Yelich is starting in left field and batting third in Wednesday's Cactus League game versus the White Sox, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. It will be the first action in left field this spring for Yelich, who is slated to play four innings or so. The 33-year-old's first game this spring came at designated hitter, and while most of Yelich's starts this season could be at DH, the Brewers want him to be ready to play the outfield, as well. Yelich is coming off surgery last August to address a herniated disc in his lower back.... See More ... See Less

Brewers' Christian Yelich: Making spring debut Saturday
Yelich (back) will serve as the DH and bat second in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Rangers. Saturday marks Yelich's first time playing in a game setting since he underwent surgery in August to address a herniated disc in his lower back. It's unclear how far away he is from returning to the field, though he'll likely be used primarily as a DH once the regular season begins anyway.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Spring debut in early March
Yelich (back) took batting practice on the field Monday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Yelich is behind other Brewers position players in camp following a microdiscectomy procedure in August to address a herniated disc in his lower back. However, his rehab is coming along well and he is expected to be ready for Cactus League games in early March. Barring a setback, Yelich should be ready to go by Opening Day.... See More ... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Confident in Opening Day return
Yelich (back) said Saturday that "there's no reason to think he won't be ready for Opening Day," Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Yelich still isn't quite at 100 percent after undergoing a microdiscectomy procedure in August to address a herniated disc in his lower back, but he noted Saturday that he's on schedule in his rehab. He likely won't be ready for game action once the Cactus League schedule begins, but he should be able to get into a few games later this spring, at which point we'll have a better idea of how his oft-injured back is holding up.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Opening Day not a given
Yelich (back) "has a chance" to be ready for Opening Day, but "it isn't a lock," Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Yelich underwent a microdiscectomy procedure in August to address a herniated disc in his lower back and will not be 100 percent at the beginning of spring training. His rehab has gone well to this point, but the big test will come when he ramps things up in workouts and games this spring. If Yelich does need a little time on the injured list to start the season, it could open up more playing time for Blake Perkins, Jake Bauers, Tyler Black and Isaac Collins, among others.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Likely limited at start of camp
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said recently that he doesn't expect Yelich (back) to be 100 percent at the start of spring training, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Yelich underwent a microdiscectomy procedure in August to address a herniated disc in his lower back. His recovery has come along well and there doesn't seem to be any concern about his availability for Opening Day, but he will be brought along slowly in camp. Yelich was terrific last season before being shut down, slashing .315/.406/.504 with 11 home runs and 21 stolen bases over 73 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Expected for start of spring
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said Monday that Yelich (back) isn't swinging a bat yet but is doing other baseball movements, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Arnold added that Yelich is "in a really good spot right now" and should be ready to go early on in spring training. Yelich underwent a season-ending microdiscectomy procedure Aug. 16 to address a herniated disc in his lower back, an injury which has plagued the outfielder for years.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Moved to 60-day IL
The Brewers transferred Yelich (back) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday. Yelich underwent a season-ending microdiscectomy procedure Aug. 16 to address a herniated disc in his lower back, so his move to the 60-day IL is merely procedural. He is expected to need three months of recovery and should be fully healthy for the start of spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Out three months after back surgery
Yelich is expected to need three months of recovery time following a microdiscectomy, Jack Stern of Brewer Fanatic reports. A microdiscectomy is a spine surgery which removes part or all of a bulging or herniated disc in the lower back. It's an injury Yelich has dealt with off and on for several years, and the hope is that he'll be able to put his back issues behind him after this. He is expected to be ready to roll for the start of spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Surgery wouldn't jeopardize 2025
Yelich said Wednesday that it's "not 100 percent" decided that he will undergo offseason back surgery, and if he does, he doesn't believe his availability for the start of the 2025 season would be in jeopardy, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Yelich was placed on the 10-day injured list a week ago with a lower-back issue that's nagged at him off and on over the last few years. The decision was made to rest and rehab the injury for now, and Yelich has been receiving regular treatment. A timetable for his return from the IL isn't yet clear.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Plans to rest and rehab back injury
