  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Crushed by Arizona

Gomber (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Rockies fell 14-8 to the Diamondbacks, coughing up nine runs on 12 hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He failed to strike out a batter. After a strong season debut Sunday in his return from a shoulder injury, Gomber got caught up in a classic Coors Field barn burner. Half the hits off the southpaw went for extra bases, including homers by Ketel Marte, Eugenio Suarez and Ildemaro Vargas, and he managed only four swinging strikes among his 81 pitches (57 total strikes). Gomber's next start is scheduled to come on the road next week, but the matchup won't get any easier as he faces the Dodgers.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Sharp in season debut

Gomber allowed two hits and a walk over five scoreless innings Sunday in a no-decision against Atlanta. He struck out four. It was an impressive return to the mound for Gomber, who gave up just two singles in an eventual 10-1 Rockies victory. The left-hander missed over two months after suffering a shoulder injury in spring training. Gomber made 30 starts for Colorado last season, going 5-12 with a 4.75 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 116 strikeouts. He's tentatively lined up to face the Diamondbacks at home in his second outing.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Reinstated ahead of start

The Rockies reinstated Gomber (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday in Atlanta. Gomber will be making his 2025 debut after suffering a left shoulder injury in spring training and then experiencing a setback during a March 28 rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque. He was cleared to resume his rehab assignment June 4, and after covering four innings in starts with Double-A Hartford and Albuquerque, Gomber is ready to slot back into the Colorado rotation. The southpaw tossed 69 pitches during his most recent appearance Tuesday and could be capped at around 80 or 90 pitches Sunday.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: In line for '25 debut Sunday

The Rockies plan to activate Gomber (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list to have him start Sunday in Atlanta, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Colorado's decision to option No. 5 starter Carson Palmquist to Triple-A Albuquerque earlier Thursday seemed to signal that Gomber was on track to rejoin the rotation, and the 31-year-old has now been confirmed to make his 2025 debut with Colorado this weekend. After experiencing shoulder soreness in spring training, Gomber was expected to be in line for a brief absence to begin the season, but he had a setback coming out of a March 28 rehab outing with Albuquerque that extended his stay on the IL. He was cleared to resume his assignment earlier this month and has looked sharp in his starts with Double-A Hartford and Albuquerque, covering eight innings and striking out eight while allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks between those two outings. He tossed 69 pitches in his latest appearance Tuesday and should be ready to handle something close to a typical starter's workload Sunday.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Excels in latest rehab start

Gomber (shoulder) struck out five and allowed one unearned run on one hit and three walks in his rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. After resuming his rehab assignment June 4 with Double-A Hartford and tossing four innings of one-run ball, Gomber moved up a level for his second outing and delivered another sharp performance. He built up to 69 pitches in the start, and he looks like he could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list to make his 2025 debut with the Rockies as soon as this Sunday in Atlanta. Per MLB.com, Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer said the Rockies are still deciding on Gomber's next steps, but the veteran southpaw seems likely to rejoin the big club if he fares well in his between-starts bullpen session Friday.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Sharp in rehab start

Gomber (shoulder) struck out three and allowed one earned run on two hits and no walks over four innings in his rehab start for Double-A Hartford on Wednesday. Gomber's appearance was his first at any level since March 28, when he made a rehab start in Triple-A Albuquerque's season opener before experiencing a setback in his recovery from left shoulder soreness. The left-hander checked out fine coming out of Wednesday's start, and after completing a bullpen session at Coors Field on Saturday, he's set to report to Albuquerque for his next rehab outing Tuesday. Gomber is expected to cover 65 pitches Tuesday, and if all goes well, he could be a candidate to return from the 60-day injured list and make his season debut with the Rockies.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Set to resume rehab assignment

Gomber (shoulder) will resume a rehab assignment with Double-A Hartford on Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Gomber came down with soreness in his pitching shoulder during spring training and then had to be pulled off his initial rehab assignment in late March when the discomfort resurfaced. However, the southpaw is now ready to give it another try. He could rejoin the Rockies' rotation later this month if all goes well.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Throws off mound Tuesday

Gomber (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. This appears to be the first time Gomber has thrown off a mound since being shut down from his rehab assignment in early April. The left-hander said afterward that his session went well, and the Rockies plan to have him throw a few more bullpens in the near future before having him face live hitters.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Resumes throwing

Gomber (shoulder) has increased the volume and distance of his throws, MLB.com reports. Gomber suffered a shoulder injury early in spring training and dealt with a setback, pushing his timeline back. He's now ramping up for the second time but has yet to throw off a mound, meaning he's likely to be out until at least mid-June.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Yet to resume throwing

