  • Reds' Austin Hays: To hit Saturday

Hays (foot) is expected to hit on the field Saturday, MLB.com reports. Hays ran arcs in the outfield for a second straight day Friday as part of a running progression. After hitting Saturday, the next step will be to run the bases Sunday.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Resumes running progression

Hays (foot) resumed a running progression Thursday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Hays was shut down from running last week due to lingering soreness in his injured left foot. He's ready to ramp back up again, but the Reds will bring him along more slowly this time. Hays has been shelved since late May with a bone bruise in his foot.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Temporarily shut down from running

Hays (foot) will be shut down from running for a few days until pain subsides, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Hays' recovery from a deep bone bruise in his left foot has slowed recently, and lingering pain will prevent him from running for a few days. Encouragingly, Hays' MRI on Wednesday came back negative, but he hasn't made any progress since the tests. He has been on the shelf since May 30.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Recovery stalled

Hays underwent another MRI on his injured left foot Wednesday that came back negative, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. While he doesn't have any fractures, Hays is dealing with persistent discomfort due to a deep bone bruise. The initial hope was that Hays could return before the end of this week's series in Cleveland, but now his status is up in the air. He will be re-evaluated Friday.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Running postponed

Hays (foot) had a final running test Monday postponed one day due to weather, MLB.com reports. Instead of testing his foot Monday, Hays will now run Tuesday to get a sense of the injury's status. If all goes well, Hays could be activated within a couple of days.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Could return this week

Hays (foot) is eyeing a possible return from the 10-day injured list by the end of the Reds' series against the Guardians this week, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Cincinnati opens a three-game set with Cleveland on Monday. Hays has been sidelined with a bruised foot since May 28. This is his third stint on the 10-day IL this season. When healthy, Hays has been one of the Reds' most-productive hitters, slashing .303/.346/.555 with six home runs, 25 RBI, 23 runs scored and two stolen bases across 130 plate appearances.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Could resume running late this week

Hays (foot) could be cleared to resume running later this week, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. Hays just recently shed his walking foot and began baseball activities as he recovers from a left foot contusion, and he could take another step in his rehab in a few days. The outfielder has dealt with multiple soft-tissue injuries this season, so the Reds are proceeding cautiously with the outfielder.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Out of walking boot

Hays (foot) shed his walking boot and has resumed baseball activities, MLB.com reports. Hays is hitting and throwing but not yet running after fouling a ball off his foot May 29; however, he is allowed to run in a pool. The outfielder is projected to return after a minimum 10-day stint on the injured list -- Hays' third stint on the IL this season. His job in left field is being filled primarily by Will Benson or Gavin Lux against righties and Garrett Hampson against lefties.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Lands on injured list

The Reds placed Hays on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to May 29, due to a left foot contusion. The veteran outfielder fouled a pitch off his left foot Wednesday and is headed to the injured list for the third time this season. This latest issue doesn't appear to be a serious concern, so it's possible Hays will be ready to be activated when first eligible June 8. Jake Fraley (calf) was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Leaves game with foot injury

Hays was removed from Wednesday's game after fouling a ball off his foot, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Hays fouled a pitch off his left foot in the sixth inning and was pulled for a pinch hitter two innings later. Gavin Lux entered as the pinch hitter and remained in the game at DH. Hays has already made two trips to the injured list in 2025.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Homers in win

Hays went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Friday's 5-4 win over Cleveland. Hays' third-inning homer, which gave the Reds a 5-0 lead, turned out to be the game-winning hit. It was his sixth home run and first since coming off the injured list a week ago. After serving as the DH early in his return, Hays has played left field in three of his last four outings.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Serves as DH again

Hays went 0-for-4 in Sunday's 6-0 loss to Houston. Hays, who was given a rest day Saturday, returned to the lineup as the designated hitter. It was his second start since being activated off the injured list Friday, with both starts coming at DH. He's bounced between left field and DH, but with two leg injuries already this season, manager Terry Francona may manage him carefully and not expose him too much in the field. Hays has gotten off to a nice start, batting .328 with five home runs and 13 RBI through 16 games.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Idle Saturday

Hays isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros. Hays went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts Friday during his return from the injured list. He'll step aside Saturday while Connor Joe makes his Reds debut in left field and bats ninth.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Returns to action

Hays served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Astros. Hays missed the minimum 10 days on the injured list with a hamstring injury and did not require a rehab assignment. As was the case prior to his injury, Hays will bounce between DH and left field.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Back from injured list

The Reds activated Hays (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. Hays spent the minimum 10 days on the injured list and is ready to return to the lineup for Cincinnati. Prior to his injury, Hays was slashing an impressive .365/.431/.712 with five home runs, 13 RBI, 15 runs scored, one steal and a 6:13 BB:K across 58 plate appearances.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Might return Friday

Reds manager Terry Francona said Monday that Hays (hamstring) is progressing well and could be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. Hays has been shelved for the past week with a left hamstring strain, but he seems to be trending toward skipping a rehab assignment and returning later this week. The 29-year-old has been limited to only 13 games this season due to injury but has slashed .365/.431/.712 with five homers in those contests.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Out with hamstring strain

The Reds placed Hays on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to April 29, due to a left hamstring strain. The 29-year-old hasn't seen the field since Monday due to the hamstring issue, and he'll be sidelined for at least another week after being diagnosed with a strain. Hays has delivered a .365/.431/.712 slash line with five homers through the first month of the season, but this is already his second stint on the injured list after missing the start of the campaign due to a calf strain.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Remains out of lineup

Hays (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals. Hays will be on the bench for a fourth straight game due to a sore left hamstring, which he tweaked while running the bases Monday. He underwent an MRI on Tuesday that apparently revealed nothing too concerning, and Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News relayed that Hays was testing his hamstring during an on-field workout prior to Thursday's contest. The Reds will presumably look to stay away from using Hays on Thursday, but the 29-year-old could return to the lineup during this weekend's series with the Nationals.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Expected to avoid IL

Manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that an MRI on Hays' hamstring revealed some minor results, but the Reds are "exploring" not having the outfielder go on the injured list with the hope he's able to play after a few days of rest, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. Hays is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals, and he looks safe to rule out for Game 2 as well. The Reds are still seemingly viewing Hays as day-to-day while he manages the hamstring issue and will wait and see how he responds to getting the day off. Cincinnati called up Tyler Callihan from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday and will have him start in left field in Hays' place in Game 1 of the twin bill.

  • Reds' Austin Hays: Having hamstring examined

Manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that Hays has a "tender" hamstring and will undergo further testing, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. Hays went 0-for-3 at the plate with a walk and run scored in Monday's win over the Cardinals and played the entire contest. It's unclear when he may have suffered the injury, but Hays is out of the lineup Tuesday and should be considered day-to-day for the time being.
