Draft Scouting Report
Kyle Monangai is a compact, thickly-built running back with an urgent running style and impressive lower body flexibility. He can quickly change direction with short, explosive bursts, particularly when hitting cutbacks. While he runs with the ball high and tight, he could benefit from lowering his pad level more consistently to reduce vulnerability to big hits. He often stops his momentum to make defenders miss or cut back, but this approach may not be as effective in the NFL with faster defenders.
Monangai shows solid vision, quickly processing new running lanes, and has a natural feel for elusiveness. His agility and wiggle in tight spaces are clear strengths, allowing him to slip past tacklers and pick up extra yards. When he sees a clear path, he transitions to a north-south running style with authority, often powering through contact to gain additional yardage.
Though effective at making defenders miss behind the line, Monangai lacks explosive speed through the second level and in the open field. With minimal receiving experience in college, he’ll need development as a pass-catcher.
Monangai’s skill set combines toughness, agility and the ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces. While he has areas to refine, particularly with pad level and speed, he brings potential as a physical, versatile back who runs hard on every touch.