Rockies manager Bud Black said Monday that Gomber (shoulder) has not thrown since making a rehab start for Triple-A Albuquerque on March 28, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. Gomber made one rehab start before being shut down with renewed left shoulder soreness. Black added that the southpaw is feeling better and is close to beginning a throwing program, but there's no timetable for him to return from the 60-day injured list.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Moved to 60-day IL

The Rockies transferred Gomber (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Saturday. Gomber began the season on the 15-day IL due to left shoulder inflammation. He made one rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on April 1, but he was scratched from his next scheduled start after suffering a setback and has been shut down from throwing ever since. Gomber's transfer to the 60-day IL means the veteran southpaw won't be eligible to be activated to the Rockies' roster until late May, but a timeline for his return won't be known until he resumes his throwing program.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Shut down for week or more

Gomber (shoulder) won't throw for at least a week and won't pitch in a game for 2-to-3 weeks, MLB.com reports. Gomber was scratched from a scheduled rehab start with Triple-A Albuerque on Wednesday after experiencing soreness in his left shoulder. The veteran lefty began the season on the injured list, and given his current shutdown from throwing, it's unlikely he'll be ready to join Colorado's rotation until at least May. Gomber will need to log more rehab starts before he's ready to be activated, and Colorado probably won't be able to put together a timeline for his return until he's able to resume a throwing program.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Scratched from rehab start

Gomber was scratched from his scheduled rehab start at Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday due to left shoulder inflammation, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Gomber began the season on the 15-day IL due to left shoulder soreness, so the fact that he's now dealing with inflammation in that area is a bit concerning. He'll presumably be re-evaluated to see if he suffered any structural damage after making his first rehab outing Friday, and it now seems unlikely that the 31-year-old southpaw will be able to return to Colorado after a minimum-length stay on the injured list.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Strikes out five in rehab start

Gomber (shoulder) struck out five batters and allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks over four innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday. While tending to a sore left shoulder in spring training, Gomber didn't have enough time to get fully stretched out in advance of the Rockies' season opener and was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, but he was cleared to take the hill for Colorado's Triple-A affiliate on Opening Day. He tossed 66 pitches (39 strikes) in the rehab start, so he may need just one more tune-up outing with the Triple-A club Wednesday before getting the green light to return from the IL next week.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Throws 3.2 innings

Gomber (shoulder) completed 3.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits, in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. Gomber made his first official Cactus League appearance since Feb. 25 as he continues to return from a sore shoulder. He's likely to begin the season on the injured list as he continues to build up his pitch count, but Saturday's outing was a positive indication that he will be able to return at some point in mid-April.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Set for Saturday start

Gomber (shoulder) will start Saturday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. Gomber has been sidelined by a sore shoulder since early March, and the team announced Thursday that he will begin the season on the injured list. He'll reportedly be ready for his debut by mid-April, and the fact that he'll take the mound Saturday supports a quick return to action.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Poised to open season on IL

Gomber (shoulder) will begin the season on the 15-day injured list, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. Gomber is recovering well from left shoulder soreness, but he's made just one appearance this spring and that was back on Feb. 25. The left-hander is expected to be ready to rejoin the Rockies' rotation early on in the season. Colorado will operation with a four-man rotation until Gomber is ready.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Bouncing back from sore shoulder

Gomber was scratched from his scheduled Cactus League start Sunday against the Mariners due to left shoulder soreness, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. The southpaw said that his arm speed isn't at the level he wants it to be at this time of the spring, but he didn't express any major concern about the shoulder issue preventing him from being ready for Opening Day. Assuming he misses just one turn through the spring rotation, Gomber should have plenty of time to ramp up and complete his throwing progression before the March 28 season opener versus the Rays.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Avoids arbitration with Colorado

The Rockies and Gomber avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $6.35 million contract Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Gomber will more than double his salary from 2024 in what was his third year of arbitration eligibility. The left-hander put up a 4.75 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 116:38 K:BB over a career-high 165 innings for the Rockies in 2024 and will be part of their rotation again in 2025.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Drops to 5-12

Gomber (5-12) took the loss against St. Louis on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three batters over five innings. Gomber kept the ball in the park after serving up three homers in his previous outing, but he was still far less than sharp. The veteran left-hander gave up at least four runs in three of his final six starts and went 1-4 over that span. Assuming Wednesday was his final start of the season, Gomber will finish the 2024 campaign with an uninspiring 4.75 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 116:38 K:BB over 165 innings.
