after making 10 consecutive starts, during which he slashed .289/.341/.447 over 41 plate appearances. His absence will give Richie Palacios (finger) a chance to make his season debut in left field after spending the first several weeks of the season on the injured list.

Morel has been a full-time player for the Rays since Jonny DeLuca (shoulder) last appeared on April 6. Morel has made the most of the opportunity, starting eight consecutive games and batting .323 (10-for-31) with a homer, three doubles, five RBI and five runs scored.

It was Morel's second multi-hit game of the year, and he's logged a hit in five of his last seven outings, during which he's gone 7-for-23 with four runs scored, two walks, one home run and two RBI.

Rays' Christopher Morel: Reaches base four times
Morel went 2-for-2 with two walks Saturday against the Rockies.
Morel had only a .547 OPS across 190 plate appearances with the Rays in 2024, putting his playing time in doubt entering the new campaign. He's started both of the Rays' games to this point, though a prolonged slump could put his plate appearances in jeopardy.

Rays' Christopher Morel: Projected to start in left field
Morel is projected to begin the 2025 season as the Rays' starting left fielder, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Morel was dealt to the Rays in late July and subsequently started 31 games. Only 11 of those came in left field as compared to 20 at third base. However, with Junior Caminero all but certain to be a mainstay at the hot corner, Morel will be forced to a new defensive home. He could also face some pressure for playing time from Richie Palacios or even Eloy Jimenez if he cannot improve upon the .547 OPS that he posted across 190 plate appearances with the team in 2024.
