The Athletics transferred Hoglund (hip) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Jack Perkins, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas. Hoglund is slated to miss the rest of the season after he underwent surgery on his left hip June 13.... See More ... See Less

Athletics' Gunnar Hoglund: Lands on injured list
Hoglund was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a left hip impingement. Hoglund was torched for eight runs on 10 hits in his previous start Saturday, though it's unclear if he suffered the injury during this outing or if this is an issue he's been dealing with for some time. Elvis Alvarado was promoted to the big leagues in one of the team's corresponding moves, but another move is presumably in the works considering Alvarado hasn't made a start this year.... Athletics' Gunnar Hoglund: Loses again Tuesday
Hoglund (1-2) allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Angels. Hoglund continues to have trouble with the long ball -- he allowed two home runs Tuesday after giving up three of them in his previous start against the Dodgers. The 25-year-old appeared to run out of steam in the fifth inning, squandering the lead the Athletics had generated in the fourth. Hoglund is now at a 5.06 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB across 21.1 innings over four starts. His next start is tentatively projected to be at home versus the Phillies this weekend. Despite his struggles, Hoglund should have a little security in the rotation for the rest of the month after J.T. Ginn (quadriceps) returned to the injured list Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Gunnar Hoglund: Remains in rotation
Hoglund is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Mariners in Sacramento. The 25-year-old righty will be awarded a second turn through the rotation following an excellent MLB debut this past Friday, when he limited the Marlins to one earned run on six hits and no walks while striking out seven over six innings en route to picking up the win. Oakland will likely have a spot in the rotation available for Hoglund as long as J.T. Ginn (elbow) remains on the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Gunnar Hoglund: Shines in major-league debut
Hoglund (1-0) earned the win Friday against Miami after allowing one run on six hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out seven. Making his major-league debut, the 2021 first-rounder mostly cruised through Miami's lineup. Dane Myers took Hoglund deep for a solo homer to lead off the sixth inning, but the Athletics took a 6-0 lead in the fifth to give Hoglund plenty of cushion. The right-hander produced a 2.43 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 30:7 K:BB over 29.2 innings at Triple-A Las Vegas this year, and he almost certainly earned another chance in the rotation with Friday's impressive performance. Hoglund's next turn lines up for next week in a tough test versus the Mariners.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Gunnar Hoglund: Due to join big club
The Athletics plan to recall Hoglund from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Friday's game against the Marlins, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports. Hoglund has been dominant through six starts in Triple-A, logging a 2.43 ERA and 1.06 WHIP alongside a 30:7 K:BB across 29.2 innings. Thanks to his success, the 25-year-old righty will now come up from the minors to help out an Athletics rotation that owns a 4.66 ERA on the year.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Gunnar Hoglund: Sent to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Hoglund to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. Hoglund was one of 13 players the Athletics reassigned or optioned to minor-league camp Monday in the club's latest round of roster cuts. The Athletics added the 25-year-old right-hander to their 40-man roster in November following a 2024 season in which he turned in a 3.44 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 119:37 K:BB in 130.2 innings at Las Vegas.... Blue Jays' Gunnar Hoglund: Headed to Oakland
Hoglund was traded from the Blue Jays to the Athletics on Wednesday along with Kevin Smith, Zach Logue and Kirby Snead in exchange for Matt Chapman, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. The 22-year-old righty once had a chance to be the first overall pick in 2021, but he needed Tommy John surgery in May of 2021, so he fell to the Blue Jays at pick 19. Hoglund could return to game action sometime this summer and immediately slots in as one of Oakland's top pitching prospects.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Gunnar Hoglund: Nearing mound work
Hoglund (elbow) has been throwing off flat ground for four months and hopes to advance to mound work soon, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Hoglund was selected by the Blue Jays with the 19th pick in last year's draft despite the fact he'd undergone Tommy John surgery in May. He appears to be recovering on schedule and has been able to throw from 120 feet, but he'll need to stretch out to 150 feet before he gets back on a mound. A typical recovery timeline would see him miss the early part of the upcoming season, but he should be able to make his professional debut at some point over the summer.... See More ... See Less
