  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Progressing slowly

Rockies manager Bud Black said Monday that Tovar (hip) is "not progressing as we'd hoped" and still might be 7-to-10 days away from being activated from the 10-day injured list, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Tovar is working his way back from a left hip contusion, and Black said that the shortstop is having problems hinging his hips when fielding grounders. The Rockies had been expecting Tovar to return to action at the beginning of May, but he will need a little more time than that. With Aaron Schunk (groin) also recently landing on the IL, the Rockies have been using Kyle Farmer and Alan Trejo at shortstop.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Returning in early May

Manager Bud Black said Saturday that Tovar (hip) is 7-to-10 days from returning, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Tovar was placed on the 10-day IL on April 19 with a hip contusion. The Rockies were already down Thairo Estrada (wrist) in the middle infield, and Aaron Schunk (groin) landed on the shelf Saturday. In the meantime, Kyle Farmer and Adael Amador figure to play regularly in the middle infield.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Lands on IL with hip contusion

The Rockies placed Tovar on the 10-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to April 16, due to a left hip contusion.

Tovar was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Dodgers due to the left hip injury. The issue is severe enough to warrant a stint on the injured list, and how he responds to treatment over the coming days will help determine his timeline for a return. Aaron Schunk's contract was selected from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move, and he'll start at shortstop and bat ninth against the Nationals on Saturday. Kyle Farmer could also see some playing time at shortstop while Tovar is sidelined.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Scratched from lineup

Tovar was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers due to left hip pain, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

The severity of Tovar's injury remains unknown, but it's enough to prevent him from playing in Wednesday's contest. Kyle Farmer will shift to shortstop while Tovar rests, opening up second base for Adael Amador.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Starting Friday

Tovar (hip) is starting at shortstop and batting third against the Padres on Friday.

Tovar was held out of Thursday's game against the Brewers due to a nagging hip issue, but he's back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against Padres right-hander Nick Pivetta. Tovar has started the season slashing .277/.306/.404 with two stolen bases, four doubles and four RBI across 49 plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Held out with hip issue

Rockies manager Bud Black said that Tovar is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers due to a hip issue, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Black noted that while the hip problem has nagged at Tovar for a bit, the club does not think it's serious. The Rockies begin a road trip Friday in San Diego, and Tovar looks like he has a chance to be back in the lineup at that time. Kyle Farmer will start at shortstop Thursday.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Resting for matinee game

Tovar is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers.

Tovar will get his first day off of the season after he played all nine innings Wednesday night in the Rockies' 17-2 loss. Kyle Farmer will slide over from second base to cover Tovar's usual post at shortstop.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Posts four hits in win

Tovar went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a steal, three RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's win over the Athletics.

Tovar swiped his first bag of the campaign and also plated some runs for the first time since the season opener. He had a productive home-opening series, going 8-for-15 with three doubles, a triple, three RBI and four runs scored. He'll look to stay hot with the Diamondbacks coming to town to begin the new week.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Slow start to campaign

Tovar went 0-for-4 and was caught stealing Thursday against the Phillies.

The Rockies' offense has gotten off to a slow start this season, and Tovar has played a role in those struggles. He's now failed to record a hit in three straight starts and is just 3-for-24 overall. Positively, the team will begin a six-game homestand Friday, so Tovar will have favorable conditions to turn things around this week.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Back in action Friday

Tovar (triceps) will start at shortstop and bat second in Friday's Cactus League game versus the Rangers.

Tovar was removed from Wednesday's contest against the Padres after being hit on the left triceps by a pitch, but he's fine and back out there after a day of rest. The young shortstop is 4-for-17 with three doubles at the dish so far this spring.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Exits game due to triceps injury

Tovar left Wednesday's spring game against the Padres due to a left triceps contusion, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Tovar had his left arm hit by a pitch from Michael King in the first inning and was replaced by Owen Miller in the third frame. Tovar's removal likely precautionary, and it wouldn't be surprising if he returns to action after Thursdays team off day. The 23-year-old shortstop is coming off a strong 2024 season in which he slashed .269/.295/.469 with 26 home runs and 78 RBI across 694 plate appearances.
