2025 college basketball transfer portal: Live updates, entries, commitments, news powered by 247Sports
Live updates and analysis as the college basketball transfer portal opens amid March Madness action

The NCAA transfer portal cycle for the 2025 college basketball season opened March 24 and will close on Tuesday, April 22. As the transfer cycle begins, expect major movement across the sport. Top players are already being linked to the portal, and NIL remains a driving factor in player decisions. This could be the most talent-rich portal cycle yet -- and with more money in play than ever before, no player or program is off limits.
The 2025 cycle brings a few key changes. Most notably, the portal opens a week later than it did in 2024, no longer overlapping with the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. This shift means 75% of tournament teams will already be eliminated by the time players can officially enter.
Additionally, the transfer window has been shortened from 45 days to 30. The move is part of an effort to create more stability and predictability for college programs navigating roster management, recruiting and NIL negotiations. By closing the portal before the grassroots recruiting calendar kicks off in May, the NCAA hopes to reduce overlap and roster uncertainty.
