Draft Scouting Report

Rating: 73.50 (Roster depth)
Pro Comparison: Jarvis Landry
Summary

Xavier Restrepo went from local high-school legend to Miami's all-time career leader in receptions and receiving yards. He's also the only Hurricane receiver in school history with multiple 1,000-yard seasons. Short but stocky and blessed with vacuum hands, Restrepo dominated primarily as a slot receiver who won with well-refined footwork, good quickness and long speed, and a legit knack for exploiting zone coverage while having outrageous chemistry with Heisman candidate Cam Ward. He won't win many races in the NFL and could struggle at first with physical coverage from pro defensive backs, but Restrepo has a lot of traits that can help him help a team.

About
  • Career: Consensus All-American (2024) and two-time first-team All-SEC (2023-24)
  • Past two seasons: 154 receptions, 2,219 receiving yards and 17 receiving touchdowns in 25 games
Strengths
  • Very good route runner: Already well-refined and nuanced, Restrepo used a variety of speeds and moves to help him get open. He also had the keen awareness and know-how to capitalize on open spaces against zone coverage.
  • Good quickness: Got a step on pretty much everybody out of his breaks and off the snap.
  • Excellent hands: Just six drops over the past two years (214 targets), good for a svelte 2.8% drop rate. Adjusted to off-target throws regularly. Was Cam Ward's target on gotta-have-it plays
Weaknesses
  • More finesse than physical: Restrepo struggled a little with the press and man-to-man coverage, and he very rarely added yards after contact (credited with one reception with 20-plus yards after first contact over the past two seasons). Toughness wasn't an issue at all, but even his blocking, which is inherently physical, was inconsistent.
  • Fast, but will get caught from behind: Restrepo was competitively fast, but needed a few extra steps to accelerate to his top speed, which is good but not blazing. Speed was not one of his ways of dominating.
  • Undersized: He has a thick upper body, but Restrepo is short with a less-than-ideal wingspan. That narrows his catch radius and may force him into a slot-heavy role for the entirety of his career.
Combine Data
  • Bench press: 17 reps
