Draft Scouting Report
Danny Stutsman is a large, well-proportioned off-ball linebacker with smooth acceleration and a natural ability to track the football. His combination of size, length and light feet makes him an impactful presence, particularly between the tackles, where he uses his quick key-reading and reaction skills to shed blocks and disrupt plays. While he excels at defeating blocks from interior offensive linemen in tight spaces, he’s less effective disengaging in open space, which is understandable given his frame.
As a run defender, Stutsman’s range and tackling radius are notable strengths, though it takes him a split second to reach full speed. He’s a reliable tackler who rarely misses but could improve his ability to avoid blocks rather than relying heavily on stack-and-shed techniques. In coverage, he shows fluidity in zone drops and solid awareness, though he’s less assertive moving backward and lacks standout ball skills despite occasional flashes.
Stutsman’s contributions as a blitzer are ordinary and don’t fully capitalize on his physical tools, which is a slight disappointment given his size and athletic profile. He’s best described as a throwback-style linebacker with above-average traits and significant upside. If he continues to refine his skills, Stutsman has the potential to develop into a versatile three-down defender at the next level.
