New Mexico vs. Utah State updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Friday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the New Mexico vs. Utah State football game
The New Mexico Lobos have been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with the Utah State Aggies and are hoping to record their first win since Nov. 12 of 2016. New Mexico and Utah State will face off in a Mountain West battle at 1 p.m. ET on Friday at Dreamstyle Stadium. Both of these teams will be looking for a pick-me-up after considerable defeats in their previous games.
The Lobos took a serious blow against the Boise State Broncos this past Saturday, falling 37 to nothing. New Mexico was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 24 to nothing. One thing holding New Mexico back was the mediocre play of RB Aaron Dumas, who did not have his best game: he rushed for 36 yards on 15 carries.
Meanwhile, Utah State has to be hurting after a devastating 44-17 defeat at the hands of the Wyoming Cowboys this past Saturday. The Aggies were down 41-17 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. QB Logan Bonner put forth a good effort for the losing side as he passed for two TDs and 181 yards on 40 attempts in addition to picking up 46 yards on the ground.
The Lobos have to know they'll be fighting an uphill battle given the 15.50 point spread they are up against. Those betting on them against the spread shouldn't have high expectations for them since the squad is 1-6 ATS when expected to lose.
The losses put New Mexico at 3-8 and Utah State at a reciprocal 8-3. Two numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: New Mexico is stumbling into the matchup with the 234th fewest passing yards per game in the nation, having accrued only 116.4 on average. Utah State has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 176th worst in the nation in passing yards allowed per game, with 247.1 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
