McNeill sustained a torn ACL in his right knee during Sunday's 48-42 loss to the Bills and will require season-ending surgery, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
An already decimated Detroit defense suffered more personnel losses coming out of the Week 15 loss, as McNeil and cornerbacks Carlton Davis (Jaw) and Khalil Dorsey (ankle) all emerged from the contest with season-ending injuries. McNeill, a valued run stuffer who signed a four-year, $97 million contract extension in October, will finish the campaign with 25 tackles, 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble over 14 appearances. Levi Onwuzurike is likely to move into a starting role at defensive tackle next to DJ Reader in place of McNeill, whose recovery from knee surgery could extend into the start of the 2025 season.
