  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Collects three hits

Perez went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double during Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Giants.

Perez fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, including a fourth-inning homer off Logan Webb to put the Royals up 6-1. The catcher's long ball was his first since April 13, a shockingly long drought for the power-hitting backstop, who hit 121 combined homers in the previous four seasons. In 199 plate appearances this year, Perez is slashing .223/.258/.346 with three home runs, 14 doubles and 23 RBI.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Returning to lineup Sunday

Perez (hip) will serve as the Royals' designated hitter and bat cleanup in Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Kansas City held Perez out of the lineup for the first two games of the series due to a sore left hip he sustained Thursday, but the 34-year-old has evidently displayed enough improvement to make his return. The Royals haven't indicated when Perez might be ready to resume full-time duties behind the plate, however, so he could be confined to the DH spot for a few more games. Luke Maile, who's getting the start Sunday, and Freddy Fermin will pick up more work at catcher until Perez is deemed ready to play defense.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Not starting Saturday

Perez (hip) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles.

Perez will miss a second consecutive game Saturday after leaving Thursday's contest due to left hip soreness. Freddy Fermin will get the nod at catcher and bat eighth, and Cavan Biggio will work as Kansas City's designated hitter while batting seventh.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Out of lineup Friday

Perez (hip) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles.

Perez exited Thursday's game against the Rays with left hip soreness and will get at least one day off. With Perez sits, Freddy Fermin will catch and bat eighth, while Mark Canha starts at designated hitter and hits sixth for Kansas City.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Exits game with hip soreness

Perez was removed from Thursday's game against the Rays due to left hip soreness, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

It's not clear when or how Perez was hurt, but he was pinch-hit for by Cavan Biggio in the top of the sixth inning. Consider Perez day-to-day for now, but the Royals should offer more clarity on his status after the game. He had an RBI double in one of his three plate appearances before exiting.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: First day off this season

Perez is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Astros.

It's the first day off this season for Perez, who played both legs of a doubleheader Thursday (one at catcher, one at designated hitter). Freddy Fermin will catch and bat eighth for the Royals in Friday's series opener.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Five hits, four doubles Thursday

Perez went 5-for-8 with four doubles, four RBI and three runs scored in Thursday's doubleheader against the Rockies.

Perez powered the Royals' offense in Thursday's doubleheader sweep, opening the scoring in the matinee with a two-run double in the first inning before adding three hits and two more RBI in the nightcap. It's an encouraging effort from the 34-year-old Perez, who'd gone just 2-for-20 in five games coming into Thursday. He's now slashing .220/.271/.360 with two homers, 14 RBI and eight runs scored through 108 plate appearances this season.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Hits second homer

Perez went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 4-2 victory over the Guardians.

Perez has had a slow start to the season, as he's hitting .213 with two home runs and a .606 OPS in 16 games. He has a four-game hitting streak, so perhaps this home run will get him going at the plate.
