Yelich went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Angels. Yelich opened the scoring with a first-inning homer, his first long ball since May 29. Power has been the only missing element for the veteran outfielder in June -- he's batting .322 (19-for-59) this month, but with just two extra-base hits and five RBI over 16 contests. For the year, Yelich is slashing .324/.400/.506 with seven homers, 32 RBI, 25 runs scored and 14 stolen bases over 200 plate appearances in what's shaping up to be his best campaign since 2019.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Drives in two, steals bag
Yelich went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's win over the Tigers. He got the scoring started in this one, driving in Brice Turang with a single in the first inning. Yelich came up with the bases loaded in the third and drove in another run on a sacrifice fly. He later added an infield single and a stolen base in the fifth. The former MVP has six multi-hit games over his last 15 games and his hitting .362 over that stretch. He has six homers, 29 RBI and 10 stolen bases through 38 games thus far.... See More ... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Laces five hits, drives in five
Yelich went 5-for-6 with a stolen base, two doubles, five RBI and one run scored in Friday's win against the White Sox. Yelich collected his first five-hit game of 2024 and fifth of his career, achieving the feat for the first time since Aug. 17, 2019. The former MVP has been resurgent since returning from a back injury May 8, hitting .321 (25-for-78) with one homer, six stolen bases, 16 RBI and 14 runs scored. Overall, Yelich is slashing .325/.406/.564 in 134 plate appearances while anchoring a formidable first-place Brewers lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Ends power drought
Yelich went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 10-6 win over the Cubs. Yelich's last homer was was April 10. He dealt with a back injury that kept him out of the lineup for nearly a month, and his power was the last part of his game to return. The outfielder has gone 20-for-69 (.290) over 18 contests since he returned from the injured list, though he's logged just six extra-base hits in that span. For the season, Yelich is slashing .306/.390/.546 with six homers, 22 RBI, 19 runs scored, seven stolen bases, four doubles and two triples over 29 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Swipes two bags
Yelich went 0-for-3 with two walks, two steals and a run scored in Monday's loss to Miami. Yelich stole his fifth and sixth bases of the season in the sixth inning. First, the Brewers outfielder stole second before catching starter Ryan Weathers off guard on a throw back from his catcher, taking the opportunity to swipe home. Overall, Yelich is slashing .321/.398/.564 in 89 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Resting Wednesday
Yelich is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates. With a lefty (Martin Perez) on the hill for Pittsburgh and the Brewers and Pirates getting together for a day game after a night game, the lefty-hitting Yelich will hit the bench in the series finale. Yelich's absence clears a spot in the outfield for Blake Perkins, who returns to the lineup after playing off the bench for the past two games.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Three hits in win
Yelich went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Cardinals. The outfielder singled in his first at-bat before coming home on a Rhys Hoskins home run as the Brewers took an early 3-0 lead. Yelich would then add an RBI triple in the fifth to extend Milwaukee's lead, and he finished the game with three hits for only the second time this season. He went hitless in his first game back from the injured list but he's hit safely in 11 of 12 games for the season. He's also driven in at least one run in four of his last six contests.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Activated, starting Wednesday
The Brewers reinstated Yelich (back) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll serve as the Brewers' designated hitter and will bat third in the team's series finale in Kansas City. Milwaukee optioned infielder Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Yelich, who had been on the shelf since April 16 with a lower-back strain. Despite missing well beyond the minimum 10 days, Yelich will return to the lineup without having gone on a minor-league rehab assignment, as the Brewers were encouraged enough with how his back responded to baseball activities over the past few days to activate him. He'll be eased back into action in a non-defensive role, and Yelich could end up seeing more work at DH over the next week or two before gradually settling into his usual spot in left field.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Hits on field Monday
Yelich (back) did some hitting on the field Monday, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. It's the first time Yelich has hit on the field since he went on the injured list three weeks ago with a lower-back strain. Brewers manager Pat Murphy had indicated previously that it would likely be the final step before Yelich returns to action, although it's not clear whether he might need to go out on a rehab assignment first. The 32-year-old was off to a .333/.422/.744 start with five home runs in 11 contests before getting hurt.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Starts up hitting program
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Sunday that Yelich (back) has resumed swinging the bat in addition to running and throwing, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The 32-year-old seemingly had a breakthrough in his recovery from a low back strain this weekend, when he had his best session in the batting cage since landing on the shelf, according to MLB.com. Yelich said that he's targeting a return to action before the Brewers' road trip wraps up Wednesday in Kansas City, but don't be surprised if the team takes a more conservative approach and gives him more time to heal up from the back injury before activating him from the 10-day injured list.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Throws from 120 feet
