The Pirates activated Holderman (knee) from the 15-day injured list Saturday, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Holderman landed on the 15-day IL due to a right knee sprain, but he's fully recovered after two rehab outings. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out one over 1.2 innings in the minors, and he'll look to improve on his 9.64 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in the majors upon his return to the Pirates' bullpen. To make room on the 26-man roster for Holderman, the Pirates optioned Mike Burrows to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Colin Holderman: Making rehab outing Saturday
Holderman (knee) will start his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports. Holderman was placed on the 15-day injured list April 6 due to a right knee sprain. He was able to progress enough in his recovery to throw live batting practice, and he'll take the next step in his program by embarking on a rehab assignment. Holderman posted a 9.64 ERA and 2.14 WHIP across 4.2 innings before going on the IL.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Nearing rehab assignment
Holderman (knee) has progressed to throwing live batting practice and is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon, MLB.com reports. Holderman has been on the injured list since April 6 but has made progress toward a return. He struggled in high-leverage spots to begin the season by allowing at least one earned run in four of his five appearances before the injury. However, with the Pirates' bullpen still in flux, Holderman could mix in for saves if his performance stabilizes.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Hits IL with sprained knee
The Pirates placed Holderman on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right knee sprain, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Pittsburgh recalled right-hander Chase Shugart from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Holderman in the bullpen. After the Pirates surprisingly optioned David Bednar to Triple-A on Tuesday, Holderman looked like a candidate to factor into the mix for saves, but his knee injury likely leaves Dennis Santana as the top choice for any closing situations that emerge in the short term. Holderman had struggled through his first five appearances before getting injured, yielding five earned runs on six hits and four walks over 4.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Avoids arbitration
Holderman signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Pirates on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Despite missing several weeks in August with a wrist injury, 2024 marked the best season of Holderman's three-year career. He finished the year with a 3.16 ERA and 1.31 WHIP alongside a 56:25 K:BB over 51.1 innings and is likely to reprise his role as a setup man in 2025.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Makes return from IL
The Pirates reinstated Holderman (wrist) from the 15-day injured list Sunday. With the active roster expanding from 26 to 28 men Sunday, the Pirates will bring aboard two relievers in Holderman and Ryan Borucki (wrist), both of whom were activated from the IL. Holderman had been on the shelf since Aug. 8 with a sprained wrist but looks to be good to go after tossing an inning for Triple-A Indianapolis in each of his five rehab appearances.... See More ... Pirates' Colin Holderman: Dominant run ends
Holderman (1-3) allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one across one inning to take the loss Sunday against the Rays. Holderman entered the game in the eighth inning with the score knotted at 1-1 and allowed four of the first five batters he faced to reach base to account for the damage. This was the first time he has allowed an earned run in 10 appearances for the month, and he still has a 1.30 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 27.2 innings on the season. Aroldis Chapman figures to be the primary closer while David Bednar (oblique) is sidelined, but Holderman could also pick up some save chances as arguably Pittsburgh's best remaining high-leverage reliever.... Pirates' Colin Holderman: Makes season debut
Holderman allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit across two-thirds of an inning Thursday against the Phillies. Holderman was sidelined with an illness for a significant part of spring training, so he began on the season injured list to build up his workload. He was activated Thursday and entered the game in the seventh inning, only to serve up a two-run home run to the second batter he faced. Holderman will likely pitch in high-leverage spots, though he'll be behind both David Bednar and Aroldis Chapman for save opportunities.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Could be back Thursday
Holderman (illness) could be activated from the injured list Thursday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Holderman rejoined the Pirates at PNC Park on Tuesday as a member of the taxi squad and appears slated for activation when the team heads out on its road trip. The setup man has gotten off to a late start this season because of an illness.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Begins rehab assignment
