Borucki blew a save in Sunday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Yankees, recording two outs while allowing three runs on three hits and one walk with one strikeout. Called upon to protect a 4-1 lead in the ninth inning, Borucki allowed three runs with two outs and was lifted after totaling 26 pitches. While Dennis Santana nabbed the Pirates' most recent save opportunity, he was deployed in the eighth inning against the top of the Yankees' order. Borucki holds a 7.20 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB through five innings, and the Pittsburgh bullpen looks like a situation to avoid for the time being.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Added to roster
The Pirates selected Borucki's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Borucki earned a spot in the Pirates' Opening Day bullpen after turning in a 1.04 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 8.2 Grapefruit League innings. He'll provide middle relief from the left side.... Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Makes Opening Day roster
The Pirates informed Borucki on Monday that he'll be included on the Opening Day roster, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Borucki is in camp on a minor-league contract but pitched his way onto the team by holding a 1.04 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 8.2 Grapefruit League innings. He'll give manager Derek Shelton another lefty option in the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Inks minor-league deal with Pirates
Borucki and the Pirates agreed on a minor-league contract Monday, which includes an invitation to major-league spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Borucki spent the 2024 season as a member of the Pirates organization, producing an inflated 7.36 ERA and 1.64 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 11 innings in 14 appearances with Pittsburgh. Additionally, he compiled a 4.76 ERA with 21 punchouts over 11.1 innings in 12 appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis. The left-hander will get a shot to prove himself with the big-league club at spring training and if he is able to crack the team's 26-man roster, he'd earn a base salary of $1.15 million in 2025.... Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Returns from IL
The Pirates reinstated Borucki (wrist) from the 60-day injured list Sunday. Borucki is active for the big club for the first time since early April. He was initially placed on the IL with triceps inflammation before he was later diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in his wrist. He began a rehab assignment in late June, only to be pulled off of it shortly before the 30-day window ended when he experienced a setback. Borucki resumed the minor-league assignment Aug. 17 and looked sharp during his latest stint at Triple-A Indianapolis, covering five innings and allowing one earned run on one hit and two walks while striking out eight. Given his long layoff, Borucki is likely to be eased back into the Pittsburgh bullpen in lower-leverage situations initially.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Activation imminent
Borucki (wrist) joined the Pirates in Cleveland on Saturday and could be activated from the 60-day injured list Sunday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Borucki has been dealing with carpal tunnel syndrome in his left wrist since early April. He began his rehab assignment Aug. 17 and has given up a run while striking out eight in five innings across five appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Beginning rehab assignment Saturday
Borucki (wrist) will start his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday. Borucki, who has been on the injured list since early April due to carpal tunnel syndrome in his left wrist, was shut down from his throwing program at the beginning of August after suffering a setback. He appears to have recovered enough to return to a live setting, and the hope for the 30-year-old is that he'll be available out of Pittsburgh's bullpen for the tail end of the regular season.... Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Shut down from throwing
Borucki (wrist) will not throw for the next 3-to-5 days, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Borucki was pulled off his rehab assignment last Friday after suffering a setback in his recovery from carpal tunnel syndrome, and it will be another several days before he's able to resume his throwing program. It's unclear how far away he is from pitching in rehab games again, but the Pirates are still optimistic he'll return to the club sometime in September.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Pulled off rehab assignment
Borucki (wrist) had his rehab assignment paused Friday and he's currently being re-assessed, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Borucki has made 10 rehab appearances, yielding seven runs across 9.2 innings. However, he may have suffered a setback in his recovery from carpal tunnel syndrome. A timeline for Borucki to return to Triple-A Indianapolis could become clear after his re-evaluation.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Beginning assignment Tuesday
Borucki (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Borucki graduated to facing live hitters over the weekend and will now head to the minor leagues after experiencing no issues following his latest session of live BP. The 30-year-old southpaw has been on the injured list since early April and is aiming to return to Pittsburgh's bullpen ahead of the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Set for live batting practice
Borucki (wrist) is set to throw live batting practice Friday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Borucki has thrown three bullpen sessions, the most recent of which was 30 pitches Monday. Assuming Friday goes according to plan, Borucki is expected to begin a rehab assignment and could return prior to the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Rehab picking up
Borucki (wrist) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, MLB.com reports. The session marked Borucki's first time throwing off a slope since he landed on the injured list in early April. He has additional bullpens set for Saturday and Tuesday, after which he may be ready to begin a rehab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Shifts to 60-day IL
The Pirates transferred Borucki (wrist) to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. The 30-year-old southpaw will give up his 40-man roster spot for Justin Bruihl, who signed with the Pirates on Thursday. Borucki's move to the 60-day IL won't affect the duration of his stint on the injured list, which began in early April, and he remains without a return timeline since being diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in May.... Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Dealing with carpal tunnel syndrome
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Borucki (wrist) will be shut down for several weeks after being diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Borucki initially went on the injured list in early April with what was called left triceps inflammation at the time. He had a setback last month when he tried to throw and now has a new diagnosis. With an open-ended timetable, Borucki is a candidate to move to the 60-day injured list when/if the Pirates need to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Lands on injured list
Borucki was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with left triceps inflammation, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The left-hander presumably picked up the injury during his last outing Friday versus Baltimore, when he allowed two runs on three hits over one-third of an inning. Borucki doesn't have an official timeline for his return but will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Reaches agreement with Pittsburgh
Borucki signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Pirates on Friday to avoid arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Borucki gets a well-deserved raise after delivering a 2.45 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 33:4 K:BB over 40.1 innings with Pittsburgh in 2023. He projects to operate in a setup role in 2024.... See More ... Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Called up from Indianapolis
Borucki's contract was selected from Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates on Sunday. Borucki will take the roster spot of Jose Hernandez after Hernandez was placed on the injured list with a calf strain. Signed to a minor-league contract by the Pirates in May after electing free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment from the Cubs, Borucki will be a middle-innings option for the Bucs while he's on the major-league roster.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Inks minors deal with Pittsburgh
Borucki signed a minor-league contract Tuesday with the Pirates. Borucki elected to become a free agent after getting pushed off the Cubs' 40-man roster earlier this month. He did not get into a major-league game during his short time with Chicago and will presumably be stationed at the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis. The 29-year-old lefty reliever struggled to a 5.68 ERA in 25.1 big-league innings last season between Toronto and Seattle.... See More ... See Less -
Ryan Borucki: Heads to open market
Borucki elected free agency after being outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Rather than sticking around in the Cubs organization with the club's top minor-league affiliate, the lefty reliever will hit the open market with the hope of finding a landing spot that can present him with a clearer path back to the majors. Prior to being outrighted off the 40-man roster, Borucki logged a 12.00 ERA and 2.11 WHIP over his nine innings at Iowa.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Ryan Borucki: Outrighted to Triple-A
Borucki cleared waivers and was outrighted Friday to Triple-A Iowa, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Borucki can either accept the assignment to Triple-A or elect to become a free agent.