Yelich (back) played catch from 120 feet Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Yelich's recovery from a lower-back strain has come along more slowly than anticipated, but he's finally beginning to ramp things up. It's been two-and-a-half weeks since he last played for the Brewers and there remains no timetable for his return to the 26-man active roster.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Resumes on-field work
Yelich (back) was spotted running on the field prior to Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Pirates, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. While Yelich's ability to take part in some form of on-field activity is a positive sign as he works his way back from a lower-back strain, he has yet to resume swinging a bat or playing catch since landing on the 10-day injured list on April 16. The Brewers haven't set a firm target date for Yelich's return to the lineup, but at the very least, he doesn't look as though he'll be ready to come off the IL when first eligible this weekend.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Lands on injured list
The Brewers placed Yelich on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a lower-back strain. Yelich's move to the IL is retroactive to Saturday, so he will be eligible to return beginning next Tuesday. It's unclear whether or not the 32-year-old outfielder will be ready to return by then, but his condition has improved since sustaining the injury during Friday's game against Baltimore. While he's out, Blake Perkins will likely continue seeing regular playing time in the outfield, and the Brewers will promote Owen Miller from Triple-A Nashville to add to their depth.... See More ... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Absence continues Tuesday
Yelich (back) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres. The 32-year-old hasn't seen the field since Friday, and he'll sit for the fourth straight game as he continues to deal with the back injury. According to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Brewers considered Tuesday a deadline for a potential IL move for Yelich, but it remains to be seen if he's shifted to the shelf.... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Held out again Monday
Yelich (back) remains out of the lineup for Monday's game versus the Padres. Brewers manager Pat Murphy said pregame that Yelich is "about the same" in regard to his progress from a back injury, although the club is hopeful some medication the outfielder is taking will help, per Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. A decision as to whether Yelich will be placed on the injured list will be made Tuesday. He hasn't played since Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Could land on IL
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Saturday that Yelich (back) won't play during the rest of Milwaukee's weekend series against Baltimore and may require a trip to the injured list, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Murphy added that a decision on Yelich will likely come before Monday's series opener against the Padres. If the 32-year-old outfielder's condition doesn't improve by then, he would likely move to the IL, opening the door for Blake Perkins to see regular reps in the outfield. Yelich has been scorching hot to begin the year, slashing .333/.422/.744 across 45 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Held out Saturday
Yelich (back) isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles. Yelich felt his back tighten up on him while running during Friday's win and was removed from the game in the second inning. The veteran outfielder has a history with back injuries, so it's not too surprising to see Milwaukee rest him to avoid making the issue worse. Sal Frelick will shift to left field in Yelich's place, allowing Blake Perkins to start in center field and bat ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Removed early Friday
Yelich was removed from Friday's game against the Orioles early due to lower-back discomfort, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. It's not immediately apparent how serious Yelich's injury is, but the decision to remove him may be precautionary, as he has dealt with back issues in the past. The veteran outfielder singled during his lone at-bat Friday during the top of first inning and was replaced on defense by Blake Perkins before the bottom half of the second.... See More ... Brewers' Christian Yelich: Tacks on three RBI
Yelich went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a walk in Tuesday's victory over the Reds. All of Yelich's RBI over his first eight games came via the home run, but he racked up three of them Tuesday without the aid of the long ball. Yelich continues to swing it well early, and he sits sixth in the league among qualified players with a 1.116 OPS.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Tallies three hits Friday
Yelich went 3-for-4 with a solo home run during Friday's 3-1 victory over the Mets. After batting .303 across 11 spring training games, Yelich's bat stayed hot to begin the new campaign. He registered a base hit in each of his first three at-bats, including a solo shot off Jose Quintana in the top of the fourth inning, before striking out in his final plate appearance. The 2018 NL MVP will likely bat third in Milwaukee's lineup more often than not this season after spending the past few years as the Brewers' leadoff man, which could bode well for his RBI total....
