  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Resumes hitting

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that LeMahieu has resumed hitting and is "moving the needle" in his progress from a left calf strain, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

LeMahieu is a little more than two weeks removed from suffering the injury and has begun the process of easing back into baseball activities. He doesn't appear to be particularly close to being ready for game action, however, so LeMahieu remains without a clear timeline for making his 2025 debut. Oswaldo Cabrera is expected to open the season as the Yankees' primary third baseman.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: MRI shows calf strain

LeMahieu underwent an MRI on Wednesday which showed a strain in his left calf, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

LeMahieu said that he will be shut down from baseball activities for at least a couple of weeks after he strained his calf in a Grapefruit League game last weekend. A return timetable is still up in the air since LeMahieu hasn't yet talked about the results of the MRI with the team doctor, but Opening Day is off the table at this point. Oswaldo Cabrera appears to be next in line for regular starts at the hot corner.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Scheduled for MRI

LeMahieu is slated to undergo an MRI on his sore calf Tuesday, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

The extent of LeMahieu's calf injury won't be known until the results of the MRI are read, though the veteran infielder expressed some optimism that he's dealing with a low-grade strain rather than a more significant issue. In any case, LeMahieu's return to the Grapefruit League lineup doesn't seem to be imminent, and he could be at risk of opening the season on the injured list. A potential LeMahieu absence to begin the campaign could open up more opportunities at third base for Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Could miss time

LeMahieu (calf) said Sunday that his injury isn't serious, but he'll likely be out for "a little bit," Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

The veteran infielder suffered the injury during Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, and he now appears set to be sidelined for at least part of camp. LeMahieu labored through foot and hip injuries while posting a career-worst .528 OPS in 67 games during the regular season in 2024 before going unused throughout the playoffs during the Yankees' run to the World Series. Even though he entered camp as the frontrunner for the top job at third base, LeMahieu is off to an ominous start in 2025.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Suffers calf injury

LeMahieu tweaked his calf during his second at-bat in Saturday's Grapefruit League game versus the Astros, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Manager Aaron Boone described the situation as "at least a little concerning." LeMahieu can be considered day-to-day for the time being, though a better idea of his status will come once he goes in for imaging. If the veteran infielder ends up having to miss time, Oswaldo Cabrera would be the most likely option to start at third base.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Grapefruit debut coming soon

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that LeMahieu is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut either Saturday or Monday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

LeMahieu entered camp healthy after missing significant time last season due to foot and hip injuries, but he's been held out of spring games thus far as the Yankees limit his workload. The veteran infielder is the perceived favorite to handle the bulk of the third-base reps for the Yankees in 2025, but with a .698 OPS since the start of the 2021 campaign, he'll have to impress during the spring to win the gig.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Extended rest over winter

LeMahieu said Tuesday that he took two months off from hitting over the offseason in order to give his body and mind a "reset" following a difficult 2024 campaign, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

LeMahieu was limited to just 67 regular-season contests in 2024, as he first battled a fractured foot and later a hip injury that ended his season in September. The 36-year-old is healthy now and has been working with the Yankees' training staff in order to keep it that way for the duration of the 2025 season. LeMahieu is competing for the third-base job and might be the favorite to win it, but with just a .698 OPS over the last four seasons, nothing will be handed to him.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Entering camp healthy

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that LeMahieu is healthy entering spring training, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

The 36-year-old finished last season on the injured list due to a hip impingement, which sidelined him for the final weeks of the regular season and for the entirety of the Yankees' run to the World Series. LeMahieu was limited to 67 regular-season games in 2024 and has battled a plethora of injuries the past few seasons, culminating in a career-worst .528 OPS in 2024. It appears he'll get the chance to be a major contributor at third base this season, but he may need a strong showing in spring training in order to secure the starting role.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Might be favorite to start at 3B

LeMahieu could be the current favorite to start at third base for the Yankees, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Sherman said Monday on the Pinstripe Post podcast that he believes the Yankees are "going to try to take another look at LeMahieu" and that LeMahieu's likeliest position is third base. Jazz Chisholm ended the 2024 season at the hot corner for the Yanks, but the club seems to prefer him at second base. It could all be a moot point if the team winds up acquiring a player at either of those positions, but for now, LeMahieu looks to be in line to handle the hot corner. The 36-year-old had just a .527 OPS over 67 games during an injury-shortened 2024 campaign.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Aiming to be available for ALDS

LeMahieu (hip) expects to ramp up baseball activities over the next few days as he aims to be available for the ALDS, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

LeMahieu isn't a given to be included on the Yankees' ALDS roster next week even if he's deemed healthy, but he at least wants to put himself in position to be an option. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since early September with a right hip impingement.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Resumes baseball activities

LeMahieu (hip) has been doing some baseball activities, including hitting off a tee, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

LeMahieu landed on the injured list Sept. 9 due to a right hip impingement. The veteran infielder hasn't been ruled out from returning before the end of the regular season, though it's unclear how close he may be to being ready to play in games. LeMahieu will likely take on a bench role if he's able to play again this season, as the Yankees are set across the infield and have Giancarlo Stanton locked in as the everyday DH.