Yelich has elected Thursday to rest and rehab his back injury, delaying a potential surgery until the offseason, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Rosenthal says offseason surgery for Yelich is viewed as a "strong possibility," but the three-time All-Star will put off the operation for now as he works to return to the field for the Brewers down the stretch. Yelich aggravated the recurring back injury Tuesday and landed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. It's not clear yet how long he might be sidelined.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Could need season-ending surgery
Yelich (back) will see a spine specialist Thursday to discuss the next steps in his recovery, with season-ending surgery representing one possibility, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Yelich's on-again, off-again back injury flared up Tuesday, and he was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Season-ending surgery would be a worst-case scenario, and it's unclear at this point what the likelihood of an operation would be, but the fact that it's even on the table is concerning. At the very least, Yelich should be expected to spend more than the minimum 10 days on the shelf.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Lands on IL with back inflammation
The Brewers placed Yelich on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with low-back inflammation. Yelich was removed from Tuesday's win over the Cubs when his back flared up on him. It's been a nagging issue for Yelich off and on for the last few years, and he will visit with a specialist the coming days, per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Yelich isn't sure how long he might be sidelined, but his tone Wednesday seemed ominous, as he discussed "a couple different discussions I think that need to be had." Gary Sanchez returned from the 10-day IL to take Yelich's roster spot and will be one of the candidates to fill in for him at designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Dealing with back tightness
Yelich was removed from Tuesday's game against the Cubs due to back tightness, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The 32-year-old outfielder had gone 0-for-1 with two walks before Rhys Hoskins pinch hit for him in the eighth inning. Back injuries have been a recurring issue for Yelich in recent seasons, and he spent nearly a month on the injured list earlier in the year due to a lower-back strain. The severity of his latest injury remains unknown, though manager Pat Murphy said after the game that Yelich may land on the IL again given his history.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Not in Sunday's lineup
Yelich is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. Yelich went 0-for-5 with a strikeout and an RBI during Saturday's 12-inning victory and will take a seat for the series finale in Minnesota. Jackson Chourio, Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick will start across the outfield Sunday for Milwaukee while William Contreras rests his legs as the designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Out of lineup Saturday
Yelich is not in the Brewers' starting lineup Saturday versus Washington. Yelich will sit for the first time since May 15 as Milwaukee goes up against rookie lefty Mitchell Parker. In Yelich's stead, William Contreras is taking on DH duties while Eric Haase starts behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Adds another steal Wednesday
Yelich went 2-for-3 with a walk, one stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 9-0 win over the Pirates. Yelich has a steal in consecutive games, and he's swiped six bags without getting caught over his last 13 contests. In that span, he's batting .408 (20-for-49) with an 8:6 BB:K. The outfielder hasn't seen his batting average dip below .300 since May 30, and he's now slashing .335/.417/.534 with 11 home runs, 21 steals, 41 RBI and 43 runs scored over 67 games this season.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Nabs steal Tuesday
Yelich went 1-for-2 with two walks and one stolen base in Tuesday's 12-2 loss to the Pirates. Yelich has gone 18-for-46 (.391) with five steals and eight extra-base hits over his last 12 contests. The outfielder is up to 20 thefts this season, the second year in a row and fifth campaign overall where he's reached that milestone. He's added a spectacular .331/.412/.532 slash line with 11 home runs, 41 RBI, 42 runs scored, 11 doubles and three triples across 66 games.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Ends power drought
Yelich went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Angels. Yelich opened the scoring with a first-inning homer, his first long ball since May 29. Power has been the only missing element for the veteran outfielder in June -- he's batting .322 (19-for-59) this month, but with just two extra-base hits and five RBI over 16 contests. For the year, Yelich is slashing .324/.400/.506 with seven homers, 32 RBI, 25 runs scored and 14 stolen bases over 200 plate appearances in what's shaping up to be his best campaign since 2019.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Drives in two, steals bag
Yelich went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's win over the Tigers. He got the scoring started in this one, driving in Brice Turang with a single in the first inning. Yelich came up with the bases loaded in the third and drove in another run on a sacrifice fly. He later added an infield single and a stolen base in the fifth. The former MVP has six multi-hit games over his last 15 games and his hitting .362 over that stretch. He has six homers, 29 RBI and 10 stolen bases through 38 games thus far.... See More ... See Less