The Pirates sent Holderman (illness) to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday to begin a rehab assignment. A lengthy battle with a virus kept Holderman out of action for a significant amount of time during spring training, so he will head to Indianapolis in order to properly prepare for his regular-season debut. The 28-year-old righty will be eligible to return from the IL on April 9.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Hits shelf Thursday
The Pirates placed Holderman (illness) on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Holderman was set back in spring training by a bout with a virus, but he's expected to throw a live batting practice session this week and should soon head to Triple-A Indianapolis to begin a rehab assignment. The right-hander proved to be one of Pittsburgh's more reliable relievers in his first full season in the organization in 2023, compiling a 3.86 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 58:20 K:BB in 56 innings.... Pirates' Colin Holderman: Exits outing early
Holderman exited his appearance in Saturday's contest versus the Twins with cramping in his right arm, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Holderman entered the game in the seventh inning, allowing one run on two hits and walk while striking out a batter before exiting. Considering it's his throwing arm, more information on Holderman's status will likely be provided following the contest.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Reinstated from IL
Holderman (wrist) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday. Holderman will make his return to the big-league bullpen after missing the minimum 15 days with right wrist inflammation. The right-hander has produced a 4.01 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with 28 strikeouts while recording 12 holds and a save over 24.2 innings in 26 appearances with Pittsburgh in 2023. Cody Bolton was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Expected back Friday
Holderman (wrist) is expected to be activated off the injured list Friday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. If that is indeed the case, it will be just a minimum 15-day IL stint for Holderman to heal from a bout of right wrist inflammation. The 27-year-old has posted a 4.01 ERA and 28:7 K:BB in 24.2 innings this season out of the Pirates' bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Placed on injured list
Holderman (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Holderman exited Wednesday's appearance against Atlanta due to right shoulder soreness and will be unavailable for at least the next two weeks. A timetable for his return isn't yet clear, but Yohan Ramirez was recalled Friday to provide additional bullpen depth.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Day-to-day with shoulder issue
Holderman was diagnosed with right shoulder discomfort following his appearance in Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports. The injury likely explains why Holderman was woefully ineffective Wednesday, as he failed to record an out and was charged with five earned runs on three hits and a walk. The Pirates are labeling Holderman as day-to-day, but a trip to the injured list could be in the forecast if he doesn't show significant improvement heading into the weekend.... See More ... Pirates' Colin Holderman: Heads back to big leagues
The Pirates recalled Holderman from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Holderman will be moving up to Pittsburgh after the team had an opening on its 26-man active roster and in its bullpen following Monday's trade that sent Chris Stratton to St. Louis. Since being acquired from the Mets on July 22, Holderman has pitched exclusively for the Pirates' Triple-A club.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Colin Holderman: Dealt to Pirates
Holderman was traded to the Pirates in exchange for Daniel Vogelbach on Friday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Holderman will head to Pittsburgh after producing a 2.04 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 18 punchouts over 17.2 innings in 15 appearances with the Mets this season. He'll likely fill a middle relief role with the Pirates, but the rookie could slip into a high-leverage spot if the Bucs trade some veteran relievers at the deadline.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Colin Holderman: Activated and optioned
The Mets reinstated Holderman (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. New York saw enough from Holderman during his one-inning rehab appearance Sunday with Syracuse to deduce that he was healthy, but the big club apparently doesn't have a spot available in the bullpen for the right-hander at the moment. After providing a 3.18 ERA while striking out 14 over 11.1 innings for New York prior to landing on the IL on June 11, Holderman should be first in line for a call-up if the Mets require an extra relief arm at any point.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Colin Holderman: Eyeing minimum-length stay
Holderman (shoulder) said Tuesday that he expects to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible June 24 or shortly thereafter, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Holderman said he plans on resuming a throwing program in a few days after a recent MRI confirmed that he's dealing with a minor impingement of his right shoulder rather than a longer-term injury. Before landing on the IL, Holderman had emerged as a key piece out of the bullpen, accruing three wins while generating a 3.18 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB across 11.1 innings.... See More ...
