Live scores, highlights and updates from the Nevada vs. New Mexico State football game
Game Recap
WR Melquan Stovall had a quiet outing against the Boise State Broncos last week, but he sure didn't disappoint on Saturday. QB Carson Strong passed for six TDs and 377 yards on 32 attempts as the Nevada Wolf Pack beat the New Mexico State Aggies 55-28. One of the most thrilling moments was Stovall's 65-yard TD reception in the second quarter.
The Wolf Pack took a little while to warm up, but they followed up a slow three-point first quarter with 28 points in the second. New Mexico State wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 31-7 heading into the break. Nevada put the contest away in the third quarter with 21 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
In addition to Strong, Nevada got help from Strong, who passed for six TDs and 377 yards on 32 attempts. Strong's 65-yard touchdown toss to Stovall in the second quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the night.
A silver lining for New Mexico State was the play of QB Jonah Johnson, who passed for three TDs and 425 yards on 62 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. The New Mexico State defense stepped up as well to lay out the quarterback four times.
The win bumped Nevada's record up to 4-1. The Aggies' overall record fell to 1-6.
New Mexico State and the Wolf Pack will both face the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in their upcoming games. Nevada will host Hawaii at 10:30 p.m. ET Oct. 16 at Clarence Mackay Stadium, and after that New Mexico State will head out to face them Oct. 24 at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex.
